Read moreEvery year, our wonderful KS2 children prepare a carol service in church for the community. The service is full of prayer, scripture and song - it really is a special afternoon and evening. The night time is especially spectacular in the darkness of the church.
The carol service will be held on Tuesday 16th December at 2pm and 6pm in church. For the afternoon performance, the whole school will be walking down with us, children will then be collected from school afterwards. For the evening performance, KS2 children will need to be back at church for 5.45pm, ready to start at 6pm. The carol service will be finished by 7pm.
It really is the most special way to end our school Christmas celebrations and we know all of our KS2 children will be there.
Super busy week full of exciting learning see us at Forest School take over…….

Read moreThis week in our worship, we have looked at Jesus’ final moments on the cross and even in his dying hour, he showed truly what type of king he is. The children shared their thoughts of what type of king they think Jesus is and we portrayed these ideas onto our class crown. In our RE lessons, we have continued to reflect on Psalm 23 and look deeper into King David’s relationship with God. We have looked at Jesus this week and how he is the good shepherd, with us being his sheep.
In English, we have turned into newspaper reporters and have been analysing the features of some newspaper clippings this week. We have been applying our newly learnt grammar skills of relative clauses and have been including these in our own article writing. In our spelling lessons, we have been getting active in finding irregular past tense verbs and understanding that these carry the same meaning of the root word but are spelt differently.
In Maths, we have been working really hard with our tricky negative number word problems which apply to real life such as temperature change, elavation drops and going up and down in a lift. We then started our new unit , which is one of our biggest, of multiplication. We started by multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers by partitioning our larger number by using the grid method.
On Thursday, we had a lovely visit from the Fylde Council Recycling Team to talk to KS2 about the important of recycling and to inform us on how to use our bins correctly. Test your children at home on which items go in each bin so they can help out around the house.
Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are faith-filled and hopeful. Our winner this week goes to Mia-Grace. You have become a much more hopeful person Mia-Grace and it is amazing to see- looking for the positives in every situation. You treat every member your class with such kindness and respect and this definitely links towards your faithfulness and your relationship with God.
Learner of the Week: This week, our learner of the week goes to Lucia for being an reflective and enthusiastic learner. I have seen a big shift in your focus, determination and enthusiasm for your learning this half term Lucia. You are getting so much more out of your learning and you yourself are starting to see the benefits- keep it up!
Homework- Please check the homework blog for your child’ weekly homework, including the deadline date.
Travelling Nativity has started to go home so please use this as a special time to connect with Jesus and to get you in the Christmas spirit! This will need to be brought back in the following school day.
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Parental Guidance- We are currently reading this book as our class novel. We are due to finish the book just before Christmas and are hoping to watch the film during Christmas memory week. If you have any queries or issues about your child watching this film, please email me. If no emails are received, I will take this as a yes to your child being okay to watch the film.
Thursday 27th November- We will be having an own clothes day in order to raise funds for our Christmas raffle. Instead of bringing £1, could all children bring in a chocolate bar, which will be a part of the raffle.
We have began to prepare for our KS2 Christmas Carol Concert which is taking place on Tuesday 16th December. Song lyrics and recordings of our songs are on the homework blog for you to practice.
This week, Year 3 have been getting ready for Advent. We thought about how Advent is a special time of waiting and preparing our hearts for Jesus. Each child created a colourful handprint and wrote a personal Advent promise on it—something kind, thoughtful or helpful they want to focus on over the next few weeks. These look beautiful on display in our school worship area.
Read moreA great start to the week with PJ Day! Everyone was snug and comfy for the day. Thank you for supporting us raising money for a very important cause, Brian House Hospice. Brian House is the only children’s hospice on the Fylde coast, and offers specialist care to our community’s most fragile children and their families. Whether they are the hospice or being supported at home, the staff and their work help to create lasting memories and fun, as all children should have.
The learning landscape this week changed again…there were birthday cake number challenges, sound hunting, shape making with elastic bands and best of all we found out about ‘fossils’. We even became paleantologists, dug in the sand to uncover dinosaur fossils, and made our own fossil using clay. Click here to find out about what a paleantologist is.
Justine and the children made nearly life sized dinosaurs using reclaimed materials! They are really scary! An update on our dinosaur egg that we found in the nursery garden…it has hatched! The shell cracked open and a triceratops came out…Barbara took a video and we watched it on the Touch TV, sadly she left the door open and it has escaped, arghhh! Keep a look out for it, we spotted dinosaur footprints in forest school
Worship
This week in Worship we have continued our ‘Prophecy and promise’ topic. Our key words DONKEY, JOURNEY and BETHLEHEM.
We began our first session talking about a long journey – have we ever been on a long journey? What was it like? We spoke about how long it would have taken Mary and Joseph to get to Bethlehem and how tired they must have been. We watched this lovely video all about a special donkey: click here to watch.
Our second session was all about the special story of Jesus being born. We had pictures telling the story and we had to find them al hidden around the room. We are so good at remembering the story – we have our stable now on the worship table and we can’t wait to add all the special animals and people as we learn more and more during Advent.
Our child led worship this week was also all about Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. We watched a video of what it might have been like, click here. It gave us a really good idea of what it might have been like. We saw Mary, Joseph and the donkey. One of the children also noticed there were lots and lots of people. We spoke about how busy it would have been as everyone was going to be counted, and that’s why there was nowhere for them to stay.
Christmas Nativity
This years Nativity is being held for parents and family on Wednesday 3rd December and Thursday 4th December at 9.30 am. Owing to fire regulation these performances will be ticket only events, with a limit of 4 per family over the two performance. Please get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
All the nursery children are invited to take part in the Nativity but if it is not your child’s usual day we kindly ask that you collect them straight after the performance, approximately 10.30 am. All children should be in nursery no later than 9.00am
Tuesday 2nd December will be our dress rehearsal. If possible it would be great if we could have all the children in nursery. This is also the day the Nativity DVD will be filmed.
If your child will not be present for one of the performances can you please let us know.
PLEASE NOTE
We have the star costumes ready but each child will need a pair of named plain white leggings, a plain white t shirt and a strand of silver tinsel. Please bring them into nursery by Monday if possible.
The children are doing so well learning all the songs and actions for their Nativity, perhaps they will sing them at home for you.
An even busier week next week as we edge closer to the start of Advent and our journey to the stable. Have a restful weekend and I will see you all on Monday.
Stay safe and God bless
Barbara
Everyone has been given a reading target to complete over half term (there should be a post it note in their book). Rocket reading targets will reset and be changed over half term so make sure you are ready to quiz when you come back to school!
We have today been learning about relative clauses and how these add information to our sentences. They all start with relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which and that). Complete the sheet and highlight the different clauses in the sentences and circle the relative pronoun in each sentence.
The children have got 2 sheets to complete in their homework books.
Multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers using the grid method.
We have changed our spelling practice lessons in school to focus more on retrieval spellings- especially our high frequency and common words.
This week, we have learned three songs for our Christmas celebration which will be in church on Tuesday 16th December. Please practice and learn these off by heart - a whole song booklet will be sent out next week.
This week in RE we have discovered a new word, ‘Visitation’. We listened to the Gospel from Luke and heard all about Mary visiting Elizabeth. We made finger puppets of both Elizabeth and Mary and the children worked with their learning partner to retell this piece of scripture. Our prayer and liturgy has been focused around the words, ‘King’ and ‘mercy’ we listened to a piece of scripture about Jesus on the cross next to two criminals, Jesus showed mercy to the criminal who asked Jesus to remember him when he enters the Kingdom of heaven. We then thought carefully about how we can be merciful this week…
Question to ask: We have been focusing on our understanding of important vocabulary in RE. Please ask the question, “What can you tell me about the Visitation?”
Sometimes it is easy to forget that the children have only been in Year 1 for 12 weeks; but this week we have taken a moment to really celebrate just how much the children have achieved. This was particularly evident during our English lessons this week when we saw just how independent the children are becoming with their writing. The confidence that they have in their own abilities has grown tremendously and they are recognising what they can achieve thanks to their focus and determination. During a sentence writing task many said “I’m going to write even more!”. We know there are many more of these magic moments to come this year!
A huge well done to Noah who has been a focused Cooper Crab this week. Noah, your focus this half term has helped you to go from strength to strength. You have written some brilliant sentences in English, showing how much you are growing in confidence and how you are remembering to be brave and have a go. During Phonics, we have spoken about focusing on becoming speedy readers and my goodness have you risen to the challenge! We are so proud of you Noah and we love seeing you shine! Well done Noah!
A huge well done to Mollie who has received the Star award for demonstrating our Faith filled and Hopeful virtues this week. Mollie, you have a wonderfully positive outlook on all aspects of school life. Towards your peers, the staff and towards all of our learning. You take on any challenge with the faith that you will do your best and that any experience is an exciting opportunity for learning. Thank you for bringing this ray of sunshine and positivity into our class and into our school! Well done Mollie!

Have a lovely weekend!
This week in our RE lessons, we have delved further into our understanding of prophets. First children learned about Elijah’s journey and the difficulties and delights he faced. Then they compared Mark and Matthew’s accounts of John the Baptist to find out that he was a preacher, a prophet and a witness to Jesus Christ.
We had a lovely worship from Henry S, Henry O and Scarlet all about Jesus’s question, “Who do you say I am.” Many thought He was a prophet like Elijah. However, as John the Baptist said, he is Isaiah’s prophesied Saviour - and Peter recognised this. This Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King and in class we have learned in the Gospel about Jesus’ final moments - when again He was recognised by the criminal next to Him as God’s Son.
This week, 3 children went to the Grand Theatre as they are our Shakespeare Ambassadors. They had a great time on stage - having a sneak preview of Hamlet and discussing exciting ideas going forward.
We have started our new English topic on Fairy Tales after finishing our AMAZING explanations about how different seeds disperse. Have a look at examples of their work below. Children learned about the discovery of Tutenkhamun’s tomb in History this week and wrote newspaper reports all about it!
We have also started practising for our Key Stage 2 Christmas carol service in church.
History
How did Howard Carter discover the tomb of Tutankhamun?
RE
Who was John the Baptist?
Our certificate this week is a Cooper Crab focused learner. This goes to Elsie. You are becoming so dedicated to learning well Elsie. You are alert and attentive and you are trying hard to give 100% focus to your work. Well done!
Our virtues this half term are being faith-filled and hopeful. This week, Xander receives our star for being so hopeful when faced with challenging situations. You are so full of faith in RE and it shines through in your work.

This week, we have reflected on the gospel and the word ‘king’.This celebration of the word is the last of the Liturgical year, celebrating the feast of ‘Christ the King’. Jesus refers to His Kingdom not being of this world. We shared how God’s kingdom is within each of our hearts, and we have to let this Kingdom shine through. We then discussed what Jesus was like as a king and how we can be kings today- what type of leader would He want us to be?
Thank you also to our three prayer leaders or who led us in a beautiful liturgy earlier this week…
And in the blink of an eye…another week in Year 6 has passed. From the minute that the children walk into class in the morning to the moment that they walk out of the door, they are constantly learning and challenging themselves to be the best that they can be. It really astounds me just how much work that the children have completed. As we approach Advent, and the birth of Jesus Christ, we continue to strive to be Faithfilled and Hopeful in our actions, which are our two virtues this half term. Next week, we will make our advent promises ready for the whole school display, thinking about the ways we can prepare ourselves and our hearts ready for the birth of Christ.
Learning is always fast paced in Year 6 and this week has been no exception. This week in Maths we have been adjusting the calculations to be more efficient and accurate. We have been analysing our class novel, working on our sentence structure and writing a descriptive paragraph for one of the scenes. In science, we have looked at anomalies in data and learning about why these may happen. In RE we have been learning about the female protagonists of the old testament and comparing this to the roles of women wihin our church today- raising the question…
Do women play a big enough role with our church today? What roles can they do?
Have you discussed leading on from our lesson earlier this week how our body changes as you get older?
This week we have the following children helping to take the younger children to their class:
Well done to Gus this week.
Gus we have been so impressed with the way you have reflected on your writing targets, listening to the feedback given and taking advice. This has helped you to be particularly focused in English, learning the best you can to enable you to use these skills in your writing. We can see how determined you are to reach your goals! You have been super reflective in your approach, celebrating the areas you have achieved and recognising what you need to work on. This self-reflection has meant that we can see a marked improvement in your writing- keep it up Gus!
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are intention in their actions. Children who show great faith in themselves, others and God. We will also be spotting children who are hopeful, who show hope for the future, enabling us to trust ourselves and those around us with the decisions that will shape our future. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Seth for being faithfilled and hopeful.
Please see year 6 homework section to learn the songs ready for our Christmas concert- you will now have been given a song bookelt to help you learn the words.

Tudor morning in Year 6- Tuesday 16th Decemeber- Tudor costumes at the ready, but we will need to bring our school uninforms to get changed in to ready for the Christmas concert!
For the last 7 months Joseph has worked incredibly hard rehearsing for this fantastic show at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool. It looks like a fabulous show- if you love the film ‘Nativity’ then you will love this show! Well done Joseph, we are all very proud of you! If you get the chance on the run up to Christmas, it will be definitely worth a visit!
Have a lovely weekend with your family.

What a lovely and reflective week it has been in Year 5. Our worship leaders this week led us in a beautiful and heart touching liturgy on Tuesday as this marked Armistice Day. We used this as a time to remember those who are resting in heaven and to never forget. The children took a display poppy to write down the name of their loved one who are were remembering. In RE, we have continued looking into the life of David as Mrs Gregan reflected on his reign as king and the children referred to scripture to support their reasonings. To finish off, the children created their own crowns to reflect the qualities of King David. Later in the week, we analysed David’s famous Psalm 23 which portrayed his relationship with God. The children then reflected on their relationship with God to create their own psalm. Can you remember what number your psalm was and why we chose that number?
In English, we have zoned in on our non-fiction texts and started to look at the features of an article (can you remember all 8 features?) We applied this knowledge by analysing our first article text. In Maths, we have been continuing with negative numbers and have been applying these into various contexts such as temperature, sea level and hotel floors. We then broke down tricky word problems of these examples and created number lines to help answer these questions. In Geography, we have been looking into the countries and cities of the world as we expand on our knowledge of the world map. This week, we have been looking at capital cities- how many capital cities can you remember? In PE, we have begun our new sport of netball and have been applying various different types of passes.
Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are faith-filled and hopeful. Our winner this week goes to Martha. You are just so faith-filled Martha! You have such a positive outlook on life and you treat everyone with such kindness. Your learning partners really do appreciate these qualities and this allows you to build such loving relationships amongst school.
Learner of the Week: This week, our learner of the week goes to Ava for being an focused and enthusiastic learner. I have noticed a real shift in your focus and enthusiasm in this new half term Ava. You have reflected on the advice given to you by your trusted adults and have applied yourself brilliantly to all aspects of your learning and this is really starting to pay off- fantastic work!
