Another lovely week with lots of super learning and children being enthusiastic,  curious and creative in their work.

In maths this week, we have been doing lots of adding and subtracting, thinking about whether we are adding to the ones or the tens. Regular fluency lessons are also ensuring that the children are practising and over learning the skills. In English, we have written diaries as the Crow from the fable of the Crow and the Fox. We have also continued to think about complex sentences creating complex sentences using because, if and when. We have also been trying to focus on our handwriting this week and earn some pen licence points. (Handwriting is on the homework this week too. Don’t forget you can earn pen licence points for homework too). In history we have been looking at some of the changes that took place for Stone Age man as they began to farm the land. In RE we have been thinking about being part of the Christian family and what that means for us. We have been thinking about how we become part of the Christian family. In Science the children have been classifying different groups of animals, they have been using research to find out the names of different bones and they have also learned how muscles contact and relax to help us to move. Make sure that they show you their paper muscle and ask them to explain what is happening.  In computing the children have been researching and also practising their typing skills. We are very pleased to say that we have some budding typists in our class. Keep up the good work children A great week of learning children, well done. This week has also been our turn to use the trim trail which was so exciting. Make sure that you have a look at our lovely photos.

Let’s Celebrate:

This week our certificates go to Georgia and Rosa.  Rosa receives a Bobby Bee certificate for her enthusiasm during learning. You are always so enthusiastic and ready to learn Rosa and you are trying so hard. Well done!   Georgia receives a Resilient Sadie Spider certificate for the way that she has kept on trying and trying and has not been giving up when things have got tricky. It has been lovely to see how you have been getting better and better because you have not given up. Well done Georgia—keep up the good work.

We are also delighted that Connor Sean, Leo (again),  Max and Ruby Lilly have achieved 100% of their reading target this week. Well done. You have done a super job with your reading. We have reset their targets and all of them are determined to try to reach them again before half term. I am sure that by next week we will be celebrating even more children who will have reached their targets too as we have a whole host of children who are in the 80s. Targets for all children will be reset after the half term holiday.

Things to Note:

• · Please make sure that you look at the home learning page for this week’s home learning. This should be handed in after half term.  This week’s learning is BOOK BASED. Many thanks.

• · Please make sure that children have a coat for playtimes and also a jumper or a cardigan for class time as the weather is getting colder but we are having windows open for ventilation. On cold days layers are best so that if it does get warmer in the classroom they can take 1 layer off.

Everyone has a new book to enjoy, sound flashcards with this week’s sounds added and some word flashcards in their folder.

Phonics - Read Write Inc

PLEASE continue to form letters in fun and imaginative ways alongside the below activity.

• Choose a sound that we have learnt so far (m,a,s,d,t,i,n,p,g,o,c,k,u,b,f)

• Pass or roll a ball or balloon to each other, saying a different word each time that starts with your chosen sound. Which letter can you get most words for? For example, flower, foot, face, fox, fog…

• You could use the same idea to segment words, choose a word, then each time the ball or balloon is thrown or rolled say a sound. For example, f-i-n, f-o-g (We have been reading these words this week using our new sounds...bun, bat, bag, big, bus, bug, sun cup, mug, fan, fun, fin, fit, fog, fan). 

Maths                                             

Use your imagination to turn the shapes (on the separate sheet inside reading folder) into a picture. Look at the examples below, a circle can be turned into a bee and a square can be turned into a cat. I can’t wait to see what you think of!

Physical Development

This week we have been improving our running skills, see if you can try this at home. Remember to take long strides, with bent arms and moving backwards and forwards the opposite to our legs. This will help us to run quickly!

This week please share and complete together p21-p39 of Called to His supper Book. Next week we will have our final session so please complete all the rest of the book to the end, over the holidays.

Maths

Please complete IXL: A11 F5 J4 which practise negative numbers AND the 4xtable

Also 8 x table. We have been practising it in class. The best way to learn tables is as follows:

1. Learn how to count in 4’s. Do whilst marching, clapping, do slowly, build up and get faster. Write out all the multiples of 8

2. Learn the key facts which are 1 x 8, 2 x 8, 5 x 8 and 10 x 8. All other facts can be worked out from those. eg 9 x 8 is 10 x 8 - 8. Also write out the 4xtable and compare. It is DOUBLE the fours! The more patterns we can see - the better!

3. Begin to recite your 8 x table and learn your Percy Parker song!

Recorder

Go on Charanga and practise Abi’s Blues and the new song below it. Begin to feel confident at blowing a B and an A note.

Purple Mash

I have set you a 2do to complete either this week or over the holidays. It is linked to our Geography focusing on extreme environments. Choose ONE postcard 2do out of the ones I sent.

Wow! What a fantastic week, we have a class full of enthusiastic Bobby Bee’s. Everyone in our class has done something to be proud of this week. From being a kind friend, a busy learner, or using our imagination we’ve done it!

We were introduced to Bobby Bee this week and he reminds us to feel proud of each achievement, be enthusiastic and Believe in yourself and know you can do it.

We have had a busy week of learning and growing our brains.

This week in RE we have talked about Harvest, this is a time when we thank God for the Harvest and for the food provided for us. We joined Nursery in our gardens on Tuesday to do the Harvest Samba, we wanted to say thank you to God for the sun and the rain that helps the crops to grow. We also said a prayer to show how grateful we are to the farmers and people who prepare delicious food for us at home and school.

In Read =-0Write Inc (RWI) . This week we have learnt two bouncy sounds and one stretchy sound. I have been so impressed with the enthusiasm, and excitement to learn new sounds and read words

This week....

This week the children have been celebrating Harvest. We have been finding out about all the fabulous foods which grow on our planet, nurtured by the farmers. On Tuesday everyone gathered in our outside learning environments to say a big ‘thank you’ to God for creating earth and sending us the sunshine and rain so we can grow yummy food in abundance, we are so grateful.

Also, the children have been learning the story of Little Rabbit Foo Foo by Michael Rosen. Everyone knows it off by heart and last week we made a stage in the garden and performed it for Reception. If you click on the button below you can join in at home!

As you are aware next week we break up for half term, time has flown and we have learnt so much! We are all so pleased with how the children have settled in to nursery, especially under such unprecedented circumstances, and this I feel is down to you. As parents I must say a big thank you for all your wonderful support, and for your hard work in preparing your children to start nursery, it has been very much appreciated by all the nursery team.

I hope everyone manages to have some family time together and the weather is kind to us all. In case of rainy days I will be posting a 'Let’s Learn at Home’ booklet with ideas and activities to enjoy at home. Watch this space!!!
