As we move towards Christmas together, ready to celebrate the birth of our Lord, we have joined with our parish community to pray, sing and reflect. At 6pm on Sunday, please click on the link above to spend time contemplating the miracle of Jesus’s birth. Our Year 6 children will lead prayers and Father Peter will lead the reflection.

There is not a day that does not go by where we don’t laugh in class - we are really having such a wonderful time learning and overcoming all of the challenges that we constantly face. I am really looking forward to celebrating this magical time with the class. We know that our Christmas preparations will be different this year - maybe it will give us more time to reflect its true meaning.

THIS WEEK WE ARE USING BOOK BASED LEARNING.
This week’s homework should be completed by next Thursday please. Many thanks.
Reading:
Read at home every day. You can quiz during school time when a book has been completed. Are you nearly at your target? Could you read a little bit more this week and try to reach it before next week?
Please remember that you should all be selecting books from the class library within your ZPD to read at home and at school. You may also choose to read extra books from home but these should be within your ZPD please.
(Parents: Don’t forget you can check on your child’s progress on Accelerated Reader - this will let you know which books they have read and quizzed on and also their progress towards their reading target.)
Maths:

“It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.”
Another exciting week of learning in Year 3.
This week we have had our Autumn Internet Safety Day. We have thought about how to stay safe on line and also about what we should do to report an incident if we are not happy with what has happened to us on line. The children made super posters and wonderful E-Safety Heroes. We have also been busy reading and looking at vocabulary in our English. We have been thinking about speech and what people have said. We have been spotting this and thinking about how they have said it too. (Keep spotting speech when you are reading—look out for the inverted commas “ …”) Again in PE we have been working together as a teams. Our challenges today included working together to make different letters of the alphabet and untangling ourselves as a group from the knot. Again the children had to work together like little Roger Robins, to solve the problems. In maths this week, we have continued with our adding and subtracting. We are getting so much faster at recalling number facts too. (Keep practising) In Science we have been thinking about different uses of electricity. (See the home learning for a bit extra on this).
Let’s Celebrate:
This week our certificates go to Tabby and Angel. Both children received Bobby Bee certificates for their enthusiasm in class. Angel you have been so much more enthusiastic and ready to learn this week. You have also been much more organised. Well done. Tabby, you are always so enthusiastic and ready to do your work. You are also a kind and considerate learning partner. Well done! I am also so proud of Ruby-Lilly who received Jacqui’s Marvellous Manners certificate this week. Well done Ruby-Lilly..
We are delighted that Stanley, Nicola, Evan, Tabby, Iris, Angel, Leo, Matilda, Max and Ruby-Lilly have achieved 100% of their reading target this week. Well done children. You have been so focused when it comes to your reading and you have worked really hard, reading lots of books. I know we have another big group of children who are almost reaching their target and with all the reading that I know they will do over the weekend and next week, I am sure that we will have lots more children to celebrate next week. Well done children—keep up the good work.
Things to Note:
·We have been talking in class council this week about what we would like to do to raise money for our chosen charity, Street Life, this Christmas time. The children have decided that they would like to do a Christmas Jumper Run. More details to follow next week.
Please can I remind you about the Home School Agreement form which I sent the link for with your child’s mid term report. If you have not yet completed this form please complete and submit it asap. We are still awaiting responses from a number of families. Many thanks.
It is good to see that children are wearing layers in class and keeping warm. Thank you.
·Please make sure that you look at the home learning page for this week’s home learning. This should be completed by next Thursday. This week’s learning is BOOK BASED. Many thanks..
Thank you for all your continued support and co-operation this throughout the term. Another successful week!

Owing to the current restrictions, r our Christmas celebrations and charity donations at nursery will have to be different this year. We have all been thinking really hard and discussing what we could do to help our chosen charity; Brian House Children’s Hospice.
Brian House the children’s unit specializes in respite, palliative, end of life care and bereavement support for children, young people and their families. Brian House, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, provides care and a ‘home from home’ environment for children and young adults from within the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas who have life threatening and/or life limiting conditions and meet the criteria for care.
Everyone has decided that on Tuesday 15th December KS1 and Foundation will be having a class ‘danceathon’. We are asking that all the children present that day to bring a £1 donation.
On Friday 11th December it will be Christmas hat day and once more we are asking for a £1 donation. All monies collected will be given to Brain House Hospice.
As in previous years we ask that you do not send Christmas cards into nursery but instead make the above donations to such a worthy cause.
With regards to our virtual Nativity (to be posted on our webpage on Wednesday 16th December); I have this week sent home an image consent form. It is important that you complete it and return to nursery as soon as possible. If I do not receive your permission I will be unable to post the video on our webpage.
Finally, our Christmas party will be held in our nursery bubble this year on Thursday 17th December 9.30 am -11.30 am.
I hope everyone manages to have a restful weekend, but just in case you have time on your hands click on the button below for a nature activity sheet.
See you on Monday!

The children have worked so hard this week and have really challenged their brilliant brains, especially in maths! On Tuesday we had Online Safety Day. We had lots of discussion about communicating online and the importance of always being kind. The children then sent emails to story book characters, such as The Big Bad Wolf and Goldilocks. It was lovely to see how these children communicated kindly even though they didn’t agree with the choices of these characters.

Well done Year 2 - it has been another successful week of learning in class. Tuesday was our first Online Safety Day in school. This day always provides time for us to just stop and think about how we use technology and how we can ensure that we are being safe whilst doing so. We focused on our digital footprint and discussed all of the different software, apps and games that we enjoy using both in school and home. The children found it interesting to learn that everything they access can leave a footprint behind which can often be found by others. Technology is such a wonderful tool for both enjoyment and learning, but it must be used safely and appropriately.

The staff and I are so blessed to be able to witness so many of those small things that occur in the dinner hall and on the playground that makes lunchtimes such a special time of day. The acts of kindness, selflessness and compassion that is shown and shared so many times between the children so effortlessly, fills our hearts with joy on a daily basis. and this week has been no exception.
The playground has rung out with laughter, as games have been played, jokes shared and friends simply being together. Unicorns and vets have visited us this week, alongside a cone shop and the mighty power rangers! Super heroes with an array of special talents have been busy saving the day, whilst races have been won and tennis matches played. There is never a dull moment to be had!
Mr Nay has continued to deliver varying activities for all the children to enjoy. It is so lovely to see them beaming with achievement and joy during his sessions, along with their rosy cheeks!

Reading
Thank you very much we have had most reading books in everyday this week and the children are getting into a great routine of putting them in their house colour box.
Please continue to read your books at home. Everyone should have a new set of word flashcards to practise with. If you do not have a set it is because the previous set wasn’t returned, please send them in next week and we can swap them over.
Maths
Practice counting orally to 20 from different numbers. For example, you say…8 they continue with…9,10,11,12,13…all the way to 20.

Christmas, a time of Charity.
Its been a wonderful week for Mrs Webster, with her mask firmly in place she has visited all the school councillors to discover how they have been enjoying their role so far and to hear any feedback from their classes.
What an interesting time it is in school this month as we have all been thinking of how we can continue our Christmas tradition of raising money for local charities ( who, as we all know are struggling right now.) We have had to be very creative as obviously with the current restrictions we can only raise money within our classes, but that hasn’t stopped us, we have had some wonderful ideas - from a Santa dash in Christmas jumpers, to chasing Father Christmas for a mile around the field. Miss Hornby is very excited to hear our final ideas in the next week. ( check your class web page for updates.)
“To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.” — Victor Hugo
Another exciting week in Year 4! On Thursday, lots of books arrived that the children had requested that they would love to read. As one child commented, “It’s book heaven!” Their excitement was so beautiful that I had to film it!
Another great success at the moment is our recorder lessons. Here is a little sample of our progress so far - very good I’m sure you would agree!
This week we had our Online Safety day where we discussed our digital footprint - the traces of ourselves that we leave online. We did lots of work around making sure we are safe online and only post or share photos, videos and/or comments which will not hurt or embarrass yourself or others. As usual, children produced some excellent work.
We have loved learning further about Anglo-Saxons this week and on Thursday, we had a mystery to solve - the mysery of the empty grave - an Anglo-Saxon burial site filled with all sorts of treasures found at Sutton Hoo- East Anglia. But who did the grave belong to? Children looked at the evidence and interpreted it to figure out the possible owner of such a grave - A Superior King - King Raedwald!
We have also begun our novel ‘Charlotte’s Web’ this week which children are already very in love with! They are such book lovers - I feel privileged to take them on their journey of books this year!
RHE focus
This week, we have thought about our gifts from God and how we can make the most of them. We have also reflected on God’s greatest gift - love and how we can show this to Him and others around us. In our class council we have been discussing how to raise money for our class charity, Streetlife. Children have come up with brilliant fundraising ideas and have decided what our Autumn fundraiser will be - see notices below.
Let’s celebrate!
This week we have a Bobby Bee certificate for Jayden who is growing so much in self-belief and enthusiasm. We are so proud of you!
We also have a Sadie Spider for Asher, who never ever gives up. In all he does he makes sure it is his very best and often adds that extra bit of detail.
Our recorder stars this week were Kai and Julia for super focus and effort.
Our PE stars were Jayden for excellent focus and Abi for really using her intelligence to strategise in the game.
Notices/Dates
Given the current situation that we are all in, the school have decided that this year fundraising will take place solely for different charities as they need our help now more than ever. Each class has been given a charity to raise money for in their own way. Year 4’s charity is ‘Streetlife,’ in Blackpool.
Christmas Arts and Crafts Day - Friday 4th December - Our first fundraiser in Year 4 will be a Christmas Arts and Crafts Day. On this day, children will be making Christmas decorations for our classroom and for home - all things Christmassy. They can wear a Christmas jumper on this day too if they want - with their own trousers, jeans or skirt - obviously weather appropriate! A donation of £1 (or any donation) would be kindly received, but this must be in the form of a £1 coin as we also want to limit the handling and counting out of money.
Christmas Danceathon Day - Tuesday 15th December - This much anticipated annual event will return with a slight twist this year. The children can come to school wearing their PE kits and we will dance the day away to Christmas music when Miss Hornby sounds those school bells. Unfortunately there will be no gathering on the school playground to dance as a school community but we will dance our socks off in class! Again, donations of £1 for this event in the single coin.
Christmas Party Day - Thursday 17th December - This year we will be enjoying those Christmas party games in our classrooms. On this day, children can come to school in their best party clothes. A small snack of a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps with a drink (no fizzy please) can also be brought into school to be enjoyed after the party. We will also be enjoying a Christmas dinner for lunch.
We all hope you have a lovely weekend with your family. God bless,
Mrs Lyons, Miss Forster and Mrs Mather

What a way to start a Monday morning! There was much excitement in class on Monday as we conducted a science investigation on DNA. The children were wondering just whose DNA we were going to extract, I think they were relieved when I said that we were using strawberries!
