What weather we have had this week! We have played in the sunshine, battled against the wind and dodged the rain!

Our week in Year 4 has been full of fascination for flowers. Even though the weather has been dismal, children have made the most of it with their determined attitudes and thirst for learning this week.
It has been a week for Science, starting on Monday with the dissection of a lily, in order to find out all about pollination and reproduction in plants. We even managed to view the pollen under a microscope! Then it was time to learn all about the tricky processes involved, through re-enacting, answering questions from videos and retrieving all this information until we were secure. Finally, children have blown me away with their excellent explanation texts - all about the life cycle of a flowering plant.
In maths this week, we have moved along to place value. Children have been revising their understanding of numbers to 1000 and the values of each digit in a three digit number. Next week - onwards and upwards to larger numbers!
We were rocking in our recorder lessons this week and learned the next note already. We are starting to sound very tuneful - hopefully at home too! Other highlights include dramatising the story of Joseph and his coat of many colours in RE and climbing the ropes and climbing frame this week in PE.
Let’s Celebrate!
This week, A Sadie Spider certificate has gone to Daisy. You always try so hard in everything you do Daisy and you have a drive to do well. Your improvement just in a few weeks is brilliant! A Roger Robin certificate goes to Dominic, for being such a brave boy starting our school and such a friendly one too! A Tommy Turtle certificate goes to Molly-Ann for having such excellent concentration - during reading time, when writing your life cycle and in every subject. Your focus is really paying off and you tackle everything! You should feel very proud.
PE stars this week were: Leon and Harvey for listening well and trying hard.
Music stars this week were: Evan and Millie
French stars this week were: Jay, Lily-Mae and Tabby
Notices:
Please could all children have a coat each day now as the weather seems set to change! Thanks so much for making sure they have the appropriate PE clothes on PE days. It means we could all access the equipment.
Have a lovely October weekend.
Warmest regards,
Mrs Lyons, Mrs Mather and Miss Woodrow

Jesus askes us to love one another as he loved us. This can be so hard to do at times when often we are not feeling loved ourselves. In my worship at the beginning of the week, I asked the children to think about all of the people who they love and how it feels to be loved.

The week has just flown by and once again, we’ve reached Friday in what seems like the blink of an eye! Each day has been jam packed with so much fantastic learning, from English to Geography, Computing and Music - I think there’ll definitely be some tired children in need of a rest this weekend!

A funny sort of week at nursery, the weather has definitely taken a turn for the worst. We better start thinking about wellies and winter woolies!
Nonetheless, the children have been undeterred to brace the elements. Our outdoor sand pit is now a mud kitchen, we think it is even better now!
This week has seen the launch of the new ‘What to Expect, when?’ document for parents. The purpose of this booklet is to help you as a parent/carer find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS.
Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you as a parent know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS. Click on the button below to find out more.
The children have been loving an old favourite story, Little Rabbit Foo Foo. As promised on the newsletter here is the link to watch the video. I bet the children will be able to join in! Click here for Little Rabbit Foo Foo.
…and now for your favourite part of the blog…
I am pleased to say that Colette will be back at nursery next Wednesday, in the meanwhile Clare has been compiling photos of Colette’s key children.

This week we have been deepening our learning on our emotions. We each took a group of photos acting out each emotion and discussed when we experience these emotions. These photos are on this blog, see if you can work out which emotion is which! You may want to play acting out each emotion with your child.

Some very rainy days have given us the chance to explore more of our lovely nursery classroom this week whilst we couldn’t play outside. It has been nice to watch the children be creative with different things! We have had skeleton jigsaws to piece together, magnet creations that crossed the whole length of the nursey when linked up and some fast cars whizzing down ramps that we have built. Lots of us managed to identify that fruits and vegetables were indeed healthy in our shopping basket game, but were a little more puzzled when it came to deciding if fish fingers and ice creams were healthy or treat foods! This has been such a fun game to play with the children whilst we share ideas about which foods are sugary and might not be as good at helping our bodies grow big and strong! We did spot that brushing our teeth is really important too, along with exercise and a good night’s sleep!! Well done everyone on another fun filled week at nursery.
Hannah
The children look so happy and are eager to try lots of new activities.
Worship
This week we have been thanking God for the gift of our oceans. Together we thought of sea animals that live in the ocean and came up with 29 different creatures! You may want to see how many you can name at home.
We also asked the children why Earth is called the blue planet? Please ask your child, as I know they would love to tell you why. We then watched a short video full of sea creatures and thanked God through prayer for his wonderful gift of oceans. Click here to watch the video at home.
Next, I have just a few snippets of important information for you.
Firstly, could we ask that you do not park close the corner of Kenilworth Road junction at drop off and collection times. It makes it difficult for cars turning in and out of the adjoining roads as well as putting children crossing the road at risk. I fully understand that these are busy times and parking is difficult but please help us keep our children safe.
Secondly, this year Tempest photography will be taking individual photographs for all classes (including nursery) on Wednesday 13th October. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate family groups or children who do not attend nursery on that morning.
Lastly, as you will know all parts of society are struggling with supply and delivery and school catering has not been immune. Over the past two weeks Jacqui, our cook and her team have tried to problem solve as deliveries have been late or have not arrived and I have to say they have done a fantastic job keeping everyone well fed despite the disruption. Going forward Lancashire catering have now introduced a temporary menu until the situation eases. Within school we have decided to try and keep as much variety as we can, including that well loved roast dinner. We will create weekly menus depending on our deliveries. We are so sorry for this inconvenience but please rest assured all children will be fed with tasty food lovingly prepared by our cook Jacqui and the team.
We hope you manage to get out and about this weekend without getting too soggy or blown away. Whatever you have planned stay safe and well and we will see you all on Monday.

Year 3 Remote Learning- Monday 4th October
Here is the remote learning for the week… this week we are starting to write our own fable, using the structure of ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’ to help us. For homework, you thought of your own animals and now its time to race them- which animal will win? Which animal was boastful and went to sleep? See if you can innovate my writing to make it your own! Can’t wait to read them …

Yet another great week in Year 3 has come to an end! The children have been working very hard to listen and be good role models this week. That means they have now got TEN class hug, which means at some point they will be awarded there 5 minutes extra play- amazing job Year 3, let’s keep up the hard work! I can’t believe we have now been back to school for 4 weeks - time really does fly when you’re having fun. The children are working so hard and have settled in to life in the juniors much better than I could have ever expected.

In Year 6, we have to learn all of the spelling patterns taught in KS2. Each week I will set you some spellings based on our work in class. Learn them for homework ready for a quiz next Tuesday. This week’s spellings continue to look at suffixes.
beginning, admittance, stoppable, permitting, preferred,
regrettable, wettest, forgotten, referring, forbiden

This week we have been looking at metric measures, linking with decimals. For homework, I would like you to cook or bake using metric measures at home.
Send me a photo of whatever you make! Discuss the metric measures with your parents at home.
Geography
We have been discussing retrieval in class and how we have to draw on prior knowledge. Can you complete the To Do that I have set you on Purple Mash? What can you remember about volcanoes? Think detailed and gather as much information as you can.
Geography
Over the next few weeks, you will be completing your own South America project at home. You will then be using the information that you have found to create your own interactive book. Please complete this piece of homework in your HOMEWORK BOOK.
This week is about your country’s food, culture and sports
Can you create an information page in your homework book about these?
Do they have a specific food that they eat? A specific sport that they play? A specific dance?

I couldn’t feel more proud of all of the children this week! They are without a doubt now into the full swing of Year 2 and are showing just what they are capable of. I explained to the children this morning just how difficult it was to choose learning certificates as each and every person has shone and stood out in some way or another. Some have produced brilliant writing in English, whilst others have problem solved and taken their thinking to a real deep place in maths. Well done Year 2 - it’s great to teach such enthusiastic and focused children!

Let me begin by saying how very proud I have been of our Holy Communicants on both weeks. I am sure you will agree that they did so well. They were reverent and the whole experience was one of calm and siplicity.
It has been a lovely week in year 4. This week we welcomed our new pupil Dominic, all the way from El Salvador. He has settled in beautifully all thanks to your wonderful children who really are so welcoming and delightful.

This week we have focused a lot on our 2 key virtues for this half term - being learned and wise. We looked at quotes to help us reflect upon how to have wisdom. Now that we are getting older, it is important that we try to stop and think, before we act, always reflecting on our choices. Some of our favourite quotes were “I have learned that I still have a lot to learn,’ and “Knowledge speaks but wisdom listens.’
As our learning about time in maths has become more difficult, we have had lots of conversations this week about not being worried if we don’t understand things immediately. We discussed how we can keep listening, keep trying and believe that we will understand if we keep engaging with the learning fully.
Children have enjoyed Science this week. We have spent our English lessons applying our science understanding to write explanation texts all about Seed Dispersal. For the first piece of writing of the year, they are superb! Children have loved learning about dispersal and have been running into class with acorns and poppy seed heads they have found outside!
We have also looked at the results of our investigation into what seeds need in order to germinate. Children wanted to investigate further and we are now seeing if plants need light in order to grow healthily by leaving a germinated seed in the dark cupboard.
Also this week, we have been examining what different functions each part of a plant has. Below is our investigation to prove how the stem works! Oh the excitement we have had watching this happen!
Children really impressed me in their second recorder lesson this week. Children are already playing 2 tunes well. We have had some super PE lessons too!
Let’s Celebrate.
Rosa already met her reading target last week! Well done! We have just over 3 weeks to go everyone. Let’s go for it!
This week, our certificate winners go to:
Edi for being a brave learner (Tommy Turtle) who always has a go and tries to engage fully in everything.
Tabby (Lizzie Ladybird) for striving to improve -especially in her writing this week, which got better and better on each attempt.
Rosa (Roger Robin) for being such a supportive and helpful pupil in class. You make wise choices Rosa and try so hard in all you do.
PE stars this week were Nicola and Ruby-Lilly for super focus on apparatus.
French star this week was: Owen

You can now sign up for Parents day appointments. These will be on a platform called ‘Schoolcloud.’ I look forward to discussing your child’s learning with you.
Please help your child to meet their reading target this half term, by challenging them to read for 20 minutes each night, preferably aloud to you for some of this time.
Have a lovely weekend. The weather is changing and becoming blustery! Enjoy.

We’ve had a wonderful time this week in Year 1. We’ve been scientists, classifying animals; mathematicians using number lines and have sung our hearts out in music. We’ve been very busy!
