Welcome to Year 5 2026!

A very warm welcome to all our children and families as we begin an exciting new school year in Year 5!

I hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful summer break and are feeling refreshed, ready, and enthusiastic about the adventures ahead. Year 5 is a fantastic year filled with exciting learning opportunities, new challenges, and plenty of memorable experiences. We have lots to look forward to, from engaging topics and creative projects to developing new skills and growing in confidence.

As we start this journey together, I would like to encourage all children to come to school each day with a positive attitude, ready to work hard and challenge themselves. Year 5 is an important stage in your learning journey, and I know that every child has the potential to achieve great things. There may be times when learning feels challenging, but it is through resilience, determination, and a willingness to step outside our comfort zones that we make the most progress. I am excited to see everyone embrace new opportunities and aim high throughout the year.

This year is also a special one for me. I am delighted to be starting a new chapter in a different year group and am incredibly pleased that this wonderful class will be the first group to join me on that journey. Both Mrs Tierney and myself, are looking forward to getting to know each and every child, celebrating their successes, supporting them through challenges, and creating a classroom environment where everyone feels valued, encouraged, and inspired to do their very best.

Together, we will make Year 5 a year filled with learning, laughter, achievement, and growth. I cannot wait to see what we accomplish as a team. Here's to a fantastic year ahead!

Getting organised …

Our virtues for our first half term will be Loving and Compassionate. These will be at the core of everything we do in school and we are always looking out for children who display these characteristics. These will be important for our class councilor votes that will be taking place in the coming weeks.

Don’t forget to come equipped with your own pencil cases, making sure you have all you need in there but please make sure they are small enough to fit in your chair covers or trays at the end of the day- any that are too big will be sent home.

Indoor PE days will be on a Thursday. On these days you need to make sure you wear tracksuits but also have a pair of shorts either under your trousers or in your bag to get changed in to. We don’t wear trainers during indoor PE, but if there are any issues with this then I must be informed by an adult. Our first lesson will be on our first day back on Thursday 3rd September.

Outdoor PE is on a Friday, our first one is on Friday 4th September.

Art is on a Thursday- please remember to bring in your art tops to stop your uniform from getting paint on- we will keep this in our trays.

Homework- will go out on Tuesday afternoons and will be due in the following Monday. Please support us in this process to ensure children complete their homework and hand it in on time. We are trying to prepare them for Year 6 (and also high school) and taking responsibility and accountability is one of the best ways we can do this- we don’t want this to be such a shock next year.

Induction Night - Wednesday 9th September 3:45pm & 4:45pm. This is your chance to see Year 5 classroom for yourself, discover more about the exciting opportunities and topics that they will be learning during their time in Year 5 and we can answer any questions you may have!

Welcome to Year 4 class of 2026!

Wishing all children and parents of Year 4 a big welcome to the new academic year. I hope you have all had a lovely Summer and are raring to go! Year 4 is jam packed with excitement, trips, challenges and lots of magical moments that I cannot wait to experience with you.

Please bring bundles of enthusiasm, an attitude of gratitude and a hard-working spirit to school with you each day. I look forward to helping you grow as learners and as people, developing new skills and reaching new heights.

The children are lucky to be keeping Mrs Carter this year - it is always nice to begin the year with a familiar face. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you and promise to create an environment where we are all precious in each others’ eyes!

For Year 4, you will need:

Your own pencil case which needs to be normal sized so it can fit into our chair pouches, Please DO NOT bring any of your own stationery as we already have all your pens, pencils, rubbers etc ready with your names on.

Outdoor PE is on a Tuesday, our first one is on Tuesday 8th September.

Art is also on a Tuesday- please remember to bring in your art t-shirts to stop your uniform from getting paint on- we will keep this in our trays.

Induction evening will take place on Wednesday 9th September. This is where you can find out all about life in Year 4 and it is a lovely opportunity for us to meet properly. This is just for parents to attend and there are two slots - 3:45pm & 4:45pm. Please come and see all the exciting things we have planned!

Here are the parental and medical forms which need to be completed as soon as possible please. This really helps us to make sure we know important things about your child before we begin. Please fill in the medical form even if you child does not have a medical condition.

Year 3 2026-2027

I hope that you are all having a wonderful summer holiday. The weather has certainly helped; I cannot remember a summer quite like it.

I just wanted to update you all on two things ready for the children coming back in a couple of weeks.

You will be aware that Miss Drummond was unwell last year and has been absent from school since Easter. Whilst she has been recovering at home in this period, she has informed us that she is not well enough to return to school for the start of the academic year in September and will require some additional time off. We continue to send her our best wishes and our prayers - hoping that she will be back with us soon.

When a key member of the staff team is off, especially as we head into a new academic year, my absolute priority is getting someone in place to ensure that the children feel settled and welcomed as they start their new year group. Having a familiar teacher in place is absolutely essential. I am delighted that Miss Brookes will be joining us and taking charge of Year 3 in Miss Drummond’s absence. The children know Miss Brookes incredibly well as she taught them in the final term of Year 2 as she completed her teaching qualification. She can literally hit the ground running with them; she is so very excited and has done a wonderful job of getting the classroom ready. Miss Brookes is the perfect teacher for this role and we are very lucky to welcome her to our class team. All of the teachers will be writing a welcome blog in the coming weeks so I will let Miss Brookes take over then. I know you will all support her and welcome her formally to Our Ladys.

Secondly, you will be aware of the closure of St Annes Swimming Pool, which now appears to be closed for some time. Year 3 is our school swimming year and St Annes is the swimming pool that we use; infact, all of the schools in our cluster use it. As a team of Headteachers, we have been trying to problem-solve what we can do to ensure that our children keep swimming as the information from Fylde came to us quite late. We are currently in the process of working with Palatine Swimming Pool in Blackpool to see if they have a slot in which they can accommodate us; which we think they do. This is just taking some time to organise the logisitcs. As soon as we have a plan, we will let you know when the children will be swimming. The curriculum requirement is that all children should be able to swim 25m by the end of primary school; we want to do that as soon as possible, given where we live. If your child does not have swimming lessons, I wuld urge you to get them swimming as soon as possible then as soon as we have a school swimming plan, it will help the children further.

I am really looking forward to welcoming the children back in September. Enjoy the last few weeks of your Summer!

Our school ... our class ... is richer because of you

What an emotional but beautiful week we have had in Year 6. It is always sad to say goodbye, but my goodness, are they all so ready to spread their wings and fly at High School! It has been such a privilege to have taught Year 6 this year and we have loved every minute being with them on their magical journey. They have risen to every challenge, worked their socks off and showed so much love and compassion along the way. They will all be greatly missed by everyone at Our Lady’s.

It has been a week of celebrations and goodbyes. After a beautiful leavers mass for our Year 6 and Mrs Cornwell, Miss Lavelle, Mrs Marshall and Mrs Carragher, the next day we made our way to complete our crazy golf, chippy lunch and then to the beach! The ice cream’s Mrs Gregan treated us to were also wonderful. We had so much fun altogether! These photos are just fabulous - enjoy them!

Today was a perfect way to end their primary school journey … this morning we had a beautiful celebration assembly, where we truly celebrated each year 6 child and their journey.

Finally, the Year 6 team would like to thank you all for your continuous trust and support throughout the year. We have loved reading all the children’s cards and kind words and really appreciate the gifts we have received, although the real gift has been to teach all of your beautiful children. Thank you.

Final Year 5 Blog of the Year 17.07.26

Wow! What a final week of Year 5, a final week of teaching for myself and what a year these children have had. I could write endless essays about these children and the year we have had, which is why I have written a thank you letter in each of the children’s gift bags. The week we have had has been action-packed! The first two days (and nights) of our week were fixated on the end of year play- hosted by Year 6. The children thrived in their roles and really enjoyed performing infront of a large audience- this has made the teachers very excited for next years play for when they take the lead. From the day the children walked through the door in September, they were set a class reading challenge by the previous Year 5 class (you may have seen this on the door during pick ups). As of last week, the children surpassed their target and ended the year with a total of 16,074,914 words read based on quizzes from Accelerated Reader- a fantastic group achievement. Because of this, we took the class out to Hope Street Park yesterday afternoon for an extended break time. The children played football, ran down zip lines, swung back and fourth and just had fun in the sun!

From myself and Miss Johnson (soon to be Mrs Austin), we would like to thank all you children and parents for the most amazing year together and we wish you the most amazing summer and for a brilliant year ahead in Year 6.

Year 1's final weekly blog of the year 17.7.26!

What can we say?! It has been an absolute gift to teach your children this year. It is truly such a blessing to welcome their smiley faces each morning, hear the lastest updates about all of the wonderful things that they have been up to and to be a part of their primary school journey!

We have had a busy final week together and a huge thank you for all of the generous donations towards our CAFOD fundraiser! The children definitely earnt their donations as lots and lots of walking took place!

We also shared a wonderful prayer and liturgy with our Year 5 partners…

Today has been full of celebration and happy tears! We started the day with our Star Charter assembly which was just brilliant! There really is so much to celebrate!

We would also like to say the biggest thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your very kind and generous gifts, we are overwhelmed and extremally grateful!

It's been an amazing year...

It’s always difficult to say goodbye at the end of the school year. It has been a truly fantastic year and all the nursery team could not be more proud of each and every child in nursery. Learning this year has been at an optimal level and the children are now ready to continue their journey into Reception.

Each child throughout the year has nurtured and grown their relationship with Jesus…we really are ‘Team Jesus’. We have become something greater than ourselves. We are part of a team that is led by the Saviour Himself and we recognise how each and every one of us plays a vital role in His plan.

On behalf of the nursery ladies I would like to say an enormous thank you to YOU, the parents, grandparents who have made this year a success. You have trusted us with most treasured possessions and that has enabled us to work our magic. It has been such a privilege to work alongside your child, they will remain in our hearts forever, Thank you.

Celebration Party

Such a wonderful day, everyone embraced the superhero theme and had a jolly good time. We played splat Spiderman, superhero tin can alley, musical bumps, musical statues, musical ‘pick up’ and did lots and lots of dancing! Finally we all got water bombed by someone…we think it must have been Evil Pea!!!!

We had ice lollies for snack because it was sooo very hot and in the afternoon we made popcorn and had a movie afternoon, we were exhausted! Such FUN!!!!

It just remains for me to say another massive ‘thank you’ for all the cards, kind words and gifts that you given so generously, it has been our pleasure and we will watch carefully their progress through school.

Year 4 Weekly Blog Friday 17th July ."Ask and seek and your heart will grow big enough to receive God." (St Teresa)

What a beautiful final week. The children have been busy! They have been mastering money in maths, performing poetry in English and showing their sporting prowess in Sports Day on Wednesday. We also watchedthe Yr6 performance of Robin Hood which was brilliant!

I want to thank you and your children for all the kind gifts and meaningful messages of gratitude. I love my vase - now to try to bring my garden flowers back to life! But most of all, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the beautiful gift of your children. It truly means so much to be able to touch their lives briefly and I will miss each and every one of them. They have absolutely smashed it this year and have bloomed into such beautiful flowers!

Let’s Celebrate!

This week, the class voted for their certificate winner and star. They chose Freddie for our certificate winner, demonstrating so many learning qualities. The key word was improvement - improved listening, focus and being a really kind friend. All in all Freddie, just a lovely person who has grown so much.

The class chose for our curious and active star Xander. They commented on your improved focus and how active you have been at getting down to all your tasks. They again mentioned how much you have improved this year and I am glad they recognised it - as I do too. You actively make choices to help yourself now Xander and you are AMAZING!

All that is left to say is have a glorious Summer with your beautiful children. Thank you.

Have an amazing fun filled, action packed summer holiday!

And so another school year draws to a close, I cannot believe how fast it has flown by! Our second year as a club has been a terrific success, thank you so much for your support in making our new venture so. Your kindness and generosity of donations, has been so greatly appreciated, thank you.                

      The children have had so much fun, enjoying everything from arts and crafts, a good board game to relaxing with a good book. Being a child led club, the possibilities have been endless as new games have been created, equipment used to enhance roleplay and of course sporting activities a plenty. Whatever the children have chosen to do, they have done so with love and compassion in their hearts for one another. Friendships have been forged that will last and memories made.

We hope you have a wonderful summer holiday full of fun and adventure.

Forest School "Come Dine with Me"

What a fantastic half term it has been! The children have been absolutely amazing with their collaborative skills in planning their three-course campfire banquet! They truly out did themselves with the teamwork involved in creating their menus. Mrs Tierney and myself were so proud of the delicious meals created. It was so lovely to spend time with the children chatting about memories and aspirations for the future as the food was cooking. It is so very rare in the busy school schedule to have moments like these, with memories created on the spot.

And so, to the end of the school year. It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of your childs journey throughout their school life at Our Lady’s. I wish Year 6 every success for the future and may their creativity shine through.

Soft Toy

What a fantastic term we have had! The skill of needlecraft is one of the most, trickiest skills to master. Your children have been so resilient and determined to complete their toy. From planning, creating their own template, adding embelishments, such as applique and running stitch. To learning the skill of blanket stitch. The children were fantastic and produced amazing work, I am so proud of them!

And so to the end of the year and how it has flown! It has been an absolute pleasure joining the children on their creative journey. From building bridges to bolognaise, every moment has been fantastic! I look forward to teaching them all again next year.

What a wonderful term we have had, I cannot believe how quickly it has gone! It has been such a calm, creative time with the children. We have refined our skills by thinking deeply about tone, using different levels of pressure to create light and dark with pencil crayons, producing quality observational drawings of chocolate! We explored the realm of proportion and how it can be used to create comical art as well as the importance in more tradition artwork. We finally thought about composition and how important how aesthetically pleasing pieces encourage imagination and draws a person in.

And so to the end of year, it has been an absolute pleasure to explore the world of art and DT with your children, their progress and attention to detail has been outstanding. To watch them grow in all their artistic traits. I cannot wait to see how they fly next year!

Pnuematic Toy

What a super term we have had! The beauty of Design Technology is that we delve into so many subjects to enable creativity to flow. In this topic, we delved into the world of pneumatics to help us understand how certain machinery and vehicles work. Armed with this knowledge, the children let their creative juices flow to design a pneumatic toy that moves. In this case a moving monster or animal that can open its mouth. The children were elated when the finished product worked! They were so proud of themselves, as I was too.

And so, to the end of another year, my how it has flown by! It has been an absolute pleasure teaching the children and I for one, cannot wait to see how they fly next year!

Cooking and Nutrition-Wraps

What a fantastic term we have had! I cannot believe how quickly it has flown by! This half term, we have focussed on Cooking and Nutrition. We have Learned about the 5 food groups and what it means to have a balanced diet.  Together we have planned and made a healthy wrap. Thank you for your support in this, it is truly appreciated. Th e wraps were very well thought out, containing the groups of carbs, protein, dairy and fruit and veg. I hope they enjoyed them!

And so we come to the end of another year and what a year has been! It has been an absolute pleasure to teach your children this year, they have come so far in their creative planning and final artworks. I am so very proud of them and it has been an absolute pleasure teaching them. I look very much to teaching them again next year, where we can grow our skills and creative minds together.
