Year 6 Dance Festival

Historically, the dance festival has always been operated across Year 5 & 6, sometimes Year 4, but this year, we are just doing it with Year 6. With Mrs Harrison being our dance specialist, we want to maximise her time - whilst also giving the children a really special experience. We have never used 30 children before, but this is the year, and seeing how much they have enjoyed Shakespeare in recent years; I think they will love it. Below you will find all of the information regarding the performance and when it will be - Tuesday 26th November . Tickets for it go on sale today at midday - these will be direct from The Winter Gardens. The button below will take you to their website.

The theme this year is magic - which we know will inspire them all - and just have fun!

Family Mass - Sunday 6th October

On Sunday, we will have our first family mass in church. Family mass takes place every Sunday at 9.30am, but we are now wanting to involve the children more in this - which is just lovely. I understand that not everyone will be able to come, you all have commitments, this is just another opportunity if you choose too.

The children who will be directly involved in the Mass on Sunday are above on the PDF. If your child’s name isn’t listed, they will be involved, just sat with you taking part in the mass. Those children who are in the choir, will be sat in the choir loft with the parish choir. The readers and offertory children can sit with their parents and come up when it is there turn for involvement. Staff will be present too to support. We can then choose different children for readings, choir and offertory at our next mass in December, and throughout the year.

Sometimes, those families with children sit towards the back of church, but Father Peter will be addressing his homily to all of the children in the congregation so please do come a little bit closer to be part of that. There are 14 children making up our choir, so you should really be able to hear them!

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Following mass, there is the monthly coffee and craft club at the Parish Centre. Please do attend if you are able to.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'Charity is the cement which binds Communities to God and persons to one another' St Vincent De Paul

Jesus asks us to love one another as he loved us. This can be so hard to do at times when often we are not feeling loved ourselves. During our RE lessons this week, we have continued to explore the Kingdom of God and how we can create it here on Earth, just as God wanted us to do. Today we celebrated two very important feast days at mass: St Vincent De Paul and Our Lady Star of the Sea. What a wonderful day celebrating mass with Bishop Paul and showing him around our beautiful school, such an honour to share this day with him. This week our litugies have been centred around St Vincent De Paul and our word of the week Missionary, looking at hi work for his charity and compassion for the poor.

The week started beautifully with Year 6’s assembly all about leadership, how kindness is the key to true happiness and how we should all ‘put a little love in our hearts’. We hope you enjoyed sharing this assembly with us and I am sure you will agree we have many budding actors in our class! I feel like we are very much into the groove of Year 6 learning now, hitting our daily targets constantly. The pace of learning within the classroom has certainly ramped up and I know Mrs Smith has been very impressed with how hard the class have worked, she’s had a wonderful week with them! The Nowhere Emporium is certainly full of twists and turns, there are so many questions that we need answering. The children have now read chapter 1 and are intrigued to read more to find out what type of magic lies within the emporium!

Harvest Plea

In preparation for our HARVEST FESTIVAL, as a school we have made the decision to collect food items for Fylde Foodbank who are struggling with the amount of need in our area. We would be so grateful if Year 6 could collect deodorant or shaving foam. Donations can be made from next week and will be much appreciated -thank you.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 27th September "There is a bit of hidden magic in every mistake. The magic is called learning."

It has been a magical week of learning in Year 4 this week! As you can see, children learned to put their flutes together and blow. This is harder than it sounds! However, this is where the magic lies - sharing mistakes so we all learn from them and improve!

Children have been thinking about the word missionary in worships this week and what it means to be ‘on a mission.’ We have been able to look at the life of St. Vincent De Paul, a great missionary and how we can adopt this outlook. We decided we can say, “What can WE do to help?” It links beautifully with our class assembly song - ‘My own two hands,’ which is about taking agency yourself to make a difference.

Today was such a special day as we had a mass and then a school visit from Bishop Paul Swarbrick. Children then learned all about Mary and her title - Star of the Sea. They produced some beautiful artwork reflecting her guiding role for seafarers and also for people who are experiencing rough times.

In English this week, we have launched our novel, ‘Charlotte’s Web.’ Children have thought about the dilemma of the story and written in role as Mr. Arable the farmer. They have thought carefully about what do do if they do not know the meaning of words they read and they are learning to make a ‘best fit’ from the context around that word. They have also been predicting, asking questions and doing ‘reading brain!’ Ask them what it is!

In maths we are now onto column subtraction and we are comparing it closely with column addition. In our mastering number sessions the big focus has been on doubles and how these are also our 2x tables.

In Science this week, we have learned about flowering and non-flowering plants and how they both reproduce. Children looked at spores from a Fern under a microscope.

We are very proud of Year 4 in the hall, as they are taking on the roles of looking after and serving the younger ones. They are truly on a mission!

Times Tables

Lots of TTRS to make sure we are super sharp and speedy on our times tables- these will come in handy this year. The children’s TTRS logins have been stuck on the inside of their homework books.

This week...

Another great week at nursery. The children are quickly becoming more confident and more willing to ‘have a go’ (just like Tommy Turtle) at new learning experiences. We read the story about Tommy being afraid to try new things in case they went wrong. We found out that making mistake is ok, as that’s when we do our best brain growing!

Autumn colours

This week we have been noticing that the leaves are falling from the trees and changing colour. We decided to do some printing using the clours we had noticed.

We got very messy…fabulous! Next week we will be doing autumn collages! Watch this space!

Worship

This week we have explored St Vincent de Paul. He aspired to live the gospel message by serving the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society. He was on a mission and so have we! Everyone has been trying to serve and think of others before themselves. I am more than proud of everyone. Click here to watch a short video.

On Friday we had a visit from Bishop Paul. We drew pictures of Our Lady and the created a display in the hall. Check out the main school webpage to see how the visit went.

Emma’s Blog

Hello everyone! We have had a very busy week growing our brains and having lots of fun.

We have been practicing our throwing and catching skills using different sized balls. We tries underarm and overarm throwing. This will help us with our gross motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination. Have a go at home (if it’s not raining!). Mr. Nay also had us a throwing shuttlecocks, which were really fun to throw. The children loved watching them glide and spin as they landed. We played a game where we had to throw the shuttlecocks and hit the cones (target practise). This was really tricky but the children all had a go, just like Tommy Turtle.

It’s great this year as we have lots of P.E. sessions. We have PE with Mr. Nay and Mr. Murray on Monday and Wednesday, and on Wednesday afternoon and Friday we do dance!

This week we have been practicing using a knife and fork in spaghetti cutting activity. This was the like colour monsters feelings different colours and all mixed up. Our task was to sort the different coloured spaghetti and then to chop it up. This also helps with eye hand co-ordination and fine motor skills. The children loved it and we even had some great fork twirling too! Continue to practice at home with your knife and forks, as it all helps to strengthen the children's hand muscles, getting them ready for writing. Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.

This week has been as busy as ever as we have played lots of games together. Playing games gives children lots of opportunities to learn how to share and take turns as well as extending their vocabulary and concentration and focus. One of the games we have been playing is Kim's game, which is great for memory, the children really have to use their brains to recall the information. Click here to play at home

We have also played a game where the children have to rescue the peas released by the Evil Pea. This game helps to develop a nicer grip which the children will need to be confident writers. My Happy Mind

Our exploration of the brain is going well. I now hear the children talking freely about their hippocampus, amygdala and (not quite as easily remembered) prefrontal cortex. We are really trying to be in control by making all three parts work together in harmony- H.A.P.

This week we made a small world scene with all our My Happy Mind characters and our own mini me’s. Great fund and wonderful dialogue. We are continuing with our happy breathing. Here are a couple of exercises to try at home!

Harvest

Harvest mass for the main school is being held in church on Friday 11th October. Although nursery will not be attending you are more than welcome to come along and celebrate. Nursery will have our own celebration during our Friday worship session.

As in previous years we will be collecting items to be distributed around our local community. This year nursery will be collecting nappies, a much needed item in todays economic climate. We urge everyone to give generously. Thank you in anticipation.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 27.09.24- ' If God is at the center of your heart, then your mere presence will touch others' hearts'- St Vincent De Paul

What a wonderful and reflective week it has been at Our Lady’s with today being a special day in the Catholic calendar as we celebrated both St Vincent De Paul and Our Lady Feast Day. We spent the morning celebrating this together in mass at church, which was led by our special guest for the day- Bishop Paul. Bishop Paul then joined us back at school where he got to witness life at Our Lady’s- in which he was super impressed with. To celebrate this in class, we designed some Our Lady medallions, which will be created into a class bunting for our worship display.

In Science, it was time to get practical to test how to separate different materials from mixtures. The children analaysed all three methods and suggested scenarios when and when not to use each of these. Of course, we had to finish the lesson with our favourite solubility experiment- ‘Sugar or Salt’.

In Maths, it has been all things column addition and subtraction. A method that the children are familiar with in Year 4 but we have applied this to our 6 and 7 digit numbers. We also had to use this method in our angles topic to find the missing angles on straight lines and around a point.

In English, we have been using all of our collective vocabulary from last week and applied this into our complex sentences, using our subordinating conjunctions (I SAW A WABUB) as sentence starters. We then finished the week by begining our planning for our own narrative write by deciding which mythological creature we are going to use in our story. The children put their knowledge to the test with a famous ‘Cornwell Quiz’, with 4 teams coming out victorious.

Let’s Celebrate

Rory and Isioma for being determined learners: We all know that homework is not necessary everyone’s favourite pastime. Your compulsory homework is always complete which shows your teachers you are committed to bettering yourself but to put in the effort in your optional homework is just outstanding. You have gone above and beyond with your history homework and have created some toolkits that the whole class can use- excellent work.

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtue start of the week goes to John-Paul. You really are a discerning young man Johnny. Your judgement and decision making has been impeccable this year. You are always making the right choice, even when your friends are not- you know what the right thing to do is and your not to be swayed.

Samlesbury Hall Visit

This half term in History we are learning all about the Tudors and even writing our own biographies of Henry VIII! To aid this learning, we have arranged to take the children for a visit to the historic stately home ‘Samlesbury Hall’ on Wednesday 2nd October where we will spend the day there and be took on a tour around the grounds. We have added the cost of this trip to parentpay, the cost of the visit in total is £18.50. We will be leaving school at 9:30am so children need to arrive at usual time and will arrive back in time for normal collection. Full school uniform need to be worn please, and there may be an opportunity to have a play in the park if it stays dry, so please make sure they bring a coat.

As the trip is only next week Jacqui needs to know those who need a school packed lunch ASAP. Please fill out the form below whether you do or do not wish for a school packed lunch.
