Christmas is fast approaching and like every Advent, it is a time to just stop and reflect. During Wednesday Word this week, we discussed the stresses of Christmas and how we could just make a little time for ourselves during this busy time.

The class are continuing to make very pleasing progress with their reading. It is a rare day when we haven’y been able to spend 20-30 minutes of our day lost in a book. There is nothing nicer than seeing children lost in their imaginations!

Homework to be handed in Wednesday 11th December
Thank you so much for those who have completed the book reviews, they are wonderful and as soon as we have more in we will look at a good place to display them! We were extremely impressed with some of the creative paragraphs with the spellings of the week, especially as it helps the children to understand the meaning of the words and how they can be used in the right context.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT PREPARATION - Please make sure you are practicing and learning the songs ready for our Christmas concert.
READING- Continue to read lots of at home- I am so pleased with the progress the children are making, we need to keep this up!
If you haven’t already, please complete a book review for a book you are reading on purple mash, it will be under the 2do list section ready for you.
SPELLING- There are new spellings this week. Please learn the spellings as much as you can off by heart. See if you can design a picture in your homework book or on a blank piece of paper using the spellings. Look below for some examples.
Heart Special Remember Strength Appear Breath
MATHS - Please complete the IXL sections E5 and E6.
ENGLISH OPTIONAL HOMEWORK- Some of you just could not decide on the dragon you wanted to write about, so if you are feeling inspired and would like to, why not write a non-chronological report on the dragon of your choice or the one you didn’t get chance to write about. Try to use the vocabulary, sentence openers and connectives we have been using in class. I know some of you have already done this, which we have been extremely impressed with in class- we love how some of you go the extra mile with your work, well done!
Year 6 Home Learning - Wednesday 4th December

Over the past month, we have just danced and danced and danced! Have a look at what has been going on around the school.
Danceathon
It all started with our Dancethon where we danced from 8am through to 3:30pm - literally non stop! Throughout the day, all classes had a dance lesson with Miss Sarah and Miss Amy from Clifton Academy. This year we aimed to learn and tackle the Cha Cha Cha - Miss Hornby’s favourite! Thank you so much to our wonderful teachers - you made learning a challenging dance so much fun. Now that all the money has been collected and accounted for, we have managed to raise a staggering £1671 to replace part of the trim trail. Keep an eye on it over the next year! Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and families who came and danced with us in the morning. There was certainly lots of smiles on everyones faces.
Have a look at the video below to see our whole school come together for a big Cha Cha Cha in the afternoon!
Dance Festival
Every year, a group of committed dancers face a tough judging panel with the hope of being selected for the dance team. This year, 20 children were successful and trained really hard alongside Mrs Harrison and Miss Bassett week in, week out.
We could not have been prouder as the children took to the stage to perform Absolutely Everybody in front of a packed crowd. Children you were brilliant, your sheer enthusiasm was wonderful to see. We really look forward to seeing the team perform next year…I wonder what the theme will be?
Tudor Dancing at Samlesbury Hall
It is always nice to see what other classes are doing with dance around school. Not only have our Year 6 class been learning and creating their own Tudor style dance in school as part of their lessons, they headed off to Samlesbury Hall on a trip and performed in the great hall there. Never has a school done such a thing there and the staff were blown away. Why not watch the dance below…

Year 6 Blog - 'Adaptation is a profound process. It means that you figure out how best to thrive in the world.'
I think that Tuesday was one of my most favourite days that I have ever had as a teacher…ever! An hour and a half science lesson turned into a full day lesson that combined so many elements of the curriculum. The children were tasked with making a beak, using just tweezers, some paper, a paper clip and some tape. This beak had to be able to pick up worms and then adapt to pick up seeds and then fish. It was a great lesson in evolution and adaptation. When the environment around you changes, it is essential to adapt in order to survive - just like Charles Darwin’s Survival of the Fittest.

May we first say a massive well done to our dancers who were in the dance festival on Monday night. You danced your hearts out and did so well. Today has also been a celebration of all things musical as we went to the Parish Pantomime - Rumplestiltskin. Children had a brilliant time and joined in with so many songs. Some even had chance to go on the stage and sing. It was a super performance full of laughter and joy.
Highlights this week:
We are in full flow with our new novel - ‘Charlotte’s Web.’ Already we love Wilbur the pig and are learning important skills of inference and finding evidence in the text to prove a point. Today children made Advent promises to grow closer to Jesus this season and have created a poster, informing people all about how and why Christians celebrate Advent. Why not chat about this at the weekend? We have been wise mathematicians this week as we have been learning/revising lots more addition/subtraction strategies and thinking about when it is best to use them.
Let’s Celebrate!
This week our learning certificates (Sadie Spider) went to Jessica and Bella. Both of you are trying so hard to achieve and be perseverant learners - well done!
Our swimming stars this week were Olivia, Clayton and Jacob.
Our French star was Kaya and our Yoga stars were Victor and Emma. Well done!

"Be kind whenever possible..."
With our Nativity not long away, we have been busy rehearsing! The children were so excited to practise on the big stage, and they are itching to wear their costumes. We cannot wait to show you the children’s hard work. The children are performing their Nativity for Jesus and I am sure that you will see how much they love Him throughout their performance.
Certificates
Roger Robin Ciaran for.. being so caring towards others Ciaran. You always think of others and, when seeing someone upset, you are one of the first to give them a hug and to help them to feel happy again. Thank you Ciaran, for your kind actions and words, these always help to make our classroom a happy and caring place.
Cooper Crab Lily for… trying so hard this week to stay focused! We are so impressed with you Lily, you have grown so much during these past few weeks and seeing your improved self-control is wonderful! Your concentration has shone and really shows in your learning. Keep up this brilliant effort Lily!
Phonics
We have now learnt all of our initial sounds, and we are currently focusing on blending these sounds together to hear or read words. This skill is improving by the day, and the children have really worked hard to recognise the green and red words that were sent home earlier in the term. Please continue to practise reading and handwriting at home.
Nativity parts
Please continue to practise parts at home. Most of the children know when to say their lines but not everyone. This is the last weekend before our Nativity so we really need to make sure that everybody knows their line, can say it loudly and is able to add gestures where appropriate. Thank you for your co-operation.
Silly Sock and Christmas jumper day
On Friday 13th December we are asking children and teachers to wear their best Christmas jumper and silly socks. This is because Year 6 would like to raise £1,000 for Brian House. Please bring £1 to school on this day to help Year 6 reach their target. Thank you.
We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend together as a family.
Miss Bassett, Miss Neves and Mrs Malley
“Enthusiasm moves the world.”
It’s been another busy week of learning in Year 1! I’ve been so proud of the children who haven’t been feeling 100% but have been full of enthusiasm for learning nonetheless.

Another lovely week has passed again in Year 3. The highlight of the week had to be on Wednesday, when we joined a member of our class and her family at the very special occasion of her Baptism. The mass was beautiful and the children loved every minute of welcoming another member to our Christian Family. Afterwards the conversation that was had in the classroom was wonderful, as I could see all that we had learnt about this sacrament and its symbols from the previous half term- well done Year 3 and thank you for being so supportive and reverent.
Lots of learning has also taken place this week, continuing our focus on addition in Maths, especially looking at number bonds. Each day this week we have worked together to produced a paragraph towards our non-chronological report on the Thunder Dragon and then the children have then used this structure to write their own paragraph on the Sun-Blazer Dragon. It has been lovely to see how the children have used their creativity but also following a structure that works to help plan and format their own ideas and writing. The outcome has been very impressive- I can’t wait to see what they produce next week in their independent piece. In RE we have been pulling apart the prayer ‘The Hail Mary’ and learning about the meaning of each of the words and then the incarnation, focusing on how Jesus is both divine and human- the children’s depth of comments never cease to amaze us.
The awards this week go to …
Thank you Esme for your much improved focus in class, immersing yourself in your reading and offering in depth comments in RE.
Saul you have been such a Kiki Chameleon- well done for showing your creativity in your writing!

"Advent is a journey towards Bethlehem, may we let ourselves be drawn by the light of God made man!"
My goodness, that’s another busy week done and dusted in Year 2! The children have been incredibly busy finishing and editing their ‘Who’s afraid of the big bad book?’ stories this week, which I can’t wait to sit down and read this weekend. I can’t quite believe just how much more independent the class have become when writing, and how their confidence has grown when spelling tricky words and using punctuation in the correct places.
