We’ve reached the middle of the week! I hope you all enjoy today’s learning activities!
Continue reading and quizzing on books using the Accelerated Reading and Epic Reading resources. Help can be found in the ‘How to help your child’ section of my page if you need it.
Remember, you should be reading for at least half an hour each day. Also try to read both a range of fiction and non-fiction books.
We have all enjoyed the first chapter of ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark’ together’ Can you complete the alliteration sheet attached below.
Day 3:
Watch and listen to We Are All Wonders by R. J. Palacio by clicking the book cover opposite.
Due to the sensitive content of this book, it is advised that the book is shared and discussed with an adult throughout the reading.
Points for discussion:
What does the word unique mean? What does the word wonder mean? What does the phrase hurt my feelings mean? How does the main character feel when others point or laugh? How does he feel when he puts on his helmet and travels across the galaxy? What do you think it means when the narrator says that perhaps people could ‘change the way they see?’ Talk together about how we are all wonders – include everyone in your household!
The book concludes with the sentence: Look with kindness and you will always find wonder.
Find some synonyms for kindness here:
Make a poster about being kind. Write the final sentence from the book – Look with kindness and you will always find wonder – in bold in the middle of your poster. Around the outside, record all the different ways you can show kindness. Remember kindness can often be shown in the smallest of actions, e.g. smiling, offering to help when someone is stuck, giving someone a compliment.
Try to make your poster as bright and engaging as possible. Put it up in your household to show everyone how you can be kind!
Complete the spelling challenge set for you today.

Look back at your chart from yesterday. Think about the characters and their relationship. You are going to help David Walliams write his next book by helping him invent a child and adult character.
Draw your characters and label them. Think about: Is your child a boy or a girl? Is the adult a man or a woman? What will their relationship be? (Uncle, Auntie, Grandma, Mum, Step Mum, Dad, Step Dad, Cousin, Sister, Half Sister etc.) What do they look like? Do they have any unusual features?
2. Label your new characters. Try to use some extended noun phrases for your labels, e.g. On top of her head she wore a ruby red beret with a large ostrich feather attached to the side.
3. Write a short paragraph to introduce your characters. Include a description of what they look like
4. Write down some interaction between the characters. Do your characters like each other, admire each other, trust each other, dislike each other or despise each other? Use what they say and do to show this in your writing, e.g. As Auntie Ada entered the room, Isla froze. Immediately, her eyes darted to the floor to avoid any eye contact. “Look up girl when I walk in to the room!” demanded Auntie Ada. From this we can tell that Isla is scared of Auntie Ada and that Auntie Ada is authoritative. When you have finished, read through your writing and check your spelling and punctuation.

Today I would like you to think about the Sign of the Cross.
It is a special sign which we make when we start and finish our prayers and it is a sign we make when we go into Church. There is a special prayer which we say when we make the Sign of the Cross and it reminds us that we are part of God’s family. We also have another prayer which we sometimes say in school which also reminds us of this. Can you practise this prayer?
From my head to my heart
From one shoulder to the other
I belong to you God my Father.
Can you match the words to the pictures for making the sign of the cross?
Can you practise making the Sign of the Cross and saying the prayers.?
I hope that you have a lovely day!
