Our journey towards Year 1 continues.

Today has been another action packed day full of learning and fun. This morning, we continued with our Read Write Inc story books, developing our reading skills. We have made our very own worry monsters and put forward ideas to Miss Lane as to what it’s name could be. Having had a little preview into one of the Science topics, we came up with an Animal Alphabet with an assortment of animals, both well known and rare. We have also, thought about and shared our hopes for Year 1, thinking about how we would like to grow. The focus in P.E this week is the fundamental skills, today we have looked at throwing over arm and under arm. It was fabulous to see so many of the children hitting the targets. Terrific throwing Reception, well done!

Hopes for next year

Yesterday we thought about faith-filled and hopeful. Today we would like you to think about what you hope for next year when you are in Year 3.

This is what the Year 3 teachers hope for:

We hope that we will all be together as a school family again sharing God’s love and growing to be more like Jesus. We hope that we can all have a wonderful year of learning where everyone is kind and generous with each other. We hope for happiness and happy times.

Login to Purple Mash and create a poster (it’s set as a 2Do) of all of your hopes for next year. (Everyone in school is doing this and we are going to use them on a display in the hall.) Make sure that you save it so that we can see what your hopes are.

Class Charter

As you know it is really important that wherever we are we behave in the best way possible. This not only keeps ourselves safe and happy, but others safe and happy too. To do this we often have to follow certain rules or guidelines to make sure that this happens.

When we get back to school in September it is really important that we make each other happy and keep each other safe.

Today we would like you to think very carefully about what we will all need to do on a daily basis around the classroom and in school to keep everyone safe and happy.

Can you think carefully about the rules/guidelines that we will all need to follow. Send us an email on Purple Mash with your suggestions for our class rules. (Go into tools and then to 2Email. You need to click on the envelope with a + sign and then write your email to us.  Miss Edmondson’s email name is Miss Edmondson and Miss Brisco’s is LBrisco.

Summer Reading Challenge

We would like you to try to join the summer reading challenge at the library this year. This is all done online this year because of Covid-19.

You can join the “Silly Squad” by pressing the button below and following the instructions.

You need to get your Mum or Dad to help you with this as they need to give their email address. You will also need to think of a username and password—remember to keep these somewhere safe and don’t share them outside of your family.

Once you have done that we would like you to click on the button below and follow the instructions for making a corner bookmark. You can make your bookmark into a monster or an owl, like the lady does on the video or you can scroll down the side of the video and see what some of the other videos show - we spotted a tiger, a Pokemon, a panda, a rabbit and even a watermelon, as well as lots more.

Use your book mark when you are reading over the summer. You could even make another one and keep it safe to use on your reading book when you get back to school in September!

PE

Remember we need to make sure that we are keeping active so why not go for a walk, or a bike ride or a run, or do some yoga, or go on the trampoline or set up a fitness circuit with star jumps and press ups, spotty dog jumps and skipping etc. Or you could do the PE challenge which has been posted by Mrs Gregan on the PE page of website. You choose, have fun!

Extra optional activities

Have a look at IXL maths and see which units you have not completed yet for Year 2. Try to complete as many of these as you can before September.

Read for 30 minutes each day and then take a quiz on Accelerated Reader. See if you can reach your target before the end of the term. Let us know the name of your favourite author and/or your favourite book. Maybe you could even write a book review on Purple Mash.

Practise your handwriting and make sure that you can form and join all of your letters correctly in the cursive style we use in school. Click on the button below to check on the correct formation of letters.

Be brave like Tommy Turtle and co-operative like Roger Robin.

School’s Mission Statement - ‘You are precious in my eyes’

As we all know, we are all precious in God’s eyes and are all incredibly unique and special! Today, I would like you all to think about how you are special and precious … what makes you YOU?! Draw a picture of yourself and surround it with all of your talents and the qualities that make you unique. Did God give you the gift of honesty? Did he give you the gift of humour? Do you enjoy singing and dancing? Think really carefully and celebrate how special we all truly are!

Our Year 2 class rules and expectations

When we start school in September, we will be sitting down and creating our class rules and expectations together. Today I would you to think carefully about what our class rules should be and how we can create a happy, calm and loving classroom environment.
Look at the image below and print off if possible.

Have you ever felt like any of the Blobs in the image? Which Blobs are making the right choices? Which are not? Which Blob do you aspire to be like in September? If you could give a colour for each feeling and emotion, what colours would the Blobs be? Would some be red for angry? Would some be blue for sad? Would any be yellow for happy? If you are able to print the image, colour the Blobs in their feeling colours.
Now have a go at writing a list of classroom rules and expectations. What would you like others to see if they came into our classroom?

Activity 1: Getting to know you.

If you could be a superhero, who would you be?

Today, I have set you a 2do in Purple mash called ‘If I was a Superhero…’

Read the prompts in the 2do to help you create this poster. You could make up your own superhero and give it a name!

When you have done it, you could even dress up as the superhero you have created!

Activity 2 - Our Learning Skills - Self belief and Enthusiasm.

I’m so sorry Year 3 - I did not realise the sound didn’t work on Cooper Crab’s video yesterday!!! I hope you still managed to read the story and concentrate!

Activity 3. What we learn in Year 4 - History.

In Year 4, we love history - just like Bobby Bee! I know you have already learned lots of history at our school. You learned about The Great Fire of London. You have learned about Florence Nightingale. In Year 3 you found out about some of the earliest history of OUR country - The Stone Age, the Celts and the Romans.

I would love you to tell me all about your favourite part of history and give me some information about it. It could be something from above. Or it might be about a famous person from the past or a different famous event. It might be about a famous king or queen. It can be any aspect of history at all!

I have set you a 2do called My History Book. Don’t forget to add images. You could look at the clip art first to get ideas about what aspects of history you could pick.

Let's Learn at Home - Endless possibilities

The term ‘endless possibilities’ evolved from the Effective Provision of Preschool Education (EPPE) research and involves two or more individuals working together to solve a problem, clarify a concept or evaluate activities. It requires all participants to contribute to the thinking, which should be extended.

Sustained shared thinking is best described as those times when an adult is totally absorbed with a child, in conversation or in an activity with a genuine interest on both parts to find out more. Sustained shared thinking can happen anytime, anywhere and only requires time and interest on the part of the participants.

Our first Science topic after the Summer holidays is Plants. Mrs Lyons loves plants as you know!

I would like you today to find a flower or tree and do a detailed observational drawing of it. I hope the weather is nice so you can go outside to draw! If not, you could take a photo of the plant or find one on the internet. You can colour it too. If you want to draw more than one, that is fine too.

As you can see, this week is slightly different, as I (Miss Woodend) am taking over your learning page to get to know you a little more. This means that next year …. I am going to be your new Year 2 teacher! I am so excited!

Getting to know you!

Below I have attached a getting to know you sheet just like the one I used in the video. Please complete your sheet, thinking really carefully about all of your favourite things. This will help me to get to know you even more! If you are unable to print out the sheet, you could draw your own or create a poster and include all of your favourite things using the headings to help you. Once finished, take a photograph and send it to my email address. I can’t wait to find out all about you all!

Faith-Filled and Hopeful

During our time at home over the last couple of months, we have all had to put our trust in God and be as full of faith and hope as we possible could be in such different and difficult times. Therefore, the teachers at school decided that the best virtues to focus upon during the last two weeks of home learning would be faith-filled and hopeful.

Activity 1 - Walking by faith
1 person is to be blindfolded whilst another guides them from one point to another without bumping into anything. Before blindfolding, the guider will ask “Do you trust me to guide you? Do you have faith in yourself and in me to get from here to there without being able to see where you’re going? I will be with you for the journey and guide you along the way. Are you ready?”
The guider then guides the blindfolded person from point A to B. To make it more difficult, can the guider use only verbal directions?

Now discuss. How is this similar to following God? How is this like our spiritual walk in faith? Why do you think the Bible calls our spiritual life a ‘walk’? In what ways does God guide us? Is everyone’s journey the same? What ONE step will you take this week in your spiritual walk? Write this in your books or create an image on Purple Mash.

Welcome to Year 3! Monday 6th July 2020. Meet your new teachers.

Good morning children and welcome to “Transition Week”.

This week we are going to be doing a variety of activities that will help us all to get to know each other a little better and to get ready for when you are in Year 3.

Next year the Year 3 team will be Miss Edmondson, Miss Brisco and Miss Woodrow. We are really looking forward to working with you and helping you to learn lots of new and exciting things.

Next year we will be really thinking about how we can make our brains grow even bigger and get even better at learning. We will be focusing on all of the learning characters and thinking about what we have to do to be more like each one of them.

We would like you to login to Purple Mash and use the “All About Me” template (it’s set as a 2Do) to create a fact file all about you.

We would like you to write and add pictures to tell us all about you.

You might want to tell us about your family and pets, your hobbies, what you like to do or what you have been doing since you were last in school etc.

Tell us about things that make you, you! Remember we are all precious in God’s eyes, but because we are all so special to Him, He made everyone of us a little bit different from everyone else. What makes you special and different from everyone else?

Please remember to save this so that we can have a look at it.

Faith-filled and Hopeful

When we return to school our virtues will be Faith-filled and Hopeful. What do these mean to you? How can you show that you are faith-filled and hopeful?

We would like you to create a piece of work (on an A4 sheet of paper) of what these mean to you.

You can show this in any way you like - you might want to decorate your work, once it is done keep it in a really safe place and keep it flat. We want you to bring it back to school in September so that we can use it then.

Pebbles

You will need a pebble for one of the activities later on in the week, so you will need to look out for one when you are out and about today. It doesn’t have to be huge but not too small either! Just a pebble that you have spotted and like the look of. (You might even want to get a couple of pebbles). More about that later on in the week.
