Year 1 Weekly Blog 12.6.26 - "Where Christ is, there is the kingdom of God." St Ambrose

In this week’s Gospel we listen as Jesus gives power to the 12 apostles to go and heal the sick and to share with everyone the God’s kingdom. We have thought carefully about how we can choose to do this each day too by saying either kind or unkind words, helping or not helping. In Year 1 all the children shared their desires to be kind, love each other and help God’s world because he loves us all.

In RE we have been learning about Christian symbols and have focused on making the sign of the cross. We now understand that when we make the sign of the cross we are saying a prayer that reminds us of our faith: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The children all completed some lovely work to share with us how important it is to make the sign of the cross.

Going deeper in conversation

This week we had lots of fun by creating a flag belonging to one of the countries taking part in this years World Cup. If you can remember which countries flag you made we would like you to try and find out an interesting fact about that country. If you can’t remember, choose any of the countries and see what you can find out!

Magic moments

As you know the children have all completed their Phonics screening check this week and we could not be more proud of the children. They were all fantastic and used all of the skills that they have worked so hard on this year. It is such a joy to see the children’s love of reading, and this is what is truly important! We have given our reading area a little spruce up and we have really loved sharing books together each day, again the children just LOVE books! A huge well done to all of the children, you are all becoming such confident and happy readers. We are all so proud of you!

We also had such fun at this half terms ENRICHMENT. The children used their creativity with Mrs Naylor and created lovely artwork using lots of buttons!

A huge well done to Maggie who has been awarded our Star award this week. Maggie you are such a gentle kind and understanding little girl! You have been so ACTIVE in your learning throughout the year and your progress is absolutely amazing. A huge well done!

Our learning certificate has been awarded to Daisy for being such a brave, have a go, learner! It is such a joy to see your confidence grow and you tackle your learning challenges knowing and believing that you can do it, and do it well! We are so proud of you!

This week...

Welcome back everyone! I hope you are all well rested in readiness for what is going to be an extremely busy last half term!!

Worship

This week we have started our final branch, ‘Dialogue and encounter’. Our key words this week were FRIEND, CHURCH and JESUS.

Our first session was all about St Peter and St Paul. We watched two videos to help us to understand what they did and why they are special: Click here and here to watch at home

We realised that this was a bit like a super power! This week we have started our superhero topic and we have been talking about the qualities that make us ‘super’ – running, being kind, gymnastics, giving hugs. In our Worship session we heard that Jesus chooses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. St Peter and St Paul followed Jesus with courage and faith and Christians believe that we too are called to be Jesus’ friends.

We continued this with a quiz to see if we could remember all about the two saints. We were so good at this! We can all follow Jesus just like them.

Our child led worship on Thursday was focused on ‘the Sacred heart’. We began with a picture of Jesus and the children noticed lots of different things; the marks on his hands, the glow around him, the heart.

We discussed the heart, the flame and being kind:

· The Heart: Represents how much Jesus loves us, just as our own hearts help us to love our families and friends.

· The Flame: Symbolizes a warm, bright fire that keeps us safe in the dark and shows how Jesus' love is always burning for us.

· Kindness & Caring: exploring feelings. Children learn that Jesus wants us to share this love by being kind, helping others, and forgiving our friends.

We watched this video: Click here. It told us how Jesus always loves us, even if we make the wrong choice. He will always love us. We then made some hearts to represent Jesus’ love, and the love we have for everyone in our life.

Learning landscape

Super heroes assemble!! Our learning thread for this half term. We have kick started the topic by discussing which superpowers we all have. We watched the Amazing Super Heroes song for ideas! Click here to watch at home.

We have:

• made super disciples bandanas!

• used 5 frames and 10 framed to make composition of numbers 3-5

• been to forest school

• practised for Sports Day ( even though it was cancelled)

• joined in Year 4 enrichment afternoon. We did lots of party dancing!

• been on a gingerbread man hunt. They live in their special gingerbread tin but they keep escaping and hiding in the garden and nursery!

Nursery Silly sock and hat charity fundraising!

A massive ‘thank you’ for your generosity and kindness in this years charity event. We have raised £90.60!!! Which has been sent off to the Lymphoedema Support Network charity.

Sports day

As you are aware we had to cancel sports day on Wednesday but it has been rescheduled for Monday 6th July 9.15am. The same arrangements still apply. All children to be in nursery no later than 9 am! If it is not your usual session please collect your child immediately afterwards. Please make sure your child is wearing shorts, t-shirt, trainers and has a water bottle and sun hat! Fingers crossed for sunshine everyone.

I am hopeful that we may get some sunshine this weekend.

Year 5 Homework- Due Thursday 18th June

Reading

New reading targets have been reset so lets get reading to beat those this half term! Remember, we are also trying to beat our 15 million word target for the whole year- we can do it! Minimum of 20 minutes per day is vital in our reading and writing progression.

Grammar

To children have been given the next sheet of our grammar practice that we have been doing in class. These are to be peer marked on every Friday so it is vital that every child attempts this and remembers to bring it back into school.

Year 4 Weekly Blog Friday 12th June "The kingdom is hidden within you. It is found within your own soul." (St. Isaac)

A lovely first week back in Year 4. In our worship this week, we thought about the kingdom of God and what it is. We decided that the kingdom of God is led by Jesus and if we listen to His words and follow His ways, we can find God’s kingdom on earth. In RE we learned about the conversion of Saul to Paul - later St. Paul. Children have reflected upon St Paul’s importance as he spread the news about Jesus far and wide, facing many adversities on the way. They have looked at famous artwork depicting this event too.

This week, children have started a new topic - rivers in Geography. They gave such intelligent answers when reflecting on the progress of a river with Miss Edwards. They have done their multiplication check this week too - they have worked so hard all year to be secure in their times tables knowledge - this will really put them in an excellent position for year 5 maths.

In English, children have delved deep into the Viking cosmos and have found out about the nine realms. THey have created these in groups and their English topic reeolves around it.

We have got into the World Cup spirit in class. Every child has a team and has coloured a flag! They have got an extra team one between two as well! Exciting!

This takes place in school and children will be doing lots of things to consolidate their understanding of these two important invaders to our shores. It is always such a fun day! Viking Day - Friday 18th June

1. Time to get your Viking or Anglo-Saxon outfit ready! Remember, you can dress up as a typical Anglo-Saxon or Viking. Or you can be a Viking goddess, god, elf, giant or creature.

2. We would like you to invent a magical object that you can bring with you and explain to your class what it can make you do. This could be in the form of anything - a stone, a feather, a blanket, a scarf, a necklace, a ring etc See if you can make up a little story about it- you do not need to write it down.

The details are this:

Thursday 9th July 2026 at Farington Cricket Ground, Stanifield Ln, Farington, Lostock Hall, Leyland PR5 5XP

All children must be taken directly to the event and arrive there no later than 9.15am. I am sure you will all support each other with lifts. The first round of matches will start at 10am with the final and presentation at 4pm. Mr Cornwell will be in attendance at the event and will be your port of call.

Parents, friends, and relatives are welcome to come along and support the children but must refrain from coaching the teams. Full school PE kit must be worn. The white t-shirts that the girls were given can be kept for the finals.

Please bring packed lunches for the players, suitable outdoor clothing, water, and sun cream.

This is such an exciting event, I am really hoping to get down in the afternoon to support. Well done girls!

Year 6 Dynamo Cricket Competition- Tuesday 16th June

Despite over 25 children across Year 5 and 6 taking part in the school cricket club, we are only allowed to take a maximum of 10 children to the Lytham St Annes Dynamo Cricket Tournament, with us fielding a team of 8 children at a time.

Children have been chosen based on interest, participation and skill shown througout PE lessons and the cricket club sessions.

The children selected are;

Toby, William, Seth, Gus, Lorenzo, Rory, Gus, Logan, Kieran, Hudson

This will take place on Tuesday 16th June at Lytham Cricket Club, FY8 5QD.

This event will be 1:00pm-5:00pm (subject to finishing earlier based on the number of schools participating). Therefore, children will need to be picked up from school at 12:30pm and taken to the cricket club and also be picked up from the cricket club once the tournament has ended.

Summer 2 Extra-Curricular

Please see the timetable for extra-curricular sessions this Summer 2. There are some wonderful opportunities to get involved - but with limited spaces. Where there is a set number of children, names will be drawn out of a hat if more are interested.

For CN Active’s paid football club, your child must be signed up before the sessions start and payment must be made. There is still some outstanding payment from last half term.

Year 1 Weekly blog 22.5.26 - "The Holy Spirit transforms us and wants to transform the world." - Pope Francis

This week in church we will be celebrating Pentecost, the moment the disciples received the Holy Spirit. Over the past few RE lesson we have been focusing on the Holy Spirit! Last week they made their own Holy Spirit crafts and this week we have explored artwork before creating our own. We have also started to think about how the Holy Spirit can help us. In our prayer and liturgy’s we have shared the gifts of the Holy Spirit such as; kindness, gentleness, self control, peace, courage… and the children have thought about which gift they want the Holy Spirit to give them. We have also been busy learning the Glory Be prayer, understanding that when we say this prayer we are praising God and telling Him how much we love Him.

Going deeper in conversation

This week in My Happy Mind we have been learning all about ‘active listening’. I wonder if you can show your families how to actively listen to somebody.

Magic moments

This week we enjoyed our Forest school take over day which was just fantastic. The children loved spending the afternoon exploring the outdoors and being together with their friends. We had fantastic tree climbing, hammock swinging, craft making, den building, bird spotting and mud splat bee making fun! We are so lucky to have this special environment in our school! We ended our session with some quiet meditation listening the the sounds around us, some of the children were so relaxed that they didn’t want to get up! However, the chocolate biscuits were the perfect temptation!

At the end of this half term the children have awarded our learner of the Half term certificate to Lillie for such fantastic learning which has been noticed by all of your friends!

And our Star to Daisy who is gently kind, caring and wants to look after others. You do things just to be kind!

Reminders

Sports day: It is Year 1 and 2’s sports day on Wednesday 10th June at 1:30pm. We hope you can make it!

Phonics screening check: During our first week back it will be Phonics screening, the children are so well prepared and their confidence is soaring. During the half term, please help to keep their confidence high through a couple of daily videos using the Ruth Miskin QR codes (10 minutes a day is recommended). Keep practising with the sound cards, I know a lot of the children are enjoying playing teachers at home with these! Of course, keep reading together, this really encourages a love of reading which is what we really want for our little ones!

Year 5 Weekly Blog 22.05.26- ‘Rest isn’t a reward for the work, it’s part of the work’

What an exhusting, warm and yet exciting week it has been to finish our penultimate half term of the year! The first half of the week has been different for the children, with Mr O’Shea taking charge of the classroom whilst I was on residential. He could not have been more complimentary of the children and the level of respect, kindness and attitude that they had shown him- you did me proud! The end of the week has been action packed too with us having our forest school takover day, which the children and staff loved! (some of us enjoyed this a little too much). On Friday, many of our Year 5 members represented our school in the annual swimming gala competition, an event that often carries a lot of pressure and excitement- the children did themselves and the school very proud.

Mechanisms- Fairgrounds

What an amazingly busy term we have had! We have loved looking at and designing our very own Ferris Wheels. Working to a set Design Criteria, the children have considered location and themes when setting about their design. We are now on to the decor and construction, we have thought about stability and have reinforced both the axel and the a frame so that we have a sturdy mechanism.

We even squeezed in a Art/Music lesson where we combined to two topics to create an imaginative planet or alien whilst listening to our focused sound scape.

After the half term break, we will be completing these and moving on to Cooking and Nutrition, where we will be thinking about healthy diet and designing and making a fabulously tasty wrap!

Cooking and Nutrition- Adapting a recipie

What a busy half term we have had!. We kick started it with the continuation of our food tech topic- biscuits. To say the children have had a beeno is an understatement! From creating their very own packaging to completing a spread sheet for budgeting, the children have done it all! But I think you will agree, the imaginative creations that they collaboratively came up with were fantastic! The combinations would have been a sugar lovers dream come true!! I hope you had the chance to try them too.

Craft and Design- Photo Opportunities

How the term has flown! We have had such lovely lessons full of creativity and self reflection. We started off the term by completing our Street Art unit, thinking about a topic that is close to our hearts. Then relaying that in a piece of art. The childrens use of colour and subtle messaging is superb.

We have now moved onto a touch of photography. We have worked to a design criteria to create a photomontage advert for a department store using a landcape design. Then we have experimented with Macro photography, where the children got up close to some fruit and veg, then trying to guess what the image is! They have explored how to add filters into their photography for effect. We will be continuing this unit after the holiday before turning our attention to memory boxes and “Come Dine with Me Forest School Style!”
