Year 4 Weekly blog. Friday 5th December "Prepare a path for God so that He can enter your heart."(St John Baptist De La Salle)

This week in both our RE and liturgy, the focus has been on reflecting upon the messages of John the Baptist and how these relate to Advent. Children in Re reflected on how we are called by John to ‘Repent,’ in Advent and ‘Make your paths straight,’ so that we can allow God that is goodness to enter in. Children have thought about what Advent means to them and how they too can grow to be a better person towards Jesus. Our children led a beautiful worship all about the story of Jesus meeting the sisters Martha and Mary. Martha is angry because her sister is listening to Jesus whilst she does all the work. However, Jesus reminds her that Mary is doing the most important thing - listening to the Lord. It reminded us that at this busy time of year, we need to spend quiet time with God and focus on what is truly important.

In HRSE this week, children learned how to behave if there was an emergency - things like dialling 999, quick reactions, remaining calm and reassuring any injured people came up. Th

In other news: We have had a very busy week, analysing fairy tales in English and learning how to write description and dialogue. We made ice-cream in Science - by lowering the melting point of the ice - by adding salt. There were mixed results - some children ended up with milkshake and some with Mr. Whippy - but all agreed it was tasty!

Year 6 Weekly Blog - 'During this Advent season, I will keep alert and awake, listening for you.'

This week in our Liturgy we focused on Mary, to enhance our RE lessons. We contemplated on the following illustrations and then shared our observations, discussing its significance and what they thought each aspect symbolised. Both in RE and in our liturgy we have reflected on the strength, bravery and faith that Mary showed during the annuciation and her journey to Bethleham, what it means to be names ‘Mother of God’ and how she is mother to us all- listening to our prayers, giving us strength and is always there for us, just like our own mothers.

Thank you also to our wonderful class members, who delivered a beautiful child-led liturgy on advent…

Prayer stations have now arrived around the school, each symbolising and offering scripture to reflect upon different parts of the nativity. Our class were given the kings to create, please have a look at our prayer station. We can’t wait to meet up with our reception partners next week, to share this pillgrimage together.

Of course on Friday we had a very special liturgy as a whole school community, where we all followed our very own Mary, Joseph and of course Freddie, the donkey. This was just a beautiful time, where we reflect on the journey towards Christmas day. Well done to our wonderful year 6’s who took part, by either dressing up, carrying the stars and lantens and reading.

This week I feel we have well and truly started our nativity journey. On Tuesday, we were blessed to watch our youngest children perform on stage so beautifully- telling the story through song and movement, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas. Then on Wednesday, the whole of Key Stage 2 ventured down to church to begin our concert rehearsal. As I sat there listening to the children sing their hearts out and say their lines with such confidence, I could not help but smile. Thank you to those that have practised their songs and words so well! Next week, we will be doing our final practises on Monday and Wednesday, so please can we make sure that all children know their words by then.

 Where has our learning taken us this week?

We have had a lovely week in class. Full of hard work and enthusiasm. We have completed all the work on our class novel, we can now just sit back, listen and enjoy hearing how the story unfolds- it has been very dramatic! In RE we have been learning about the holy orders and carried out some research. In Geography the children have reallyu enjoyed learning about tectonic plates and how volcanoes, earthquakes and mountains are formed.

Christmas songs practice

Every year, our wonderful KS2 children prepare a carol service in church for the community. The service is full of prayer, scripture and song - it really is a special afternoon and evening. The children have been practising the songs in school and have all been given a song booklet so that they can pratise along with our recorded videos at home.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 28.11.25- 'Advent is a time for waiting for the Lord, who will visit us in all of our hearts'

In preparation for the beginning of Advent, we have been looking at the joyful mysteries of Jesus (can you remember these 5 in chronological order?). We turned the classroom into a scavenger hunt in order to find these key descriptions. We have also made our advent promises along with Christmas cards for our library- the Christmas spirit is really starting to come alive in Year 5.

In Maths, we have been working super hard with multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers, using a variety of written methods. We have focused our learning on short multiplication as it is the most efficient choice of jotting. We have been practicing regrouping in different place value columns and using these methods to solve word problems. In English, we have finished planning our first news article- reporting on Peter’s first battle in Narnia! Due to nativity practices taking place all throughout the week, our PE lesson was moved to the classroom in which we took part in some class activities including ‘clapball’ and ‘don’t break the chain’. We also took a trip to see our Year 1 partners to share our pop up books, which have been created over the half term.

In RHE this week, we have had some personal and mature conversations about how our bodies are going to change over the next couple of years. As we know, these conversations are often awkward and embarrassing but very important to open up about so please make sure to ask your trusted adults any questions or worries that you may have.

Learner of the Week: This week, our learner of the week goes to George for being an reflective and enthusiastic learner. You have really thrown yourself into our English unit this half term George. I loved how you have you applied our previously learnt descriptive skills and new grammar skills into our article writing. I can’t wait to see your finished articles over the next few weeks.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 28.11.25 - "Advent is like a springtime, when everything is renewed and is so fresh and healthy." - Mother Teresa

This week in RE our focus has been on angels, we have discovered that they are messengers sent by God. We have studied art work and the children led a wonderful discussion about what they thought angels look like. We listened to a piece of scripture about the shepherds who were visited by an angel who gave them a message about the birth of Jesus. God wanted all people to know about the birth of His Son, not just the rich. Our prayer and liturgy has been very special because we have been thinking all about Advent. The children are so excited and we have reflected on how we can prepare ourselves and grow closer to Jesus during Advent. The children have all made their Advent promises which will go on display in the entrance of school.

Today we have sadly said goodbye to our wonderful student teacher, Miss Edwards who has been with us for the past 6 weeks. Miss Edwards has developed lovely relationships with all of the children and has been a delight to work alongside! We will all miss her lots, and we hope that our paths will cross again! We wish you all the very best on your next placement and throughout the rest of your PGCE year!

Magic moments

All the children have been SO excited to get on the stage and rehearse for the Nativity. All the children have now had a session practising in the hall for their special dance within the Nativity. It has been such a joy to see the absolute joy and excitement on their faces! They are all super confident and are singing each song so clearly!

Let’s celebrate

A huge well done to Harry, who has been a curious and inquisitive learner this week. Harry, your curious attitude towards our learning has helped you to take big steps this half term. You have looked at ‘problems’ with an inquisitive mindset, which has allowed you to spot patterns and solve the problems whilst confidently articulating your reasons. This is a tremendous way to grow your brain! Well done Harry!

A huge well done to Summer who has been awarded the Star virtue this week. Summer throughout our Math’s lessons you have shown yourself to be a learning partner that others can have faith in. Faith that you will show them patience, kindness and respect. Creating an environment and partnership such as this, gives others the confidence to be brave and have a go. Thank you for bringing such an important virtue and quality into our learning environment. Well done Summer!

Reading

Only a couple of weeks left to hit your reading target- lets aim for at least 20 minutes of reading per day. You will be amazed by how much you can read in a week if you stick to this routine.

We have today been learning about relative clauses and how these add information to our sentences. They all start with relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which and that). Complete the sheet and highlight the different clauses in the sentences and circle the relative pronoun in each sentence.

KS2 Christmas Carol Practice

This week, we have learned three songs for our Christmas celebration which will be in church on Tuesday 16th December. Please practice and learn these off by heart - a whole song booklet will be sent out next week.

This week...

A week full of shape, space and measure!! Everyone has enjoyed the Numicon this week. It was a little bit tricky to start with: seeing number shapes, spaces and patterns which could fit together to fill a peg board…. mmmm big thinking!! Following our challenge of patterns we completed tow colour pattern and movement patterns! That was great fun! We will continue this next week…can’t wait!

Our phonic game was a huge challenge. We had to match the objects to the sound pebbles…fabulous! We kept changing the sounds to make it a lit more difficult. I can’t believe the resilience the children have developed this term. They don’t give up, just like Tommy Turtle!

Worship

This week in Worship we have continued our ‘Prophecy and promise’ topic. Our key words were BETHLEHEM, STABLE and MANGER.

In our first session we learnt what a manger was. We watched a lovely story all about a little mouse who found a stable and got into Jesus’ cosy bed. You can watch it here:

We are so good at remembering the wonderful story of how Jesus was born. We had some pictures and we had to put them in the correct order. We also love re-telling the story with our figures at our worship table. We sang ‘Away in a manger’ around baby Jesus is the crib – it was beautiful!

Our child led worship session was all about the shepherds. They were visited by an angel and were initially afraid but then travelled to visit baby Jesus. We watched a video that really made us think about how it was for them – we could hear the sheep and we saw the angel speaking to them. Here is the video for you to watch at home:

We finished our worship by listening to ‘While shepherds watched their flocks by night’ and we added our shepherds to our display in the classroom – I wonder who we will add next week?

 Our Faith Friends

This week Rachel came to school to tell us about the Jewish festival of lights- Hannukah. We found out about the foods they ate and the games they played. Rachel told us about a special candelabra called a hanukkiah, one candle for each day of the celebration. Nursery and Reception all had a play with a dreidel which is a four-sided spinning top, with a Hebrew letter on each side. The dreidel game is often played during Hanukkah. Players take it in turns to spin the dreidel, and win or lose pieces, depending on which letter it lands on.

Christmas events

We are hurtling at the speed of knots towards Christmas, and it is hard not to get caught up in the excitement it brings. Advent is my favourite time as we prepare and come together in lots of different ways. The nativities that we will see and the carol concerts that we will hear will, I am sure, enable us all to stop and reflect a little more.

This is also a period of fun and enjoyment and we are very good at that too. Next Thursday, the children are invited to come into school in their own clothes, but they must bring some chocolate with them that can be added to our raffle hampers. The following week it will be a bottle - any bottle (ketchup, bubble bath, alcohol) the choice is yours. All of these goodies will be collated for the hampers which can be won in the raffle. Thank you so much for the prizes we have received already; Stringers Voucher, Avanti Train Voucher, Beaverbrooks Necklace, Christmas tree and skirt, hair vouchers - please keep them coming in.

Pottery Night - last year we held our first pottery event in school and it is back again on Thursday 4th December. Please do come along after school ready to paint a decoration for your Christmas Tree. Decorations and paint will be provided, as well as refreshments. Please complete the booking form below with the people who are coming and support our fundraiser for school. Each person’s ticket will be £10 which includes the tree decoration and refreshments. Family Mass

On Sunday 7th December, we will have our next family mass. This is the second Sunday of Advent so it will be special to spend time together. Following the mass, there is a Christmas Fair taking place at the Parish Centre, which we hope you will be able to attend.

EYFS Nativity

Don’t forget that next week is EYFS Christmas Nativity. Have you got your tickets?

All the nursery children are invited to take part in the Nativity but if it is not your child’s usual day we kindly ask that you collect them straight after the performance, approximately 10.30 am. All children should be in nursery no later than 9.00am

Tuesday 2nd December will be our dress rehearsal. If possible it would be great if we could have all the children in nursery. This is also the day the Nativity DVD will be filmed.

If your child will not be present for one of the performances can you please let us know.

Year 4 Weekly blog. Friday 28th November "Advent is like a Springtime, when everything is renewed and so is fresh and healthy." (St Teresa of Calcutta)

This week we had our whole class assembly all about Catholic Social Teaching principles and the realisation that everyone is our neighbour. We were all so proud of how the children spoke with confidence and sung so beautifully. In our RE lessons, we have looked at the prophecy of Isaiah about the coming of Jesus and the voice in the wilderness who will prepare for Him - John the Baptist. This led us onto thinking about Advent as a time for us to prepare for the coming of Jesus. Children have made Advent promises that will help them to grow in goodness, ‘make their paths straight,’ and therefore grow closer to God. Our gospel worship has focused on preparing the way for our Lord.

We had a lovely worship from the children below all about how Jesus is our shepherd who guides us and we follow. One child drew the parallel that Jesus also becomes our sacrificial lamb.

In other news: We have been on our wonderful Egyptian trip today- and also we mummified a class member today! What a super day - packed with history. Pictures to follow later tonight. We have been learning how to understand, compare and order 4 digit numbers in maths and in English have focused on our Fairy Tale - ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin,’ practising our oracy skills of discussion, sentences with fronted adverbials and extended noun phrase sentences.In Science we have looked at different melting points of solids. In HRSE we have learned about drugs, alcohol and tobacco and how they can be harmful to our body.

Our certificate this week is a Tommy Turtle brave learner. This goes to Freddie. You are really having a go and realising you can be independent if you listen and believe you can do it. You are an intelligent young man who can do brilliant work!

Our virtues this half term are being faith-filled and hopeful. This week, Luca receives our star for growing in faith and putting it into action by striving to make good choice for the common good of all.

Year 6 Weekly Blog - “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness" Desmond Tutu

It is hard to believe that we are now coming up to the first week of Advent, the week of Hope. After a turbulent year which we see daily through the news, there is comfort to be found when we pause to read, pray, and reflect over the course of the Advent season in which we eagerly anticipate the celebration of Christ’s birth. The first Sunday of Advent gives us the opportunity to centre our thoughts on hope. It's a beautiful chance to remember the hope God offers our world, and what He's given us through Jesus. This week our teacher’s liturgy was centred around the word…advent. We discussed all the ways that we can prepare for the arrival of Jesus.

Thank you to the following children this week for leading us in a liturgy about one of our singificant females who appear in the old testament- Sarah, the wife of Abraham, who God gave a child at the age of 90 and who God promised would be the the ‘mother of all nations’. Then the children asked, as part of their ‘going forth’ mission- how can we be more like Sarah?

This week we have recieved feedback on our writing and then used this to reflect on what we needed to work on for our next paragraph- our whole class target is to focus on our sentence structure and our choice of vocabuary. In Maths we have been problem solving, using all our new subtraction strategies and been looking at what 10, 000 and 100, 000 is made up. During RE we have been reflecting on Mary, the Mother of God, and how she can help us in our daily lives. Mrs Marshall ,loves teaching them Science on a Friday, where they are currently learning all about the heart and the circulatory system!

We once again had a wonderful workshop to learn all about the Jewish Faith. The children had a wealth of knowledge already from our previous workshop, but the questions they asked were wonderfully curious and showed such a mature approach to learn about other faiths. In todays world, we need compassionate and understanding children who see beyond their own beliefs and respect other views and faiths, as these differences are what make our world such a beautiful and interesting place to be!

Christmas song practice

This week, we have practised three extra songs for our Christmas celebration which will be in church on Tuesday 16th December. Please practice and learn these off by heart - you have the whole Christmas booklet. I have left last weeks songs to practise too. All of year 6 have now been given ther script for the Carol concert, it would be great if childrne could be practising these to learn off by heart.

Christmas songs practice

Every year, our wonderful KS2 children prepare a carol service in church for the community. The service is full of prayer, scripture and song - it really is a special afternoon and evening. The children have been practising the songs in school and have all been given a song booklet so that they can pratise along with our recorded videos at home.

Girls Football Tournament- Tuesday 2nd December

Wyre & Fylde Girls Football Competition taking place at Poolfoot Farm, Thornton Cleveleys on Tuesday 2nd December 1:00pm-4:30pm

We have just received all of the details and fixtures regarding next Tuesday’s football tournament. With the pick up being earlier than usual and the distance to travel, I am imagine there will be some shared lifts to let Mr Cornwell or the office aware of who is going with who.

Girls Football Team - Daisy, Charlotte, Beth, Lena, Ellie-Rose, Mia-Grace, Emilia, Phoebe, Louisa

Given the information below, and the 35/40 minute travel time, please collect your child at no later than 12 midday from school. If your child can bring a packed lunch on Friday, they can eat in school at 11:45am. Plenty of snacks and fluids for the afternoon.

• ARRIVAL - Please allow plenty of time to travel and parking at the venue. Parking is limited at Poolfoot Farm so you may well have to park on adjoining roads and walk to the astro turf pitches. As you will see from the fixture schedule, we have lots of games to get through so games MUST START ON TIME OR WE WILL RUN OVER There will be a team manager briefing in front of the children's play park at 12:45pm ready for our first games to kick off at 1PM PROMPT! The later we start, the later we finish ;)

• FIXTURES & FORMAT - All fixtures and results will be accessed via the Tournify link at the bottom of this email, please share this link with your wider community as parents can then monitor your teams progress remotely. Please note that the times of the games are a GUIDE and will not be gospel however, we will be making every attempt to stick to the timings on the day. All games will be 10 minutes one way and teams will be 7 a side with an unlimited squad and substitutions. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE WEARING SHIN PADS. We will be adhering to the no heading rule at this event and will go through the ruling of this at the team manager briefing.

• THE GOOD OLD BRITISH WEATHER - Please keep an eye on the weather report and pack accordingly. The event is due to take place on astro turf so the surface will not be an issue however, should we feel that the elements will have too much of a detrimental effect on participants experience of the event then we will make a call the day before the event..........so if you don't hear from us, take it the event is going ahead! We have attempted to maximise the use of pitches and minimise waiting time accordingly so please dress warm, particularly in-between games and be ready for your next fixture.

• SMILE AND ENJOY! - This event will be officiated by young leaders so please ensure you, your players and the parents representing your school show their support.
