This weeks spelling are irregular past tense verbs. In addition to the look, cover, write and check activity, the children will need to fill in the table changing present tense verbs to past tense verbs. It can help to say the word in a sentence out loud in the present tense, then in the past eg. Today I will sing. > Yesterday I sang.

Reading
Please continue reading at home each evening. I have reminded the children that taking their book home each day is their responsibility, so hopefully they will be coming home regularly.

Trip to London Thursday 18th September 2025

On Thursday, we will be going to London to visit the Houses of Parliament in line with our British values within our national curriculum and also linking to our Ancient Greece topic in History.

Here are the key times for arrivals and departures for the day:

6:45am- arrive at school.

7:00am- Coach departs from Our Lady’s to Preston train station.

8:00am- Train departs from Preston station to London Euston.

4:30pm- Train departs from London Euston to Preston train station

6:40pm- Coach departs from Preston train station back to Our Lady’s

7:15pm- Coach arrives back at Our Ladys

If you were to miss the 7:00am coach departure, school will ring you and liase for you to meet us at Preston train station for the 8am train departure.

Children are to arrive in their PE hoody’s with joggers/leggings. Children are to wear their white school polo shirt underneath their hoody. Children will need to bring a coat as there is a chance of rain on the day. The temperature is still quite warm so a thin lightweight but waterproof jacket is recommended.

Children will need to bring 2 packed lunches for their lunch and dinner for the day as we will not be stopping anywhere to buy any food- therefore no money is required on the day to be brought in. Lots of healthy snacks are recommended, along with lots of water, as there will be plenty of times throughout the day to snack but no chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks are to be brought in- water only

No electronic devices are to be brought on the trip

Children are allowed to bring small items to comfort and entertain them whilst they are on the train such as:

• reading book

• deck of cards/card games

• small notepad and pencils

• mini transportable games

• small teddy bear

Whatever item the child is bringing, it needs to fit in their bag as they cannot carry any items around in their hands throughout the day.

If your child suffers from travel sickness, travel bands are recommended to be worn to help aid your child. If there travel sickness is more severe, then any medication used on long travels needs to be brought in on the day in a sealed bag with your child’s name on with timings of when the medication is usually taken.

According to Transport for London, National Rail and Avanti West Coast, there are no planned train/tube strikes for any of the lines and stations that we are attending on the day of travel.

Please remember that the Read Write Inc book links to your child’s reading in school. The second book is one to enjoy - the children visited the school library and picked one that they were interested in reading at home.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 12.09.25-‘God has shown you all of this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are’- Joseph

What a super week it has been in our first full week of Year 5! The children have settled in so well and are really up to speed on the expectations of upper juniors.

We began our brand new RE curriculum this week with our first unit being ‘Creation & Covenant’, looking into the first covenants that God made with the strongest faiths and those who showed the most trust in God. We started with Abraham and how he was promised to be the father of many nations and how this linked down to his great grandchild, Joseph, and the wonderful story of how his faith and trust in God became such an inspirational story in the Bible. The children have had a blast singing, dancing and recreating the story of Joseph with some roleplay.

In maths, we have continued to look into our newest column in place value- our tenths column and have been exploring this in various ways such as part whole diagrams, addition and subtraction equations, fractions and also decimals.

In English, we have dived into what it would be like as a WW2 evacuee and have began writing letters back home to our parents from the 1940’s.

It was lovely to meet so many of you on Wednesday at induction evening and to finally put some names to faces (which will certainly help me out on the gate at the end of the day!). If you didn’t manage to make induction evening or you missed any key details from the night, here is a copy of the slides from the presentation.

We will get the chance next week to see what democracy looks like in our country when we visit the Houses of Parliament.

You have been so learned these past two weeks and have transferred all of your skills from Year 4 straight into Year 5. You have shone so much wisdom in our lessons and have done this with such kindness, love and patience. Thankyou Scarlett!

You have been so focused during teacher inputs, independent tasks and following instructions. Lots of TTRS practice to keep being super speedy- a large majority of the Year 5 Maths curriculum is based on solid times tables knowledge so keep practicing- even if you have already gone green!

The children have a spelling sheet to complete which is based on this weeks spellings. The children should be familiar with how to complete this as we have practiced this in our spelling lesson.

In RE, we analysed the link between Abraham and Joseph and we created a family tree to show the connection. Can you draw your own family tree to show how you are related to your family members?

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 12th September "Love each other as Jesus has loved us." He has given nothing less than His life for us (St. Teresa)

The children have settled so well already in Year 4 and we have had a really super week!

The theme of our worships and our RE lesson this week has been self-giving. In the Gospel, children learned about giving of yourself to God’s will and how Jesus came to save us, not condemn us. We have been to church this week for Our Lady’s birthday. Children were so reflective. Also - we have had our first children’s worship this week from these children. They read from Genesis about the call of Abram and we sung ‘Be not afraid,’ reminding us that God is always with us.

In Science, children have learned that all animals are separated into vertebrates and invertebrates. They then learned all about the 5 classes of vertebrates and completed some beautiful work about them. In English we have practised the following reading skills - finding the meaning of unknown words, summarising the main idea of a paragraph and making sensiblepredictions about what we read.

In our Kidsafe lesson this week, children learned about what to do if they get ‘yukky feelings.’ We talked about sharing problems and telling a trusted adult. Children then discussed who their trusted adults are. We practised saying NO assertively if we are in uncomfortable or unsafe situations.

It was so lovely to meet some of you properly for the first time on Wednesday and see some familiar faces! If you missed it, here is the powerpoint from our induction evening. Please ensure you have filled in the online forms so that I can start to put photographs on, know who is picking your child up and also I am informed of medical needs.

Our virtues this half term are being learned and wise. This week, Henry O. receives our star for making wise decisions and for striving to be the best learner he an be.

PE stars this week were: Wren for super gymnastics moves and Jude Cl. for great control over the ball. Well done!

We have a trip to UCLAN on 11th November. This is called ‘Cosmetic Chemistry’ and supports our work in Science on solids, liquids and gases next half term. It is now payable on parent pay.

Here are the forms to be filled in if you have not already done so.

Forest school - Children that are attending forest school sessions have been informed and have letters in bags. These sessions start on Tuesday 16th September. Please ensure they have the right clothing so they can participate.

This week...

Another wonderful week at nursery!

Worship

This week we have started to come together on ‘carpet kingdom’ for worship. We begin worship by lighting a candle, to show that Jesus is with us and by singing a song. This week it was ‘God made me, God made you’. We then made the sign of the cross just like we do in church. We even went on a ‘cross’ hunt around school. It will come a no surprise that there are lots!

We have spoken about our families and how we are now part of a new nursery family, school family and the family of the church. We have loved seeing our family pictures on the wall, please send one in if you can!

This week we have begun our first branch of our RE curriculum ‘Creation and covenant’. We spoke about our wonderful world and how God created it and everything in it, even all of us. We spoke about all the things in our world and then went on a nature hunt making nature bracelets - we had so much fun!

During the week we have continued our exploration of colour. We made an investigation tub full of interesting colourful objects…We also have been sorting secondary colours of green, purple and orange…it’s safe to say that we know our colours!!

This week we have been looking at the features on our faces, the colour of our hair, if we have curly wurley hair, straight hair and the differing colours of our skin. We then painted our portraits. Everyone studied their faces in a mirror then chose the correct colour of painted. We even found out that most of the friends at nursery have blue eyes!!!

On Wednesday we introduced a new sound ‘a'. We now have two sounds to remember and have to practise writing! We did our writing this week in orange glitter sand.

Year 1 Weekly blog 12.9.25 - Let the beauty of nature remind you of the goodness of God.

Our week began in such a special way, with a walk holding our Year 6 friends hands, ready to celebrate Our Lady’s birthday. The children shared such happy conversations with each other and our Year 6 friends really wanted to find out all about their Year 1 buddy, it was such a joy to listen to the caring conversations. In church all of our children sat so prayerfully, singing to hymns they remembered and joining their hands respectfully.

We welcomed a special visitor from CAFOD on Monday! She helped us become learned and wise towards our world and the greater needs of others! Our Year 1’s were incredibly knowledgeable and caring, and absolutely blew our special visitor away with the wisdom of their words.

Magic moments of learning

We have been so busy with learning! Within RE and our liturgy’s we have been focused on CREATION - the beautiful world that God has made. We have a class of caring children who want to look after God’s beautiful world. The children enjoyed heading outside to see, smell, hear and feel God’s creation as we went on a scavenger hunt in our school grounds.

Letter join lessons have started and have been a real hit! ON Tuesday afternoon the Children enjoyed their first history lesson from Mrs Marshall! The children loved seeing the timeline grow in the classroom!

Year 6 Weekly Blog 12.09.25 - 'If there was ever a time to dare, to make a difference, to embark on something new - it is now!'

After two weeks of gathering vocabulary, exploring formal language and analysing examples of formal letter writing, house captain speeches and class council speeches, we have nearly arrived at the point where all children know their positions of responsibility. Yet again, the children spoke with such passion and sincerity in their videos when they addressed their houses in a bid for their votes. We could not be more proud of all of the children who gave it a go and faced their fears. The videos were all different, showing all of their many gifts and skills, all in which are vital to work as a team ready to lead the school. Positions and leadership responsibilities will be announced on Monday during assembly and these jobs will start straight away. I cannot wait to see how the children get on this year and what legacy they leave on our school community. Next week we will be speaking about celebrating one another and being happy for one another’s roles around the school, we know there may be some people who will be thrilled with their leadership jobs but unavoidably, there may be some that feel disappointed. It is crucial that we deliver the same message to the children, that all jobs within Year 6 are vital in the working of the school and we must all work together and help one another to make the school a beautiful place to be. Sometimes God’s plan for us, is not always the same as what we had in mind, but He knows each of our gifts and talents, and He will always guide us along the right path, where we can make the most difference. We need to embrace every job and make it our own, I know Year 6 will do this so well.

This week our Reception children started school full time. Walking through the school gates along with the rest of the school, as I am sure you will all remember, can be an overwhelming time for both children and parents. This week we have had four helpers on the gate who have been a wonderful help to these children and we would love to continue this, taking these children around to their class teacher and who better than our Year 6 leaders? Every week we will be picking 4 children to come to school and wait by one of the gates to help the teachers at 8:45am. Next week the following children have been asked, but please email if there any difficulties with this time.

Learning

We have made a really good start to our learning in class this week. In Maths we have been continuing exploring the different calculations structures of multiplicative and additive, they have been building these and discussing how we can use these when reasoning through word problems. It is quite clear at this point, those children who are really secure with their multiplications and those that need to spend a bit more time speeding up their mental recall. In Year 6 the expectations are so high and learning goes at a much quicker pace, the children will grasp concepts and move their learning forward if they do not have to spend too long recalling number facts. So please remind them to use TT Rockstar’s and other online platforms we have to practice these.

This week, children had their first Kidsafe lesson with Mrs Gregan which was all about trust and recognising ‘yukky feelings.’ What makes you feel sad, scared or worried? How does it feel in your body?

John Paul- Focused Cooper Crab- Wow, what a great start to Year 6 you have had! You are always ready to engage in your learning and listen to the teachers. You get lost in your task, you fully immerse yourself in your work and organise yourself to ensure you complete your work within the right time. We love the way you track the teacher consistently during lessons and show such a positive attitude towards every lesson. Thank you for being ready and eager to learn!

Learning and Wise Stars

This half term we will be on the look-out for all the children that are learned in their actions, finding God in all things. Those who are wise, who use their learning for the common good. These children are the role models of the school, who drive their own learning and who have the wisdom to know when and how to apply one’s learning. Year 5 Weekly Blog 04.09.25- ‘Every great journey starts with just a small step’

What a wonderful start to the new school year it has been. The class have picked up where they left from Year 4 in terms of their attendance with us having 100% this week! Let’s keep this up. It has been a mixed bag of weather this week but that has not stopped the children exploring and having fun out on the playground. Our classroom is starting to come together with signs of learning coming to life- it would be great for parents to see this on Wednesday at our induction evening.

We have dived straight into our learning, especially with our history topic of the Ancient Greeks and learning about all of their important aspects which have impacted our world today- such as democracy. We have introduced a new column to our place value chart in maths which is our tenths column. We have been exploring different ways of showing tenths from diagrams to fractions and now decimals. In English, we have been looking into WW2 and lots of different specific vocabulary associated with this as we lead up to our first class novel of the year.

Kidsafe

Next week, we will starting our kidsafe lessons in line with our RHE curriculum. Here is an outline of our first lesson. If you have any queries or questions to discuss then please let me know.
