At this Christmas when Christ comes, will He find a warm heart? Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving the others with God's own love and concern. 

Another busy week in Year 3, with lots of learning and co-operating with others.

This week in RE we have been thinking about the choices that we make and the choice that Mary made when she said “Yes” to God.  We have started to think about our journey through Advent and have made our Advent Promises, thinking about what we are going to do during Advent as our gift for Jesus. In English this week we have made predictions and written what we think the next part of the story will be. We have been writing what different people have said using inverted commas. In maths this week, we have continued with our adding and subtracting and we have been bridging different hundreds. We have been practising counting in tens and bridging those hundreds. We are getting so much more confident and more proficient at doing this. (Keep practising at home too please). In Science we have continued with our topic of electricity and have been making and drawing simple circuits. Have a look at the photos below.

Let’s Celebrate:

This week our certificates go to Nicola and Stanley. Nicola you are always such a Bobby Bee and you are always so enthusiastic and eager to do your work. You are a little bundle of energy and love to get involved in your learning. Well done. Stanley you have been trying so hard with your reading and you are getting better and better and better at it. All your hard work is definitely paying off and I am so proud that you have reached your target again. Well done. Keep up the good work.

We are delighted that Lily-Mae, Franek, Evan (again), Jay (again), Nicola (again) , and Stanley (again)  have achieved 100% of their reading target this week. Well done children. I am so proud of all the reading that you have all been doing. I know that there is another group of children who will achieve their target next week. Well done everyone. Well done also to Georgia who got the Lunchtime Role Model of the week for Year 3 and 4.

Things to Note:

• Our class charity this year is Street Life. As a class, we have decided that we would like to do a Christmas Jumper Run on Wednesday 9th December. The children can come into school that day wearing their Christmas Jumpers, tracksuit bottoms and trainers. We would be delighted if the children could bring a donation of  £1 on this day, which we will donate to Street Life.

• On Tuesday 15th December we will be doing our annual Danceathon. This year it will be slightly different as we will not be able to do our early morning playground dancing but we will be able to do our dances throughout the day as we usually do. Also this year we will not be raising money for school based projects but all money that we raise as a class will go to our class charities, so the money we raise as a class will go to Street Life. We are asking for £1 donation rather than the usual sponsored event. Children are asked to wear their PE kits on this day.

• Our Party Day this year is on Thursday 17th December. Children can wear their party clothes on this day and can bring a treat (chocolate bar or a packet of crisps) and a drink (not fizzy please) for their snack on this day. This year our parties will be based in the classroom but we will be having lots of fun and playing party games. (Please remember that children will be playing out at playtime and will need their coats and sensible shoes.)

• Please can I remind you about the Home School Agreement form. If you have not yet completed this form please complete and submit it asap. We are still awaiting responses from a number of families. Many thanks.

• Please make sure that you look at the home learning page for this week’s home learning. This should be completed by next Thursday.  This week’s learning is COMPUTER BASED. Many thanks.

Year 4 blog: Have Faith, trust in the Lord and He will guide you

Every week in Year 4, the children become more grown up and more loving towards one another. They are growing in resilience and focus before my very eyes! It has been a truly great week of learning.

We began the week with a worship based on last week’s gospel - about allowing God to guide us in our life. We talked about our conscience and how this could be God speaking to our hearts. Children were so reflective and we thought together about times where we have a choice - to follow God’s path or to turn away. We also discussed how God is always there ready to guide us back to him again if we steer away from him.

Children have been trying so hard to let God guide them this week. They have also been inspired by Mary in our RE lessons and have been thinking about how to be more like her - full of grace, humility, faith and courage.

We are all loving our reading now - in fact it is often hard to stop and get on with lessons! We have introduced a ‘Recommended reading’ wall where children recommend to each other a book that they have read recently. There are so many lovely book conversations going on and many children have started writing stories for their friends to read - which are on our book rack in class! Also we have delved into our novel - ‘Charlotte’s Web’ this week. Children are practising so many different reading strategies and we have been practising reading aloud with correct intonation using punctuation to help us.

We have started our new Science topic - Sound and as usual the class were full of questions and interesting facts! We have been BRILLIANT with addition and subtraction this week - solving lots of tricky problems and being real Sadie Spiders! Advent promises were made on Wednesday - thoughtfully done. I believe little elves will be decorating the school ready for Christmas on Friday!

I had to award 4 certificates this week! A Lizzie Ladybird certificate went to Jacob O. for really following and acting on advice. A Bobby Bee certificate went to Abi for confidence and enthusiasm, A Clara Clownfish certificate went to Isabella for being great at figuring things out and making connections and a Sadie Spider certificate went to Christian for putting full effort, detail and quality into his work!

PE stars this week were Jacob M and Julia for fantastic teamwork and effort.

Music stars were Grace and Christian - brilliant listening and playing!

Christmas Arts and Crafts Day - THIS Friday 4th December - Our first fundraiser in Year 4 will be a Christmas Arts and Crafts Day. On this day, children will be making Christmas decorations for our classroom and for home - all things Christmassy. They can wear a Christmas jumper on this day too if they want - with their own trousers, jeans or skirt - obviously weather appropriate! A donation of £1 (or any donation) would be kindly received, but this must be in the form of a £1 coin as we also want to limit the handling and counting out of money.

Christmas Danceathon Day - Tuesday 15th December - This much anticipated annual event will return with a slight twist this year. The children can come to school wearing their PE kits and we will dance the day away to Christmas music when Miss Hornby sounds those school bells. Unfortunately there will be no gathering on the school playground to dance as a school community but we will dance our socks off in class! Again, donations of £1 for this event in the single coin.

Christmas Party Day - Thursday 17th December - This year we will be enjoying those Christmas party games in our classrooms. On this day, children can come to school in their best party clothes. A small snack of a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps with a drink (no fizzy please) can also be brought into school to be enjoyed after the party. We will also be enjoying a Christmas dinner for lunch.

Read at home every day. You can quiz during school time when a book has been completed.  Are you nearly at your target? Could you read a little bit more this week and try to reach it before next week?

Please remember that you should all be selecting books from the class library within your ZPD to read at home and at school. You may also choose to read extra books from home but these should be within your ZPD please.

Spellings:

They are all high frequency words. The first 4 are ones that they should know but often get wrong when they are writing. Can you put you spellings into a sentence? Thank you.

Don’t forget to find different activities from “Fun Ways to Learn your Spellings” sheet to help your child to learn their spellings.

The children should be able to write the spellings independently - this will need to be written clearly and correctly during the spelling quiz.

Complex sentences:

Can you write some complex sentences using the subordinating conjunctions: after, before, if, although and when? Please make sure that you include the comma and don’t forget to include CL and FS in your sentences too. Make your sentences exciting and make sure that they make sense please. (Check what you have written after each sentence.)

Science:

Think about different things around the home that use electricity and sort them into groups depending on what they do.  Make some lists to show which group they belong to. (Remember some things may belong to more than 1 group.)

Another exciting week of learning in Year 3.

This week we have had our Autumn Internet Safety Day. We have thought about how to stay safe on line and also about what we should do to report an incident if we are not happy with what has happened to us on line. The children made super posters and wonderful E-Safety Heroes. We have also been busy reading  and looking at vocabulary in our English. We have been thinking about speech and what people have said. We have been spotting this and thinking about how they have said it too. (Keep spotting speech when you are reading—look out for the inverted commas “ …”) Again in PE we have been working together as a teams. Our challenges today included working together to make different letters of the alphabet and untangling ourselves as a group from the knot. Again the children had to work together like little Roger Robins, to solve the problems. In maths this week, we have continued with our adding and subtracting. We are getting so much faster at recalling number facts too. (Keep practising) In Science we have been thinking about different uses of electricity. (See the home learning for a bit extra on this).

You have been so focused when it comes to your reading and you have worked really hard, reading lots of books.  I know we have another big group of children who are almost reaching their target and with all the reading that I know they will do over the weekend and next week, I am sure that we will have lots more children to celebrate next week. Foundation Stage Christmas Hat Day and Danceathon

Owing to the current restrictions, r our Christmas celebrations and charity donations at nursery will have to be different this year. We have all been thinking really hard and discussing what we could do to help our chosen charity; Brian House Children’s Hospice.

Brian House the children’s unit specializes in respite, palliative, end of life care and bereavement support for children, young people and their families. Brian House, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, provides care and a ‘home from home’ environment for children and young adults from within the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas who have life threatening and/or life limiting conditions and meet the criteria for care.

Everyone has decided that on Tuesday 15th December KS1 and Foundation will be having a class ‘danceathon’. We are asking that all the children present that day to bring a £1 donation.

On Friday 11th December it will be Christmas hat day and once more we are asking for a £1 donation. All monies collected will be given to Brain House Hospice.

As in previous years we ask that you do not send Christmas cards into nursery but instead make the above donations to such a worthy cause.

With regards to our virtual Nativity (to be posted on our webpage on Wednesday 16th December); I have this week sent home an image consent form. It is important that you complete it and return to nursery as soon as possible. If I do not receive your permission I will be unable to post the video on our webpage.

Finally, our Christmas party will be held in our nursery bubble this year on Thursday 17th December 9.30 am -11.30 am.

The staff and I are so blessed to be able to witness so many of those small things that occur in the dinner hall and on the playground that makes lunchtimes such a special time of day. The acts of kindness, selflessness and compassion that is shown and shared so many times between the children so effortlessly, fills our hearts with joy on a daily basis. and this week has been no exception.

The playground has rung out with laughter, as games have been played, jokes shared and friends simply being together. Unicorns and vets have visited us this week, alongside a cone shop and the mighty power rangers! Super heroes with an array of special talents have been busy saving the day, whilst races have been won and tennis matches played. There is never a dull moment to be had!

Mr Nay has continued to deliver varying activities for all the children to enjoy. It is so lovely to see them beaming with achievement and joy during his sessions, along with their rosy cheeks!
