Easter Assembly- Wednesday 1st April

Children have been given their scripts for our holy week preparations. Make sure to practice your lines and to really focus on the expressing this with emotion.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 06.03.26- ‘Indeed, the water I give them will well them up to eternal life’

What a week it has been in Year 5 this week! Ranging from school trips, inspections, planters and world day of prayer, we have been kept busy. Thursday was a huge day for our school as we celebrated Catholic life through prayer, worship and our RE curriculum in the presence of the diosese. We came together as a class for our worship on this coming weeks gospel reading- where we looked at the importance of water and where it is found within the Bible. During our RE lessons, we have been recapping on prior knowledge of sin and the commandments in order to link these together.

Thursday was also an iconic day as it was also World Book Day! The theme this year was ‘your reading identity’ and the children certaintly let theirs shine through their costume and choice of books. We gathered together in the hall to talk about the greatest, and also most read book in the world, our Holy Bible as we shared some of the stories as a whole school. In the afternoon, we linked up with our buddy class to share our reading identities and to endulge in the joy of reading alongside others.

On Wednesday, we took a trip to Preston to visit the Science department at UCLAN for a day all about the Solar System. We were thrown straight into lots of learning and practical experiments as we transformed into scientists with our lab coats, safety goggles and gloves. The children all came home on Wedneday with some of the paper tasks that we carried out during the day.

And finally! To finish our week, we had a combination of ‘Love Yourself Day’ and ‘World Day of Prayer’. Lots of children braced the harsh weathers for our annual ‘People We Love Planters’ session, in which I’m hoping many of you parents would have recieved a planter gift from your children. For CAFOD’s World Day of Prayer, they have started in Nigeria this year, in which we had a Q and A session with the lovely Isioma, who enlightened us with what life is like in Nigeria.

Conversation starters

Science- We did lots of practical experiments and learned lots of new interesting facts about the planets of our Solar System. Tell your parents something new that you have learned from our trip to UCLAN.

RE- How many stories do you know in the Bible that include water? We had a lovely worship on Thursday all about water. The children could recite lots of famous stories in the bible that involve water. How many do your parents know?

Let’s Celebrate

Virtue Star: George Lett

You have been so intentional with your actions since coming back from half term George. You have reflected on your own personal targets within the classroom and have showed the right attitude and work ethic througout lessons. You were so prophetic during our morning of RE on Thursday by contributing so much throughout our worship and lesson.

Learner of the Week: Jackson

I knew that Wednesday’s Solar System trip would be right up your street Jackson. I loved how enthudsiastic you were about all of the different elements of the day and how engaged you were throughout all of our practicals. You came into the day with so much knowledge about this topic and it was amazing to see you shine infront of the university teachers leading the lessons.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 6.3.26 - "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God." - John 4:7-12

In this weeks Gospel we have listened to the time when Jesus met a Samaritan women at the well and their encounter. We discovered that in those times, Jews would not have spoken to Samaritans and how this scripture highlights God’s love for everybody. God doesn’t have favourites, we are all precious in His eyes. We focused our attention to the living water that Jesus speaks of and how this is a sign of everything Jesus offers us. Water is a sign of life, a fresh start and it draws us closer to God.

Going deeper in conversation

Water is a special symbol in our faith. Can you find out how many times water features in the bible? How does Jesus use the water? What does He use it for? How does it help others?

Magic moments

There really are SO many magic moments from this week. It has been jam packed with lots of wonderful memories made; we have planted beautiful flowers for our gardens, celebrated World Prayer Day and paid close attention to CAFOD and their focus this Lent, and of course World Book day! It was so wonderful to hear the children share their story books with their Year 5 partners! Please enjoy the photos!

Let’s Celebrate

A huge well done to Arla who has been awarded our concentration certificate this week. Arla you are such a wonderful learner. You try so hard and concentrate so carefully in every area of your learning.

A huge well done to Archie who has received the Star Virtue award this week. Archie you have spoke with such intention this week understanding that our words can make a difference to others. On Wednesday you spoke prophetically about our school, sharing some of the special memories that you have and the wonderful ways we help God’s world.

We are so proud of you both!

Reminders

PE days: As we began the new half term our PE days have changed. Our outside PE will continue to be on a Monday afternoon, however indoor is now on Wednesdays. Thank you!

Book Fair: Our school book fair will be held afterschool from Wednesday 11th March - Wednesday18th March.

Own clothes day: On Monday 23rd March we will be having an Own clothes day. We ask for an Easter egg donation on this day to help us with our annual Easter Egg raffle (one of the most egg-xciting parts of the year!)

This week...

Worship

This week in Worship we have continued our ‘Desert to Garden’ topic. Our key words this week were CARE, LENT and GROW.

Our first session began with a lovely story called ‘Penguin and Pinecone’ Click here to watch. In the story Penguin shows love and care by planting Pinecone in a place where it can grow. Over time, Penguin’s love helped the Pinecone grow into a big, strong tree. We have continued this theme by planting seeds in our garden and adding playdough blossom to twigs…new life!

We then saw some photos of a baby – can you remember who the baby in the photos was? Just like Penguin, this grew big and strong because of the love and care from her family. It was Barbara!

Lent is a special time to care for others with kindness and love. When we help someone, share things or say kind words, our love grows, just like Pinecone grew into a tree and Barbara grew into a caring and loving nursery lady!

Lent reminds us that when we care for others, we grow closer to Jesus and help make the world more loving.

Our second session this week we heard about the Good Samaritan. Lent is a time to care for others, and we can help and be kind to everyone. Jesus said, “Be like the Samaritan. Love others and help them when they need you.”

We also heard about ‘Jesus and the woman of Samaria’. We saw a picture of the woman with Jesus at a well, and had a think about what they may be doing there. We heard words from the Gospel (John 4:42), “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, we have heard for ourselves and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the World”. We thought about and discussed the question, ‘How can you show Jesus’ love to others through your actions this week?’

We have concluded our sessions this week by praying in our prayer garden around our statue of Mary. Some of us have chosen to this ourselves as well throughout the day. It was so lovely and peaceful.

Throughout the week we have been collecting steps towards Cafod’s Big Lent Walk. Each day we have been walking around the school field. The CAFOD Big Lent Walk 2026 invites individuals, schools, and parishes to walk 200km during the 40 days of Lent to raise funds for fighting poverty, including projects supporting communities in Nigeria. Funds raised help combat widespread poverty, conflict, and climate issues, while supporting water access and empowering women and girls.

The stations of the cross

This week we all went on a pilgrimage around school to visit the stations of the cross. At each station we discussed what we saw which helped us to understand more about Jesus’ journey to the cross. The children were so moved they haven’t stopped talking about it.

Learning landscape

A week full of experiments with questions such as; what will happen if? what do you think? can you tell me? We have been:

  • balancing objects using balance scales using words like heavy, light, and balance.

  • predicting which objects will sink or float?

  • following instructions to recreate images using magnetic tiles

  • using number patterns to 9 to fill the numicon boards. Yes, nine a new number! The children were sooooo excited. We are now finding out about number 9

  • following cue cards to build flowers

  • using the iPad to complete matching games

    and next week we will be learning some new letter sounds!

World Book Day

A great day at nursery! Everyone came dressed as their favourite book character…well done everyone! Take a look at our pictures!

Year 6 Weekly Blog... “Every time you open a book, you grow—and when you open the Bible, you shine. God made you a reader with a story worth telling.”

What a beautiful week we have had in school. This week we have celebrated world book day and as a school we all came together to join in prayer and Mrs Gregan did an excellent job of reminding us all that every book can take us on an adventure—but the Bible is our greatest adventure of all. Just like the heroes and explorers in its pages, we become brave, curious readers every time we open a book and step into a new story. When we read, we grow—learning more about ourselves, the world, and God’s love. So as we go forward, when we choose a story to read, we must remember that we are all readers with the power to imagine, discover, and shine brightly, just like the people of the Bible who listened, learned, and lived out their faith.

This week in our RE lessons we have reflected on Maundy Thursday and the significant actions of Jesus and the message he was sending us- his new commandment. We reflected on how his action of wasking His disciples feet was a way of showing all Chrsitians that we are here to serve and love one another, just as he served and loved us. This then linked beautifully to our child-led liturgy on Discipleship- a true reminder that we are all called to follow God and be ‘fishers of people’ …

Love Yourself Day …

What another beautiful day we have had in school for National Prayer Day, where we have truly celebrated the gift of praying, everything and everyone we love and of course, as we are raising money by walking to Nigeria during Lent, we have of course had our very own pupil giving us a talk on what Catholic life is like in Nigeria. Year 6 had lots of questions and of course we learnt so much- thank you so much.

We also loved making our spring time planter for someone that we love …

You are never alone when you are lost in a book…

We love World Book Day! Yesterday brought such happiness, laughter and excitement to the classroom. I hope you enjoy looking at the photographs from yesterday! We even did a short writing piece on a scene from Wicked, as part of our Classic Fiction strudy on ‘The Wizard of Oz’- can’t wait to read them!

Where has our learning taken us this week?

We have got our fraction work up and running- simplifying fractions, comparing fractions and next week we will be adding and subtracting these fractions! In English, we have studied the meeting of Dorothy and Glinda- practisiong our dialogue writing and looking at how we can incorporate action and description in our reporting clauses. In music we have been noting the pitch on the song ‘White Cliffs of Dover’, continuing to explore sequence work on the apparatus in Gymnastics and much more!

Leading Learners…

Well done to Isioma this week.

Isioma, you work tirelessly in lessons to be the best you can be and we love teaching you as you are always so focused and engaged. You are really becoming a reflective learner and respond excellently to feedback, as you always want to know exactly what you can do to improve. We have been so impressed with your confidence, knowledge and ability to talk to all the classes of different ages on a topic that is so close to your heart and something that you are passionate about.

Intentional and Prophetic stars

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are intention in their actions. Children who make conscious decisions for the greater good. We will also be spotting children who are prophetic, who choose the right decisions with integrity and who display them publically. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Jacob for being intentional and prophetic to help others.

  • School Leaver Hoodies- a Parent payment of £20 has now been set for all those wanting to purchase a school leavers hoody. These are a great keepsake for the children and usually they request to wear these on their leavers day out ready for a class photo! Top Marques, St Annes, are now expecting you to go in to shop to make sure you get the correct size and let them know what size you want- payment is not needed in the shop this is through ParentPay.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 27.2.26 - "The invitation at the Transfiguration is to listen to Jesus to follow him." Pope Francis

This weeks Gospel we heard about the time Peter, James and John went with Jesus to pray and while they were there, Jesus was transformed. We have also shared a special moment with our Year 5 friends as we focused our thoughts towards Lent. The children gave one another their Lent boxes, it was such a wonderful moment with such sweet conversations of thankfulness and excitement as they spoke to one another about how they made their boxes and why.

Magic moments

Today has been full of so much joy! The children were brimming with excitement to share their books with you all and for you to see their progress this year. It was lovely to see their wide smiles as they returned, knowing that they have made you all so proud because of how hard they have been working in school. Following this we had a brilliant morning out in our forest school. A huge thank you to Mrs Tierney who allowed the children to have the most fun exploring the outdoors!

Let’s Celebrate

A huge well done to Florence who has been awarded our concentration certificate this week. Florence, you are just a joy! Your desire and love to learn is so special! This week we invited a whole host of visitors into our class, you listened so intently, which meant you learnt many new facts. When you were picked to share your thoughts your excitement brought a huge smile to my face. Not only were you excited to share your knowledge, you also spoke articulately and confidently! We are so proud of you!

A huge well done to Hope who has received the Star Virtue award this week. Hope you are always so intentional with your words, you use kindness towards others and are always quick to think about those in need and to say a prayer to help them. Your actions too are intentional! You care so much about God’s world and are desperate to make it a farier face. I can picture your smile as you came in with some food for our food bank!

Reminders

World book day: This Thursday. We would love for the children to come to school dressed as their reader identity. For example, I love stories that are mysterious and romantic, I could come as a detective or something including hearts. Your child may want to come as their favourite character that they love to read about, or wearing lots of facts they have read from non-fiction books, or something relating to the magazines they love to read (football, disney etc) it really is up to you!

Day of prayer and love: This Friday please come to school wearing clothes that you LOVE to wear. During this day it will be full of prayer and love. Please read Mrs Gregan’s blog to find out more.

Don’t forget if you would like your child to make ‘people we love’ planter (On Friday prayer day) to celebrate the world day of prayer, then please make a payment on parentpay ASAP.

This week...

Worship

This week in Worship we have started our ‘Desert to Garden’ topic. Our key words this week were LENT, SORRY and ASHES.

Our first session began with a story about a tree and the changing seasons. We looked at the trees outside and whether they had any leaves on them yet. We also went on a spring walk and discovered all the things that are changing.

Just like trees change through the seasons to grow and get ready for new leaves, the season of Lent helps us change and get ready for new beginnings with Jesus at Easter.

Our child led worship on Thursday was about Ash Wednesday. In our worship bag we had a picture of some ashes and we thought about what they could be. Some of us thought they looked like smoke and some of us remembered going to church and having ashes on our head. Here is a video we watched: Click here.

The ashes were holy ashes and they are God’s blessings. The ashes marked the start of Lent. We spoke about Lent being a time to say sorry and think about how we can be kind to each other in Lent. We made our Lenten promise – we listed all the ways we are going to be good in Lent around our big heart – kindness, loving, sharing, forgiving. If we do these things we will get a smiley stamp in our heart. Lets see if we can fill it by Easter! We’ve already got a lot!

We have also been focusing on Jesus’ cross. We have recreated different versions out of resources we have in nursery…and even our bodies! Take a look at our pictures!

On Monday and Tuesday the children visited Forest school to look for signs of new life, we spotted the trees budding, Spring flowers (crocus, snowdrops, daffodils).

On Wednesday we swapped our Lenten boxes with year three. All we have to do now are multiple acts of kindness for donations! Last year the school raised £1000…no pressure!

Learning Landscape

Such wonderful week. Everyone has returned to nursery full of life and raring to go!

In our learning landscape this week we have been:

  • Painting Nigerian art in readiness for the World Day of Prayer next Friday.

  • Planned that we will be walking once around the field in the morning and the afternoon to collect miles for Cafod’s Big Lent Walk. Between the whole school we would like to walk 4,200 miles! Look our for the sponsor form which was sent home this week.

  • Played guess my number, a game show where you don't count, you see the amount! Join the Numberblocks and learn how to recognise numbers of things without counting them. Have a try at home, maybe using different objects click here

  • Played the ribbon box game where we had to predict if the ribbons thatw ere pulled from the box were ‘long’ or short’, that was great fun!!

  • Played Silly Soup (a rhyming game), matched the rhyming objects from a sack and even rhymed our names to make nonsense names. We are getting good at rhyming…have a play at home, its fun!

  • Practised our numbers to eight and the sounds we have learnt so far. Keep a look out for the QR codes coming home so that you can practise at home too!

  • Used the ten frame for the first time. We found out that 4 and 4 added together makes 8, as well as 6 add 2, 5 add 3 and 8 ones’!

As always a busy week. We have been so busy we haven’t managed to do everything that we planned. Have a rest this weekend next week will be even busier!

We have been using our knowledge of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 (shifting digits left and right pass the decimal point) to convert differents units of measure such as cm, m , kg, g , l and ml. Complete the sheet that is stuck in your homework books.

Our spellings have looked at verbs that end in e but when we add our suffix ‘tion’, we have to drop the e when the word becomes a noun.
