This week...

Another week of super heroes! The children continue to use their imagination and to explore open ended objects, media and materials to support their play.

This weeks mission with Super Croccy was to find baby spider. He kept running away and hiding from mummy and daddy spider. The children had to use their special powers to find him. Sometimes it was in some very unusual places.

The children have continued with their exploration of number six. We have been learning how to mix things up with a dice! Click here to watch.

Here’s and activity to do at home; Maths in the Bath.

Location: Bathroom Materials needed: Your hands.

Aim: This activity will help your child to understand that there are 4 fingers and 1 thumb (5 digits) on each hand and to recognise 1,2,3,4,5 digits without counting.

Ask your child to look at your hand and ask them: “How many fingers am I showing you?” If your child doesn’t say the number just tell them you are showing 4 fingers. Show your child 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 digits in random order. Can your child recognise automatically the number of fingers without counting? If your child doesn’t answer or gives a wrong answer just tell them the correct number without counting.

Maths in Steps

Location: Anywhere Materials needed: Your feet.

Aim: This activity will help your child to count up to 20 steps correctly and to use words such as, more, same, and fewer.

Ask your child to walk from one side of the room to the other. Then ask them “How many steps did you take?” Now you do the same. Ask your child to count your steps as you walk. Then ask them: “How many steps did I take?” Ask your child: “Are the number of the steps the same?”, “Who made more steps?”, “Who made fewer steps?”

Scavenger Hunt

Location: Garden/Green Space/Park

Materials needed: Things you can find in the garden like leaves, stones, flowers, and feathers.

Aim: This activity will help your child to understand and solve additions up to 10.

Ask your child to find 2 groups of objects. For example: Find 5 leaves and 3 stones. How many do you have in total? Find 3 small stones and 1 big leaf. How many do you have in total? Find 6 green leaves and 2 brown leaves. How many do you have in total? What other examples can you think of? If your child counts incorrectly, put all of the objects in a line and count all of them pointing at each one.

The children have been using bricks and soft shapes to construct dens (and to have a just a jolly good time). Some of their building defied gravity!

As always in nursery we have been extremely busy. We have been watering the garden, writing to the ‘Poggle’ and looking for ‘Smeech’ who came into nursery garden and left lots of litter! Poor Smeech now gets the blame for anything and everything. Nobody has seen him so we don’t know what he/she/it looks like!

On Wednesday afternoon we had an unexpected visit from the Fire Service…don’t panic all was well. One of the children’s daddy drives the fire engine so he stopped outside the nursery so we could all have a look! It was very exciting!

Last but not least here are some photos of everything else we have been doing at nursery. It’s no wonder we are tired by Friday!

The Roman Empire:

Can you find out some exciting facts about the Romans? See if you can find at least 5 facts that you didn’t know before and turn these into a true or false quiz on Purple Mash. Make sure that you remember to save this and hand it in too. I have added the blank quiz as a 2Do on Purple Mash.

It has been a week of many interesting learning opportunities in Year 4! We have begun our fantastic new novel, “The Firework Maker’s daughter in English. Already we are falling in love with it and have been practising all our Year 4 comprehension strategies. We also now have two ‘Dictionary Divas’ in class who always look up words for us. Each day becomes an opportunity to expand our repertoire of words we understand.

RHE

This week we have learned that sometimes our emotions can be confusing and complicated as we grow up. After collecting lots of different emotion words, children reflected on strategies they could use to help them deal with their own emotions in a healthy way. We learned that this is called our ‘Emotional Health.’

We also looked together at the poem above, ‘Leisure,’ by W.H Davies and talked about how good it is for us sometimes to just do nothing and appreciate the beauty around us!

Engagement in Science this week has been great! We have been learning about how water changes state and the processes of evaporation and condensation. We made our own puddle (called Bob) and drew round it all day, watching it shrink until it no longer existed because it had all evaporated into gas. We have carried out class experiments to discover how to speed up the process of evaporation and even today made it rain in the classroom! Now we are putting it all together to learn about the Water Cycle.

A beautiful class worship was carried out by Steph, Amber and Asher about God’s power in our lives. This was my favourite part of the week as it is so special seeing children leading us all in reflection.

This week, Kai received a Tommy Turtle/Lizzie Ladybird certificate for having such a good go at everything and striving to get better. Asher received a Kiki Chameleon/Sadie Spider certificate for always giving his best and reflecting deeply on all learning.

Music stars were Lena and Jack for excellent participation and listening.

“Every new day is another chance to change your life.” Year 3 23rd April 2021

Another busy week of exciting learning in Year 3. In maths we have continued to learn about fractions. We have been finding  fractions of amounts, comparing fractions and finding equivalents. In English there has been lots of reading and quizzing happening and we are so proud of how well the children are doing. We have been continuing our non-fiction topic all about the Roman Empire and learning about Julius Caesar. We have been picking out important facts and reading poetry too. We have also been continuing to practise our complex sentences using facts about the Romans that we have learned. The children have continued to be so enthusiastic when practising our Roman information and have been able to use this information during our lessons. In RE, we have been thinking about the resurrection and have written some lovely prayers. In geography the children have continued to explore the Arctic and have written information sheets. In science the children have been finding out all about magnets.

This week we celebrate Lily-Mae and Matilda. Lily-Mae receives an enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate for her enthusiasm and excitement about her learning. You are so bubbly and full of ideas Lily Mae. It is a pleasure to have you in our class and you are always such a co-operative Roger Robin too. Well done Lily-Mae. Matilda you receive a Roger Robin certificate for being such a lovely learning partner and a kind and considerate member of our class. You are always so willing and enthusiastic to help others and we all really appreciate how kind and generous you are. Thank you so much.

We are also proud to celebrate Anncia who received Jacqui's Marvellous Manners this week and Christian who was Lunchtime Role Model of the week. Well done children.

Well done also to Owen who has achieved 100% of his reading target this week. You are doing a great job and I know that you love reading so much. Keep up the good work.

1. Have a go at completing the experiment below practically with fizzy drinks. The question we are investigating is: Does gas have weight? Feel free to carry out the experiment shown or do your own simpler version. You do not need to fill out the detailed sheet shown in presentation. How will you make it a fair test? I have set a blank document on Purple Mash for you to add photos and type what you found out. How did you prove or disprove the question?

2. Complete the 2nd Purple mash task explaining the characteristics of Solids, Liquids and Gases.

Year 3 Friday 16th April 2021 He has Risen. Have faith in Him... And He will always be there for you.

We hope that you all managed to have some relaxing family time over the Easter break. It is lovely to have the children back for the final term of the year.

The term has started well with the children determined to make the most of this final term and to grow their brains as much as they can. Our liturgies this week have all centred around the Resurrection. The children have shared some lovely prayers for others. We love these special times every day. In maths we have continued to learn about fractions, finding  fractions of amounts and linking this with our multiplication and division facts. In English we have started our non-fiction topic on the Roman Empire. The children have been so enthusiastic and have been coming into school with lots of facts about the Romans that they have found out — I can see that they are determined to become experts on the subject. This week we have been learning a short paragraph all about the Romans, putting actions to the text to help us along. We hope that you enjoy our little video below. In RHE, we have been thinking about how we are all different and all unique. We have enjoyed writing some poems about ourselves. In geography the children have learned about the animals that live in the Arctic. In RE we have now completed our preparation for Reconciliation (Please see the home learning page for this week’s home learning) and we have also found our more about the Mass.

Please log in to your Purple Mash and click on the 2Do section. I would like the children to draw and animate a picture of the Three Little Pigs story.
