It has been another lovely week, although, we have been on high a alert for a big bad wolf. We received a letter on Monday from the Three Little Pigs, they were very concerned and wrote a letter to Reception. They wanted to let us know that the big, bad wolf is missing and could be near to school. The Three Little Pigs wrote a great description to tell us what he looks like and Reception have made wanted posters, which we are putting up around our school, just in case he is spotted. We will keep you informed…

Certificates

Concentrating Cooper Crab Teddy for... Improving your concentration skills so much. We are SO impressed with you and how much you have already grown this year. You now take part in class discussions brilliantly and follow all classroom rules, and even encourage others too. A huge well done Teddy, we are so proud of you!

Curious Clara Clownfish Gus for... Always being such a curious learner. You have been so enthusiastic to help the 3 Little Pigs find the big, bad wolf and have been making sure that our classroom is safe! We have also noticed how focused you have been which is brilliant. Keep up the great work.

Phonics

It has been lovely to hear so many positive comments about your child’s reading. Reception are so enthusiastic and concentrate so carefully during their Phonic lessons.

The children have really improved their side gallops. Please practise these at home.

This week we have focused our vocabulary and have been exploring heights. Our new maths vocabulary is: Tall, taller, tallest and short, shorter, shortest. Again, it has been lovely to hear you share how your child is already using this vocabulary at home!

Please practise your 2, 5 and 10 times tables using the help sheet given in the HELP section of our year 4 site and using the websites below. This is for a test on Thursday. We will then be trying to master one set of times times per fortnight.

Reading

Almost everyone has made a cracking start to their reading this half term. Some children are shooting up the reading display in class - well done to Rhys, Jayden and Elizabeth- they have reached their targets already!!! These three are closely followed by Dylan and Annabelle. I wanted to celebrate these children as they have made great progress - they are enjoying their books and scoring well on the test at the end. Keep it up everyone! I have attached a parents guide for ACR so you too can keep a track of your child’s progress too

English

Thank you for completing the Extended Noun Phrases last week! We will practice these again throughout the year - they are tricky- even I made an error in class this week. This week have explored sentences with ED openers. I have prepared a special homework page to explain. Once you have read the explanation complete the task set.

Geography

Please complete the Purple Mash map work challenge. This week I have returned to the UK. Can you name the counties of England? We have parents who originally came from a different part of the country- Mrs Hotchkiss comes from Greater Manchester. Can you label the counties correctly. I have handed out a map to help the children.

Note: I have shown the children how Purple Mash reports on how they did on each task. It shows the level of accuracy and who completed it. IXL does the same. Please make sure you complete the tasks in the week set- Thank you. Good homework habits now will set you up for life long learning!

This week...

Such a busy week!!!

All the children have designed a firework picture on the computer and then printed it out. We then decorated it using lots of sparkles!! They look fantastic!

During the week we have also been finding out about the Remembrance Day poppy. We watched a short video about why we commemorative on the 11th November. The children then printed their own field of poppies.

On Friday we intend to make Gingerbread Men. The children have reminded me that I said we would after the holiday...!! We will eat them for snack!

Currently at nursery we are very short of socks, underpants/knickers and trousers. May I ask, if you have any of our spare clothing at home could you please return them, if not donations of the above would be greatly received!

Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 6th November

What an improvement in the standard of homework, it is so lovely to see the efforts that the children are putting in. The work on the Battle of Bosworth is great!

Spelling: words ending in -ence. Remember, the words that we looked at last week were adjectives, they are now turning into nouns.

science, offence, violence, audience, sequence, patience, reference, obedience, existence, influence, experience, dependence, difference, competence, commence.

Maths - continue to work through strand B on IXL. Please do not worry if you are finding some areas tricky, I can see from the analysis which areas you are finding difficult and we can look at it in class.

History - Using the research that you completed on the Battle of Bosworth last week, can you turn this into a newspaper article on Purple Mash. Think carefully about the fonts that you are using and the format of your work. Remember that your work is all about detail. I want to see depth to your writing. I would like to see:

• Who was involved in the battle?

• Where did it take place?

• When did it take place?

• What happened at the battle?

• Could you include a quote of someone who was there? Use your imagination.

English - can you find 10 facts about William Shakespeare that will contribute to our biography on him next week.

Year 3 Homework to be handed in Wednesday 13th November

READING- Please make sure you are reading to an adult for at least 20 minutes EVERY night and get them to ask you questions about the text, I can’t stress how important this is! Are you quizzing regularly enough? Are you reading books that you enjoy? Are you challenging yourselves with the books you are choosing?

SPELLING- Like last week the spelling is from Year 2’s key spelling list, just to remind ourselves of how to spell some of those tricky words. Like last week, make sure you know when you would use these words by putting them in to different sentences out loud with an adult or in your books. We will be quizzing on them as part of our spelling lesson next week:

MATHS - Please complete the IXL strand B2 and B4 under ‘comparing and ordering’ to practice our use of the greater than and less than sign- we must make sure we do not get mixed up with which way the crocodile snaps! I will be checking who has completed these strands on Wednesday.

ASSEMBLY PREPARATION - Children have now been given their lines to learn for the assembly on the 19th November. Could you please make sure they learn their lines off by heart with lots of expression and volume. The lyrics of the song that we are learning as a class for the assembly have also been sent, if children could use the clip below to practice and sing a long to that would be great- they must also try to learn this song off by heart …

Thinking about our world and those who live in it.

Our Harvest celebrations were held in school this year with liturgies shared which encouraged the children to think of how their own actions could grow the people harvest that Christ imagined. Thank you so much for all your wonderful donations; you are all so kind! The food bank greatly appreciated your kindness, and a special thank you to our lovely three parents who transported the collection for us.

We have had a really good first week back! Children are really settling down and coming together as a class now, which is lovely. We will be welcoming Victor, who some children remember from nursery, on Monday. Children are so excited to get to know him again!

Today we celebrated a lovely mass together in church. Children were so prayerful and really sung their hearts out. In RE this week, we have been considering ‘What is God like?’ and using what is revealed to us in the Old Testament to find out. This led to children asking a barrage of questions about God, which they have recorded in their RE books! We went deep!

In our English this week, we have practised reading skills of inference and finding evidence from the text. Then we have planned our own story based on the Pied Piper and begun to write it. In french we have been learning about different rooms in the house whilst also learning all the french words for ‘the’ and ‘a’ Sometimes it feels like a high school class in French but the children really rise to it!

In yoga, children are becoming very good yogis too - they were so still this week! They have been practising techniques for relaxing at bedtime and going to sleep. Why not practise at home?

In maths this week, we have been comparing and ordering our larger numbers and making sure we understand this language: greater than, smaller than, fewer, ascending order and descending order.

This week, three Sadie Spider certificates for effort and hard work were given out - well done Eli, Harvey and James. You are working your socks off!

Our french stars this week were Finian and Jacob. Our swimming stars were Olivia and Jacob and our yoga stars were Jacob and Lorna-Jane. Well done!

"Forget your troubles and dance."

Welcome back everybody, the children have come back refreshed and full of enthusiasm. Danceathon was such a success and any of the initial nerves were soon banished as all of the children danced all day long with huge smiles! At the end of the school day all of the classes went out onto the playground to dance the Cha cha cha. It was fantastic!

We have also started our new story focus, the traditional tale, ‘The Three Little Pigs’. On Thursday we found hay, sticks and bricks and the children concluded that the only possible explanation could be that the three little pigs had been into our classroom. Next week we will be exploring the story further, creating story maps and actions to help us to retell the story.

Today we went to church, our first time as a class! The children were beautifully behaved and sang the hymns we have learnt in class wonderfully.

Seth for... always being so enthusiastic towards learning! Your excitement really rubs off on those around you and this means you are always surrounded by others. You are also very curious, you think carefully and wonder about how things work. Keep being curious and enthusiasm Seth, it is just wonderful to be around!

Tilly N for... Always concentrating so carefully. You are such a determined little girl with such a desire to succeed. You concentrate so hard during our learning challenges. It is so lovely to hear you chanting, “Concentrate Cooper” as you spur yourself and others on. You really do encourage your friends with such kindness and love. Well done Tilly!

Phonics

This week we have learnt the sounds:

L, h, sh and r. The ‘sh’ is made up of two ‘special friends’. When they are together in a word they no longer make their initial sounds ‘s’ or ‘h’, they make the new sound ‘sh’. I wonder if you can spot our new sounds in any words this week…

RE

We have been thinking carefully about our families this week and how special they are to us. We explored the similarities and differences between many different family structures. The children understand that we all belong to one big family, God’s family!

Reminder

Reading books should be in your child’s school bag each day. We change all of he children’s reading books on a Thursday. However, if your child has read their book a few times, shows good understanding and is able to tell the story or read the story fluently, please let either myself or Miss Neves know when dropping your child off and we can change their book that day.
