Indoor Athletics Training

For many years, we have competed in the INDOOR ATHLETICS COMPETITON. This year…it is back after a delay.

For the next two weeks, training will take place for those children who wish to be considered for the team. Children in Year 6 will train on Monday mornings at 8am and Year 5 will train on Wednesday mornings at 8am.

This week in Maths we have been discussing odd and even numbers and measuring. To consolidate their learning of counting, here are some IXL challenges for your child to have a go at. see this as an ongoing learning challenge and certainly not to be completed by next Thursday.

School councilors- busy planting bulbs

Today the school councilors for each class came together for a meeting - we discussed affordable and fun ways of raising a little money for CAFOD this Christmas. Each pair of councilors will now return to class to collect ideas! After that, we all went outside to plant bulbs around our school sign. These flowers will bloom next spring but every year following!!! The school council in action making the school that little bit better and brighter!

This week....

Another busy week.

Monday was ‘messy Monday’ and oh my goodness did we make a mess! We has fairy filling with tiny implements and bottles. The sand was red and glittery!!!! We also made fluffy slime! We read the instructions very carefully but it all went horribly wrong, arghhhhhhh! In the end it was all fine, we made up a different recipe, with different ingredients. We all loved playing with it nonetheless.

We wanted to try and make sudsy gloop, get the bubble mixture and make dough but we ran out of time…..but there is always next Monday?

We are doing really well learning our Nativity songs and actions. We have now got all our costumes out of storage and will be giving out parts next week. We have got all the costumes for each part but would like to ask if everyone could bring in one strand of silver tinsel each. Stars may also need a white t-shirt and leggings to go underneath their costume but we will let you know next week.

As you know, our Foundation Stage Nativity Play is being staged on Tuesday 6th December and Wednesday 7th December at 9:30.

Each Nursery and Reception family may have up to 4 tickets at £2 each across 2 performances (no more than 2 tickets per performance). We need the form—link attached—to be completed by you no later than Friday 25th November. Tickets will only be allocated to people who have completed the form and will be sent out in envelopes via classes, the week beginning 28th November . Payment for tickets will be made on ParentPay for Reception children (Parents you will need first to activate your account using the log in letters which we are sending today). Nursery parents can pay for tickets by sending cash in a named envelope please, to Nursery.

We must point out that we have a maximum capacity of 120 ticketholders in the hall and with the stage plus 60 children, staff and audience, the Hall will inevitably be hot and somewhat crowded. We know how much everyone loves seeing their little ones but advise you, particularly if there are any vulnerable family members, to be aware that this is a confined space. We shall of course be arranging a professional digital film to be made of the play, details will be sent later.

This week we looked at examples of challenging situations that we could face. We read the story about Daisy’s birthday and that actions can sometimes have consequences; that when we make mistakes, we should say sorry and ask for forgiveness. This led us to explore how Jesus forgives us.

Lets get real

Visit from Stuart Robinson.

As you know we had a visit from Stuart Robinson, a rugby Paralympian. He devised a series of exercises for the children (and staff) to take part in. It was so exciting and the children loved every minute. We joined in with Reception and Year 1, cheering each other on to complete each task…..phew!

We began the week by making a mess!!  For some reason we just can’t seem to help ourselves!! Our ‘mess’ involved the creation of our own fluffy slime (it did smell wonderful in Nursery!) We were very lucky with the weather in the afternoon so we were able to play outside! The children are really enjoying building their own obstacle courses and we have been noticing some great balancing skills (no one wants to fall in the hot lava or get eaten by sharks!!!) We were also able to practise our skills on the balance bikes and the scooters…. the children are getting better and better.

The children decided to make a car garage to help repair some faulty vehicles which also included a petrol station. Don’t worry……the fuel in Nursery garden is entirely free and it never runs out (there was a bit of a queue though!!)

We enjoyed dancing to the Cherry Tots in our Hall time and we were introduced to two new Cherries, ‘Shy’ and ‘Cheeky’. We think Cheeky Cherry is our favourite one yet.

I hope the weather manages to stay dry for the weekend!

Hello everyone

What a busy week we have had this week. We are well and truly underway with our preparations for our Nativity performance and we have been practising our songs and actions.

Our Worship this week has concentrated on our actions and the consequences of our actions. We have been practising how we can make our friend happy by passing a smile and saying sorry. As always, we try to make good choices but we also need to learn what to do if we do make a bad choice. We read a story about Daisy and her birthday and made lots of good suggestions about how Daisy could make better choices. We learnt it’s important how we speak to others as this helps us to build friendships.  We also passed a smile around our circle.

We continued our investigations on shape and went on a shape hunt. The shapes were hiding everywhere!

Hello everyone!

We have had another busy week! We started the week getting messy – we continued learning about colour and explored coloured sand, glitter in the playdough and made fluffy slime. This was fun and also very sticky! We spoke about how it changed when we added each ingredient. It smelt great too!

This term we are going to try and make up our own simple stories. We had a discussion as a key group and we wanted to write and learn about dinosaurs, unicorns and princesses. We have had fun dressing up as different characters and making up our stories in our play. The children also found different props and linked them to stories they already knew .e.g a red apple for Snow White. We also had a go at drawing some of our ideas – we used our story dice to help us and we came up with some great ideas for our stories. We will do more of this over the next few weeks – I can’t wait to see what the children come up with!

We have continued to enjoy outdoor play, especially the bikes this week. We have worked hard to practise pedalling the bigger bikes and added the trailer to see if we could ride the bike with our friends on the back – this was hard work! We enjoyed sitting in the back and having a relaxing ride though!

We are working hard to practise our Christmas songs ready for our Christmas Nativity. I’m sure you have heard your child singing them at home. We can’t wait!

What fun day! We made Pudsey Pink Playdough, coloured in Pudsey pictures, took photos of everyone with their teddy and another with our Pudsey blanket!

Have a look in the childrens books bag….there is an activity to do at home too! When you have completed it either send it back to nursery or send us a picture!

Year 3 blog - "The is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about."

What a week! Firstly we would like to say a huge thank you for supporting all of the extra activities that have been going on in school this week! The buzz around school has been fantastic and seeing our school community come together again has brought such happiness to us all! The children were SO excited on Wednesday when we welcomed Stuart Robinson into school. They all took part in a tricky exercise class, cheered on another class and listened beautifully to Stuart’s inspiring talk during an assembly. Thank you for being so organised with your sponsor forms, it is amazing to see the amounts that have been raised.

We have also had some really exciting moments in class as we continued our English learning about dragons! Many of our children have been looking out for any clues or signs that dragons are in our area. We have carried out interviews and have even created our own news reports which we hope to film next week.

Thank you to all of you who managed to come along to our school Curriculum evening. It was great to see you all in the school, joining in activities and discovering more about our school virtues.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'Nothing worth having comes easy'

What an inspirational and busy week we have had in Year 6… the highlight of the week has most definitely been our visit from Stuart Robinson MBE, who taught us just what the word resilience means and how it can make you unstoppable at striving to achieve your goals. Each class took part in an exercise circuit (of course we were first) and then later on we cheered and encouraged our younger pupils to complete their circuits from Nursery and Reception. We had such good fun, but the lesson behind the morning was of the greatest value. We all worked so hard as you can see from the photographs …

Resilience was another key theme at our Curriculum Evening last night. It was so lovely to see so many families sharing our learning with us and we enjoyed exploring our Jesuit virtues together! Thank you so much to those Year 6’s who came to help and support us, it is much appreciated.

Today, we have had another different day, where we have been very snuggly and warm in our PJ’s to raise money for Brian House- thank you so much for your donations!

Within class this week, although we have been struck with illness this week, we have continued working harder than ever, putting our resilience and readiness to good use. In Maths we have been looking closely at the structure of operations, using Cuisenaire rods to compare, make and discuss whether operations are a multiplicative or additive. In English this week we have compared and created a toolkit for writers of how to engage the audience in story openings, before writing our own story next week.

Art project - Mrs Neves, our art teacher, is running an art project across the school and needs your rubbish! She has asked over the next week, for Year 6 to bring in any bottle lids ( flat ones please i.e. milk lids ) and REAL pinecones ready to pain and decorate with.

Leading Learners

Well done to Amber and India this week.

Amber, you impress us every day with your enthusiasm, focus and determination in lessons. You have real ownership of your learning, using your initiative to catch up on any work missed when you were poorly and all in your own time. You are a pleasure to teach, with your quick wit, curious mind and polite manners- you never miss an opportunity to thank us or offer help.

India, you have kind and beautiful soul, where you quietly and humbly show compassion to those around you, always willing to offer a helping hand or offer a kind word. You work so cooperatively with who ever you work with; listening, offering your opinion sensitively and showing great focus.

Prophetic and Intentional butterflies

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are intentional with their actions, who make deliberate choices for the good of others. Those that are prophetic, who may stand up to injustice for the greater good even when it is difficult to do so. These children are the role models of the school, who may march to the beat of a different drummer, but who make a big difference not just to our class, but to our school. This week we thank Jack Frew.

This week we have been on the look out for dragons. So far in our learning we have discovered lots of different clues that could mean a dragon has been close by. In your homework book I would like you to record any new evidence you might find over the coming week.

You will need to draw what it is you have found, seen or heard and write a little bit about what it looked like or sounded like, where you discovered it and any other information that you think is important.

We can share all our findings together next week!

Year 1 Weekly Blog 18.11.22

This week we have been busy with lots of different science activities. We have: discussed signs of Autumn, have started a daily weather chart, used our senses on our Autumn walk, tasted crisps, labelled our body parts and even investigated if you are the oldest in the class you will also be the tallest, as you get taller as you age. We discovered that just because you are older, it does not mean you are taller. We all grow at different rates and because we are all unique, we are all different height. This also linked with our RHE lesson about our bodies. We have also picked our class tree to observe through all of the seaons.

In Maths we have been comparing objects and saying if they are longer or shorter, we have loved all the practical activities and comparing a range of objects.

Staurt Robinson

We loved Wednesday, we were inspired by gold medallist wheelchair rugby champion Stuart Robinson. We supported Year 2 and loved cheering and waving our flags to encourage them to keep going with the activities. We were very resilient and kept going even when we found it difficult and were hot and tired. Reception and Nursery then came in to support us while we completed our challenges.  After the whole school came together for an assembly, where Stuart told us his amazing story of his determination and bravery. We all agree that anything is possible is you put your mind to it and do not give up! Please can you bring in sponsor forms and money in on Monday, thank you :).

 We had our fourth KidSafe lesson this week. We discussed the importance of keeping our bodies safe and what to do if we have those yukky feelings. Please read the letter below to find out more.

Kidsafe session 4

We loved our PE session today we started our Gymnastic unit, we walked tall like gymnasts and performed a simple routine, four steps, a pencil roll, caterpillar walk and a jump. Miss Liddell and I were very impressed with the children’s routines.

Henry is going home with this person because they have has a super week at school, listened well during carpet input and tried their best.

This week I have started PE Superstars, these are awarded to children for working hard in their PE lessons. I will pick two children from each group, well done to these children for super routines and not giving up!
