Year 5 Monday 4th May Learning From Home

Good Morning Year 5 I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Next weekend is special - on Friday 8th of May the country will be celebrating a Bank Holiday it will mark the 75th Anniversary of the end of the war in Europe in 1945 - we call it VE day (Victory in Europe). The war continued a little longer elsewhere- over in Japan and it was the bombing of Nagasaki that led to the end of the World War at that time. That’s the same bombing of Nagasaki that is mentioned in our book- the town where Kensuke’s family lived.

Year 2 Home Learning Challenges for the week - Week Beginning 4th May 2020

Good Morning Year 2!

Did you have a good weekend? Did you manage to do lots of fun activities with your family? I do hope so! We have reached the beginning of yet another new week of learning. Keep working just as hard as you have been. The quality of your work really is blowing me away, and I love how much fun you are having whilst learning too. You only have four days of hard work, with Friday being a bank holiday this week. How lucky are you?

Here are this week’s challenges. Don’t forget to keep in touch. Maybe you could ask your parents if you could write an email for me this week (under their supervision of course).

It also isn’t too late to sign up for the Epic Reading resource. If you would like access to a huge range of books, some with quizzes, please send an email to l.woodend@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk. This will enable me to send you an invite to create an account.

This week’s English focus theme is ‘non-fiction: Recipes’. Some of the lessons this week provide the opportunity to follow a recipe and make some delicious food! These activities are optional and can be changed to suit what you have in you cupboards if you wish. Each of these tasks MUST be supervised by an adult. When following links online, parents should monitor that children are remaining on that page only and are keeping safe online.

Day 1
Read together some of the healthy recipes on the website below. There are plenty to choose from, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even barbecue and picnic recipes!
https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes

After you have read a few examples together, ask your child: How has the author tried to make it easy to follow each recipe? e.g. sub-headings, an ingredients section, use of numbers to sequence the steps, ingredients in green print to stand out, etc.

If you have the opportunity, select one of the recipes and have a go at making your chosen food. Alternatively, make some food following one of your own favourite recipes. (Children MUST be supervised by an adult).

Afterwards, evaluate the recipe together. Were the steps easy to follow? Could the recipe be improved in anyway? Don’t forget to enjoy and evaluate your food too!

SumDog

Have a go at today’s challenge ‘Plurals and Apostrophes’.

Oxford Owl Spelling

Choose a spelling rule to work on today.

Maths

We are now back onto White Rose Maths Learning. This week, the children will be revisiting addition and subtraction. How much can they remember?

Click the link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ and access ‘Summer Term, Week 3’.

Lesson 1 - Fact Families addition and subtraction bond to 20.

SumDog

Division Facts for 2s, 5s and 10s.

IXL

Which sections do you have left to complete? Have a look and see how many you can get through.

Don’t forget to check the weekly challenges for more learning!

Enjoy your day,

Miss Woodend

"The righteous man cares for the needs of his animals" Proverbs 12:10

Now we are missing our formal RE lessons each week- but being a Christian is all about action and when you learn independently; try your best; love your family; show patience; perform acts of love- that is your faith in action! Now Jayden has worked out how many steps we would have to climb to get to the top of Mount Everest. Here is a picture of his workings out! Can we do this for charity?

Home Learning - Monday 4th May 2020

A new week of learning and lots of new units of work to start. In English we will be starting Wonder (I am very excited). In maths, I will be starting to teach you again using White Rose materials that you are used to. In history, we will be starting a local history unit of work and in science, focusing our attention on the human life cycle.

I hope you enjoy my introductory video for the week…don’t worry I will appear. Enjoy listening to Space Oddity by David Bowie and hopefully you will see the link to our learning this week. You know what I am like, if we can launch learning in a fun and creative way - then let’s do it!

The first message that we will meet in this book is ‘Choose Kind.’ That is exactly what I would like you to do this week. What acts of kindness can you do for the people who are making sure that you are safe, or for your local community, can you make someone smile. The last half term is called ‘Service with a Smile.’ What can you do to bring a smile to the face of someone else this week? Let me know what acts of kindness you complete!

History - Local History - Blackpool - a 2 day lesson. Monday and Tuesday

Today we will be starting our new unit of history work - local history - BLACKPOOL! Not only is Blackpool a seaside resort but it was one of the first and people came from all over to be entertained and to visit it’s famous tower. Today is an introductory lesson with 2 tasks: a brief note taking task and then to create a timeline of Blackpool’s history.

Home Learning Photographs - Week Ending 1.5.20

I can’t believe that we’ve reached yet another Friday.

I have loved receiving your photographs this week. Your creativity in your learning has been superb! I have been particularly blown away by your fantastic English work. It looks as though you’ve all enjoyed the Roald Dahl poems. I have also been receiving lots of different emails telling me that different awards have been achieved on the different learning platforms, including more than 30 books read on Epic and lots of sections complete on IXL. Keep it up Year 2!

Also … after looking through all of your friend’s home learning, you might just see a little message from a familiar face and a particularly wriggly puppy!

I hope you are all keeping well!

Stay Safe and God Bless!
