We can’t wait to welcome you ack on Tuesday. Please watch the video below together to find out about procedures and other information. There are a couple of parent tasks to do too!
Welcome to nursery
Barbara, Clare, Colette, Sarah, Frances and Rowan are very busy this week making sure everything is ready for the children to start nursery on Tuesday. We are all excited about meeting everyone and are keen to start learning again.
It would be helpful if everyone had read the ‘information for September opening’ on the previous post before Tuesday to ensure that you are clear about the guidelines that have been put in place to keep everyone safe. I am sure you will understand that entry into nursery may be a little slower than in previous years, so please bear with us.
During the period of time that nursery has been closed our families kept in touch via emails. In September we will continue this process. Please email me using this address: b.draper@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk or telephone on our direct line 01253 739617. I will get back to as soon as I can.
Finally, as it will be difficult to share group learning with you we thought it would be nice for nursery to post photographs of the children each week on our web page. To enable me to do this I will need your written permission. If you could email me your consent that would be great!
It just remains for me to say, have a fabulous bank holiday weekend and I will see you on Tuesday.
Barbara

Here’s another story about the GIGANTIC bear. I hope you like it!
Sadly this will be the last story of the summer term. I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed doing them for you. It’s been such a lovely way to stay in touch.
The last ‘Let’s Learn at Home’ booklet is scheduled to come live on Monday 27th July.
Finally, I would like to say thank you to everyone for their support through what has been a most difficult time. I feel saddened that we couldn't finish our year of learning and fun all together, but I look forward to seeing you all in Reception in September.
I hope you all have the most splendid summer and please do keep safe.
Barbara
Information for September Opening
Dear Parents,
As you will be aware over the last two terms the whole of the country has been living through a very difficult time as families have experienced lockdown measures. Within school and Nursery we have had to plan and implement rigorous risk assessment procedures in an attempt to create the safest possible environment for both children and staff.
The government has now issued further guidance for schools and early years settings as they welcome all children back in September.
Our normal practice in Nursery would to welcome our new Nursery families in June with an Induction Morning and home visits. I feel very sad that this important process has had to take place virtually but thank you for your engagement, patience and feedback.
This is such a strange time for us all and as we return in September unfortunately parents will still not be able to enter the school grounds. All communication will need to take place via email or through phone calls. Any appointments must be scheduled and organised so that they can take place implementing social distancing protocol. I appreciate this is far from ideal and I pray that we will be able to return to a more normal practice soon.
I would encourage you to keep checking the Nursery page of the school website (this can be found by clicking the ‘Learn’ button at the top of the ‘Discover’ page) as any updates and current information will always be communicated in a timely manner.
Please use the four buttons below to access the Nursery Opening Plan for September and the detailed guidance. You may also want to visit the Discover Page of the website to access the schools guidance in the final newsletter of this term.
We are all very excited to begin working with your children and yourselves; please trust that we will welcome your children as the ‘precious gifts’ from God that they are…

And here we are. This year has certainly been a roller coaster on emotions and events, which when we look back at them can only make us stronger. This week we have reflected on the past 17 weeks which each child telling me what they have learnt about themselves. I cannot tell you how humbling this experience was. The children have all learnt just how independent and resilient that they can actually be…they can definitely be the change they want to see in the world.

Well Reception, you’ve done it!! You’ve completed your Reception Year and what a good job you have made of it. You really have been enthusiastic Bobby Bees and fantastic Cooper Crabs too. You’ve learned how to be resilient like Sadie Spider and brave like Tommy Turtle. Looking at all the work that you have done you’ve been creative like Kiki Chameleon and asked no end of questions, just like Clara Clownfish. This has made you constantly improve like Lizzie Ladybird and I know that you have all being super duper co-operative Roger Robins too. All in all, you have been amazing and you have made us all so proud of you. Well done everyone!
It’s been a bit of a strange year and I’m sure that none of us anticipated it ending like it has. We would like to thank all of the people who have helped you at home during Lockdown so that you could continue with your learning. They have been brilliant - we really could not have done it without all of them, so please say a great big “THANK YOU” from all of us.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all again in September when we get back to school but in the meantime, we hope that you all have a well earned rest and a lovely summer holiday.

Today has been beautiful, nothing short of beautiful. The children have spent a day in prayer and reflection, considering what our interpretation of ‘You are precious in my eyes really is.’

Well, we have made it to the end of the school year and what a funny one it has been! When you started the Year with Mrs Harrison who would have thought that we would end the year with Miss Edmondson and Miss Brisco setting daily work from their sofas or kitchen tables! All those videos and emails filmed and sent backwards and forwards, the texts and even phone calls to celebrate how well you have all done.
The Year 3 team has grown and changed but from all of us we want to say a big well done and thank you, it has been fun and a learning curve for us all. You are amazing!
Tomorrow there will be a whole school blog of challenges so please make sure you check that out.
We say ‘Goodbye for now’ and we will look forward to seeing you back at school in September, enjoy your long and hopefully hot summer holidays. Be kind, be happy and be wonderful!
Lot of love
The Year 3 team.

Year 2 Home Learning - Thursday 16th July
Good Morning Year 2!
Well, this is it! We have reached the end of our year together, and what a year it has been! Tomorrow, the whole school will be completing the same activities so that we can celebrate the end of the year as a whole school community.
Although this year hasn’t been as we would have expected, I couldn’t be more proud of you ALL. Both your learning in school and at home has shown just how far you have come, how much you have grown, and what independent and confident learners you are becoming. You all amaze me with your determination and resilience. Although this year may have been tough, you never once gave up and continued to shine like the stars that you are.
Not only are you precious in God’s eyes, but you all truly are precious in MY eyes! I wish you all the best of luck for Year 3, but I know you will be fine and are going to love the new challenges you will face. I will most certainly be popping in to see you all as soon as I can.
Here are today’s activities
Enjoy listening to the story below - ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson
In the story, Spinderella learns an important lesson. Can you think what it might be?
Now I would like you to reflect upon the personal qualities and skills that you have developed throughout your time in Year 2. Think about our learning characters. Do you feel like Year 2 has helped you to grow more determined? Do you feel that you are now a kinder and more loving friend?
Use the flower template to record your reflections on. You could put your name in the middle and add your ideas to the petals, or you could add your idea to the middle and colour the petals. It is up to you!

Usually, during the summer holidays, lots of you complete the library reading challenge. As everything is a little different this year, they are running the challenge online. Click the link below to sign up for the challenge (you will need a grown up’s email address).
To help with your choosing of books, I have attached a list of books that are great for Year 2 children. I know that you are very soon to be Year 3, but I thought it would be nice to see how many you have read already and if you could challenge yourself to read them all before September! Some we have already read in school!
Happy Reading!
Year 3, photos of this week and some memories
I wonder if any of you have grown since the beginning of the year, have a look back at some photos from earlier in the year and any photos you have sent this week.
Enjoy!
