Before bed last night, we shared the most beautiful night-time prayer together. We were led beautifully through a time of prayer and reflection by Sophia, one of the wonderful Castlerigg youth workers who has been with us throughout our stay. She encouraged the children to reflect on the words from Isaiah 43:1–3 and think about what this scripture means to them personally.

Castlerigg Day 1

We’ve arrived and we have had a wonderful first afternoon. The children have been busy taking part in lots of team being activities, enjoyed exploring the Castlerigg gardens and the facilities in the games room.

The theme for our next three days is ‘Let Your Light Shine’— something our children do so well. This afternoon, the children have taken part in some fun ice-breaker games, before being split into smaller teams and creating robots to change the world. As always all their ideas were amazing with an Our Lady theme of kindness thread through them all - we were very proud.

After a long journey and a busy afternoon of team building the children were more than ready for their chicken fajitas at dinner, followed by delicious cinnamon roll birthday cake to celebrate our lovely Anna’s birthday.

We are about to finish the day gathering in the Chapel followed by a bedtime story.

Year 6 Weekly Blog Friday 4th September

What a lovely couple of days we have had! There has been such a warm and friendly buzz of excitement, anticipation and enthusiasm in the Year 6 classroom. We could not be happier with how the children have returned to school for their final year at Our Lady’s. We have spent a lot of time over the past two days talking about classroom expectations and how we want and our vision for the year ahead.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'It's the Final Countdown!'

"Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop" (Matthew 13:8).

In this week's Gospel, Jesus says, "Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop" (Matthew 13:8). This reminds us that our hearts are like soil. When we listen carefully to God's word, make kind choices, and try our best to do what is right, we are like the good soil where seeds can grow strong. In our final couple of weeks, year 6 have many opportunities to show kindness, work hard, include others, and be positive role models as they prepare for the next stage of their journey. Just as a tiny seed can grow into something amazing when it is cared for, the small choices we make each day can help us grow into the person God created us to be and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Not long now until ‘Robin Hood’- we can’t wait for you to see it …

It has been another busy week next week, with the play. Most of you have ordered and received your tickets now. The show starts at 6:00pm and will be approximately 1.5 hours long. The children need to arrive at school at 5:40pm, to get changed in to their costumes. They all look fabulous in their outfits! Here is a sneaky peak at rehearsals …

Forest school has been wonderful this week, the children have climbed, explored and played. A beautiful way to spend an afternoon …

We are all looking forward to the leaver’s day out next THURSDAY! It is imperative that all children MUST have a bag with them, containing plenty of fluids, a snack, hat and sun-cream/ waterproof coat dependent on the weather. We will be out ALL day, come rain or shine, so having the right things is so vital! They are able to wear their own clothes on this day, leavers hoodies might be nice for pictures? Sensible shoes for walking must also be worn, as we are doing ALOT of walking! The PTFA are kindly subsidizing the cost for some of the trip, but we are please asking for a small contrubution of £8, which is now on parent pay- many thanks.

Reports will be sent out on Monday, I hope you enjoy reading and reflecting on them, they have so much to celebrate from their time at Our Lady’s but like everyone, always something to take away and learn from. The most important part of your child’s report, is the one written by us, as their teacher. We celebrate the WHOLE child, not just their performance on one day, so please let this be your focus and not the SAT’s results. SAT’s results will be sent out at the later date on Thursday, as explained on last week’s blog. Please have a good look at them along with the explanation- the standardized score on reaching expected for all papers was 100 and for Greater Depth is 110. Remember, results from a test never define you as a person, just look at what they have all achieved this year- there is so much to celebrate and be proud of!

Wow Hugo, our eyes are drawn to you while you are on stage. You have grown so much in confidence and we are so proud of how you have listened to directions, took risks and let yourself go! Your enthusaism and desire to give your all is really shown in rehearsals, keep this up as it is magical! Thank you for working so hard on your character, and doing your absolute best on stage!

These children live out these virtues with Jesus at the centre, letting his example inspire both their curiosity and their actions each day. Year 6 Play information

Dear Year 6 Parents,

We are delighted to remind you that our Year 6 production of Robin Hood will be taking place on:

  • Monday 13th July at 6:00pm

  • Tuesday 14th July at 6:00pm

For both evening performances, all children must arrive at school by 5:40pm to allow sufficient time for costumes, final preparations and getting into character before the audience arrives.

As we enter the final stages of rehearsals, this is a crucial period in the lead-up to the performances. We kindly ask for your support in ensuring full attendance wherever possible. Regular attendance at rehearsals is essential for helping the children build confidence in their roles, perfect their performances and work effectively as part of the cast. It also greatly supports our planning and preparation as we bring the production together.

As part of our commitment to working towards our STAR Charter and making a positive contribution to our wider community, Year 6 will also be raising money for charity through the production. The children have decided to organise a raffle at both evening performances, alongside the sale of play programmes, which they are currently helping to create. We would be extremely grateful if each Year 6 child could donate a raffle prize. This could be a small gift, toy, book, game, chocolate hamper item or other suitable prize. If donations could be brought into school at any point during this week, it would greatly assist us with organising the raffle and ensuring its success.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication the children have shown so far, and we are looking forward to sharing their talents with you in what promises to be two fantastic evenings of entertainment.

Year 6 Weekly Blog ‘If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change’.

“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Jesus tells us, “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” In this week’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that we do not have to carry our worries, fears, or problems alone. When life feels difficult, we can turn to Him in prayer and trust that He will help us. This message teaches us that God's love brings peace, comfort, and strength, helping us to care for others with kindness and compassion too. This lead on beautifully around the children’s feelings towards transtion and the discussion point: what are some worries or challenges that we can bring to Jesus and ask Him to help us with?

What a busy week we have had in Year 6. We’ve managed to keep all of our learning going whilst finally nearly finishing our play! Next week we will be running all the way through, making small changes and improving what we have done- maybe even adding a dance in! There are still some children not fully familiar with their lines, please spend time this weekend going over their parts, making sure they know all their lines off by heart with the right expression. They have had their scripts for 6 weeks now and there is only one week to go! Don’t forget tickets are on sale, so please make sure you purchase to avoid disappointment.

This week we have continued our World Cup project work booking holidays to our destinations, researching the football players and learning about their culture and tradtions in more detail! Our transition learning continues and on top of this transition preparation, all children have now been for a visit to their new high school and all have come back positive, looking forward to their new chapter, with of course some nerves. We have spoken in class about these feelings and how we need to share them with the people around us. We will of course, be discussing this in more detail over the next two weeks…

SAT’s Results …

We would like to inform you that Year 6 reports will be sent home on Monday 13th July. These reports celebrate each child’s achievements, progress, and contribution to school life throughout the year.

Unfortunately, the organisation responsible for administering and processing the Key Stage 2 SATs has experienced a technical issue, resulting in a delay to the release of results. As a result, Year 6 SATs results will not be available until Thursday 16th July and will therefore be issued separately from the annual reports, unlike previous years. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Leavers Day

As we approach the final two weeks of the school year, the celebration of our Year 6 children is at the forefront of our minds. Over the past 7 years, the children have grown into young people who are ready to fly. Young people who know how to be the change that they want to see in the world. They could not have achieved this without the love and support that they received from their school community, and more importantly, their family. For this we thank you.

On Wednesday 15th July, the whole school community will come together at the Leavers Mass to celebrate the class and their journey through primary school. This will take place at 9.30am in church.

The following day, we will be going out for the day for part two of the celebrations! They will be walking down, along the beach, to Fairhaven Adventure Golf and Adventure Playground, where we will stay and have lunch and games for the afternoon. We will then head back to school for the end of the day.

Details and payments for this day out will be given out to you next week and we will finalise arrangements-what your children needs to wear and bring with them on the day.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other'.

“Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:31

This week’s gospel, Matthew 10:31, reminds us that we are very special to God, saying, “Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” This means that even the smallest things matter to God, and so do we—each one of us is loved, known, and precious. Just like our school’s mission teaches us that everyone is important and valued, this verse helps us remember to treat ourselves and others with kindness and respect, knowing we all belong and matter. If every single one of us is so precious, how can we make sure we show that in the way we care for others each day?

What what a hot week in school!! Despite the heat, and trying to keep as cool as possible, dancing, singing and laughing has most definitely been the theme for the week this week in Year 6! You are in for such a treat with their end of year play. When we watch them on stage now, we can’t believe some of them are the same children that started the play 3 weeks ago. Their confidence has grown so much and are now so much more comfortable on stage that they are bringing their characters fully to life! Please make sure Year 6 spend some time this weekend going back over all of their lines, thank you. Next week we will be sorting costumes. We always try to source the outfits as much as we can ourselves, with little effort or cost from yourselves. If you have not heard about costumes as yet, then you will next week- sorry for the delay! This is a long process, so bear with us.

Tickets will go on sale next week for the play. You will recieve a letter on Monday with a form for you to request which performances you would like to attend and how many tickets you need- so keep a look out in bags on Monday!

Year 6 have been so busy in class too, during play rehearsals, they have continued to work on their World Cup project, looking closely at specific countries, their geography and even creating a travel brochure!

Year 6 have excelled in their jobs around the school this week and the teachers have been praising them on their support within the classroom, in fact I think they wished they were in there permanently. They have sat with the children in their class at lunchtimes to help keep the noise levels down, they have been supporting them in their work, reading with children and even building towers in Reception!

On Wednesday we had our annual Gym-Jam Jog Extravaganza and wow what a turn out! It was wonderful to see so many people coming together, having fun and jogging (of course) to help us raise money to go towards our wonderful school- thank you so much for all of your donations! Despite the heat, we had so many parents joining in too, which made it all the more special! Thank you to all of those that joined us …

On Monday, Group 1 will be having their Food Tech lesson, “ Forest School Come Dine with Me”.Each child knows which ingredients they are brining in to make a three course meal on the campfire. Children can come in forest school clothes ( trousers only, no shorts) and change into their unform afterwards.

St Bede’s Transition

Next Thursday 2nd July children are invited to a transition day at St Bede’s. They are being picked up at 9:10am by members of staff from St Bede’s and will be dropped off back at school just before pick up time. Children all need to bring £3.00 (in the correct change) for their school dinner and their water bottle- please don’t forget. Please see the letter below for more details:

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'Faith is trusting in God even when you don't understand his plan'

Another fantastic week was had in Year 6! The children are working so hard both in the hall, in the classroom and around the school. We couldn’t be prouder of their independence and maturity. The play is coming together, children have come much more prepared for each scene, as they have clearly been practicing their words and songs! We can’t wait for you to see it.

Our Sports Day was such a lovely day and a real celebration of effort, enjoyment, and teamwork. It was great to see every child getting stuck in, trying their best, and encouraging each other along the way. There were lots of smiles, cheers, and proud moments as the children worked together in their house teams and supported one another. It really showed that taking part, working as a team, and having a go are what matter most. It was also extra special that it took place on the same day as England’s first World Cup match—just like the players, our children showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and skill throughout the day!

Borwick Hall - Day 2 - A little bit of rain and lots of sunshine!

Last night ended with a beautiful reflection around the camp fire as we celebrated the successes of the day - there was an awful lot to celebrate. From acts of kindness, to bravery and sheer determination; every child achieved something remarkable. I also think that this group of children were the best (in my many years of residential) to go to bed. All in bed by 10.30pm - and the majority asleep! A slightly early start but nothing too bad - clearly excited for he day ahead. Breakfast was a full English - oh how we have been spoilt before each group headed out again on adventures.

Mr Cornwell’s group started on the water in the canoes; rafted together and they were the best group I have ever had for canoeing; a great team!. After lunch, it was off on a wander and a scramble where we got a tad wet, before heading back to site for the leap of faith. Mrs Barker’s group kayaked this morning after their adventures in the canoes yesterday, then climbed Warton Crag this afternoon; seeing some breath-taking views from the top. Mr Nay’s group had a double water day with canoeing and kayaking - splashes all round and some very soggy children.

Tonight’s tea was again, utterly delicious - chicken fajita wraps with rice, followed by lemon cake and custard. The children are currently getting their bedrooms tidy, bags packed, showered and ready for tonight’s talent show. They will be setting off at lunch time tomorrow and we will make sure to send a text with their expected time back in school.

We hope you have enjoyed seeing the pictures and the fun they have had; I am absolutely sure that plenty of memories have been made. A huge thank you to the staff who have given up their time to take the children away - they are so very special!

Borwick Hall Day 1 - and we got sunshine!

What a glorious first day! We arrived to heavy rainfall and by the end of it, the sun is shining! After becoming familiar with our surroundings and getting used to our bedrooms, the children met their instructors and headed off to explore the grounds. We are so lucky to be in a beautiful part of the world - surrounded by nature.

The three groups have all had very different experiences today; tree climbing, canoeing and scrambling. The tree climbing and caving was fantastic - a group of very brave children (and teachers) who managed to ring the bell at the top of the tree. A spot of indoor caving too which will prepare them for the real thing tomorrow. The canoe group had fun on the water - after some raft building and team building games, the highlight was sliding down the canoes into the freezing water! Then finally, the last group headed off site on a hike. Check out the photos!

Tonight we have sat down to tea of pizza, chips and salad; with sticky toffee pudding for dessert - absolutely delicious! We have just sent the children off on an orienteering challenge before Mrs Tierney (who has joined us for the evening) lights the camp fire for an evening reflection.
