"It's our choices ... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities"
With only three days of learning left before the holidays, the children are remaining as focused as ever in order to achieve those half term goals. Maths lessons have been filled with sequences and counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children have been busy solving problems by finding missing numbers and have been giving some great explanations and reasons as to why they have given certain answers - the use of mathematical vocabulary has been great.

It is so lovely to get lost in a good book and that is exactly what we have done this half term. As we approach the end of Skellig, we are looking back at the vast amount of work we have completed around this book. Discussion texts, poetry and setting descriptions have all been completed and I am excited for you all to read them on Thursday at parents’s day. Thank you to all of the parent’s who have made an appointment or who have contacted me. If you are still to make an appointment, please book on using parent pay.

How this first half term has flown! It has been an absolute pleasure watching the children grow over the last few weeks, not only in size but in confidence too.

"If you can dream it, you can do it..."
It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of our first half term together in reception. The children have settled in brilliantly. It is always so wonderful to see their self belief and, “I can” attitude grow during their first term. They have gained greater independence and some of the difficult tasks, such as putting their coats on or getting changed from PE, are now becoming much easier!

We have also provided the sound cards to help you to practise forming these letters.
Maths
This week we have increased our understanding of the number 3 and the children are great at explaining how the number 3 is made up of; 2 and 1, or 1 and 2, or 1 and 1 and 1. Next week we will be focusing on 2d shapes and how these shapes link with our numbers.
RE
In RE this week we have been discovering all about how we pray the Rosary, using Rosary beads to help us. As you know we are collecting toiletries for a local food bank as we prepare for our Harvest celebration in school. Thank you so much to all of those who have already donated items! Please make sure that all donations are in school by Monday. Thank you for your support.

Tempest photographers will be coming in on Wednesday the 16th October 2019. Individual and sibling photographs will be taken during the morning. If you have children who are not in school but you wish to have a photograph taken with their siblings in school, then please email school to Mrs Hodges, bursar@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk as we will have to ask you to come in early and be here for 8:30am. We need to hear from you so that we can assess numbers.
Harvest
Our Harvest Festival this year will be taking place on Tuesday 15th October. This year we are collecting donations for the Food Bank, a much needed charity for so many. Nursery will be collecting toiletries.
Unfortunately this year we are unable to celebrate in church and instead we will be sharing a liturgy in the hall. Nursery will be joining Reception and KS1. We are so sorry but due to space it will be difficult to invite families; we definitely need a bigger hall!
This Friday and at the beginning of next week, we will be exploring and finding out about how and where our food grows and comes from. We are then going to make bread and eat it for our snack!!! Yummy!

because climb beautiful could should would
We are trying lots of different ways to practice these in class- what exciting and fun ways can you think of to practice these words at home? Maybe produce some art work with the words? School trip to Brockholes on Friday
Friday is our school trip to Brockholes and we are all very excited to go! We will be setting off promptly at 9am, therefore please ensure that you are at school for 8:45am. We should be back for the end of school, after a wonderful day outdoors, with no rain (here’s hoping).
As the trip is outdoors all day and we may get muddy, the children have been asked to wear their own, old clothes. Please do not let the children wear anything they don’t want to potentially ruin or get muddy! We ask that no jeans are worn as these can get very wet, and advise children to wear wither tracksuit bottoms or leggings. Layers is also advisable, t-shirt, with jumper over the top and please, please, please do not forget a waterproof coat. If you child has waterproof bottoms, then feel free to send these in. The children also need to wear old trainers or walking boots for the day.
Jackie will provide packed lunches for those children who usually have a school dinner on Friday, however, if you usually have a packed lunch then please do the same. It is vital that all packed lunches are packed in disposable bags, as the children will not be able to carry these around with them and there is no storage. No Tupperwares, plastic forks or special water bottles- the bottles again need to be disposable. The children will not need bags or any other belongings with them on this day, as they need to just concentrate on their learning and having fun.
