Year 5 Weekly Blog 09.05.25- 'Our first duty is to communicate the beauty and joy of knowing Jesus'- Pope Leo XIV
In RE, we have looked at the story of the ‘Lost Son’ or ‘The Prodigal Son’. We reflected on the selfishness of the son and the greed his possessed but more importantly the forgiveness of the father in his return. The children were able to link the ripple effect to this and explain how actions, good or bad, have consequences.
It may have been a short week but what a week it has been, certainly one to remember in the history books. From Wednesday onwards, we have been glued to the BBC live stream of the Conclave as we were anticipating the release of smoke from the Sistine Chapel. It was fitting that on Thursday, the day of the Pope’s announcement, that we were in celebrating of VE Day 80. The school gathered together in unison during a picnic and moments of reflection.
Apologies for last weeks lack of photos so here is two weeks of Year 5 loving life in forest school!
This week, we have been learning…
Maths- We been smashing short division with 3 digit x 1 digit numbers and have also been looking at how we can multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.
Science- We have finished Newton’s 3 laws of motion with us diving into his third and final law of action/reaction and looking at how this applies to real life examples.
History- We have begun our new topic of Crime and Punishment this week as we look back through a 800 year journey into how both crime and punishment has changed throughout history.
PE- We have been applying our teamwork skills and knowledge of counter balances to perform these using apparatus.
Conversation starters
RE- We have been testing our conscience with some moral dilemmas in class. Do your parents know any good moral dilemmas that they can put you to the test with?
English- We have began our discussions text topic and have been creating points of view for our school themed questions.
Should mobile phones be banned in schools?
Should school uniform be compulsory?
discuss these with your parents and see what they think.

Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday 9th May - " Let us never forget their sacrifice"
We have been so lucky this week with the beautiful weather! We have picnicked and played in the sun! In class, we’ve been pattern spotting in maths and exploring the rainforest. Read on to find out more!
Read moreYear 6 Weekly Blog 9.5.25 ' We are disciples of Christ, Christ goes before us, and the world needs His light' Pope Leo XIV
What a momumental week we have had in school. This week all our thoughts and liturgies have been centred around celebrating VE day and the 80 year anniversary, as well as the appointing of the new pope! This week we have remembered the soldiers and people during World War times who helped to bring peace and thanking them for bringing us this peace and freedom, whilst appreicating how we can all live in peace now beacuse of them. We celebrated this as a whole school community, in our red, white and blue, with a whole school picnic on the playground, listening to war -time songs!
There was much excitment coming in to school on Friday, discussing the appointment of the new Pope Leo XIV, our first American pope, who will be our spiritual leader, leading the Church in faith, working for peace and justice around the world- how fitting to be appointed on the 80 year anniversary of VE day!
Faithful God,
You guide us on the path of life
and your goodness is our constant companion.
Be with our new Shepherd, Pope Leo XIV,
in his service of the Church.
Fill him with the power of your Spirit,
the peace of your presence
and the compassion of Christ.
May he walk with you,
in wisdom and humility,
and lead us, together with all God’s people,
to embody your love for the world.
Amen.
After working with the children this week, we feel nothing but pride. The way the children have come in to school every day and giving their absolute best, no matter how they are feeling on the inside, is truly amazing! Each one of them are overcoming barriers and challenges, no matter how big or how small and this process is making them see, that hard work, over a long period of time, really does pay off. This week we celebrated all the children, not on their marks of their final practice papers, but on the progress they have made and for some, this has been huge! We have worked SUPER hard this week on the areas we needed to, and the children couldn’t do any more, other than remember what we always say in class… YOUR BEST IS ALWAYS GOOD ENOUGH.
Going Forward …
Monday will be the start of the children’s SAT’s journey and they are extremely ready for this! There will, of course, be some nerves and anticipation this weekend on the run up, but the most important thing to do over the next few days is to relax, exercise, have plenty of sleep and eat healthily. We need those brains ready and raring to go! It would be a good idea if the children, did a little revision (small doses) to keep their learning ticking over, we have sent a short reading task to complete over the weekend ready for Monday, a punctuation revision map to prepare them for their grammar on Tuesday, and they could always have a look at IXL or ‘maths is fun’ for their maths. It may just give them a bit of practice and confidence before the week begins. On Friday, the children set up the hall ready for Monday, so they all know exactly what they are walking in to and where to sit - I think there was even some excitement by the time we left the hall!
Next week’s timetable is as follows so that you know which each day holds. Please ensure that your child is in school on time after a really good night sleep and a substantial breakfast…
Monday am: Grammar, punctuation and Spelling test.
pm: Reading revision focus
Tuesday am: Reading test
Pm: Maths revision focus
Wednesday am: Arithmetic and Reasoning 1 test
pm: Maths revision focus
Thursday am: Maths Reasoning 2 test
pm: read through of script (yey!)
Friday am - auditions for the play!
The following week is residential and Thursday will be the interview for jobs around school (dress to impress)
Onwards and Upwards…
The following Monday, of course, is their forthcoming ‘holiday’ to Winmarleigh. The teachers are all getting ready and looking forward to spending a few days with Year 6, it is the perfect way to end this half term- making memories, with the class and teachers, they have gone through school with, as well as pushing themselves to do things they have never done before. These children are capable of great things and I know we are going to have a great time away with them.
I have listed some essential information below which you will need to think about and know. Again, if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
On Monday 19th May, the children need to arrive at school through the normal way (playground) at 8:45am. Please bring all bags and drop them off in the ‘All Stars’ room, next door to Year 6. Parents on this day are able to bring the children in to school via the playground with their bags where they can then say their goodbyes. There will be members of staff there to help and direct you. The children will need one case/bag with their main clothes in and a back pack for the coach with any smaller items in.
All children must bring a packed lunch with them for the first day. Please make sure there is plenty of water and no fizzy drinks please. The packed lunch box they will use on this day, will then be re-used to put their sandwiches in on Thursday. So please make sure you pack a proper Tupperware.
If your child needs any medication for the week, this needs to be in a separate bag - clearly labelled - and given to the member of staff who will be at the medicine table in the ‘All Stars’ room. The form below needs to be completed which will indicate the medication, when it needs administering and how much needs to be administered. Please bring this with you on the day with the medicine (not before).
Bedding- Children are required to bring their own duvet/ sleep bag and pillow. The bed sheet will be provided for. Please make sure you wrap the duvet and pillow up in a bin liner to protect it but it needs to have a BIG, CLEAR label on to show who’s is who, as you can imagine the chaos once we get there, when everyone needs to get their bags etc off the coach! Children should be familiar with their own bedding etc to ensure they recongise their own once they are there, in case labels disappear- so don’t pack for them.
Talent Show - Next week, I will be asking the children what their talent show act is and if they have any music etc. Please can you ensure that the act your child is doing is totally appropriate. I will be checking this next week. Anything that the children need for the talent show needs to be brought in on the morning of departure. If it fits in your child’s case - brilliant! Please ensure that they have any music that they need too.
Final balance - please ensure that the final balance has been paid please- any difficulties please speak to Mrs Nel.
On the Wednesday, our coach will be picking us up from Borwick Hall at 2pm, so we aim to arrive back approximately 3:30pm at the latest. However, this is traffic dependent, so therefore, we will be in contact with school to give a more accurate time and then you will receive a text message, so you know when to come and collect them.
I know you have a kit list list which I am sure you have all studied, but just a couple of reminders of the vital items:
no valuable or electrical items please (apart from a hairdryer if necessary)
make sure all clothing items are labelled with names
does your child suffer from travel sickness, if so they are able to take travel sickness tablets to avoid illness but please make sure it is added to the medical form.
packed lunch box and refillable bottle
indoor and outdoor shoes
sun cream and sun hat!
a book or a notebook to write in for quiet time.
talent show- if music is required, then please send the song either as a mp3 file, USB stick or a CD as their is not a great Wi-Fi connection at all.
bags will be carried by the children and have to be lifted up stairs by themselves up to their rooms, so please make sure you pack lightly.
Delving deeper through talk …
What have you done this week to make you feel proud of yourself?
What are you looking forward to most in these final weeks of Primary School?
This week we will take a break from helping in the mornings and start again after the half term!
Have a lovely restful weekend ready for a busy couple of weeks.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 9th May "To live well is to love God with all your heart." St Augustine
This week’s worship has centred around listening to Jesus in order to live a good life. Like sheep to a shepherd, following Him and trusting He knows what is best for us. In RE this week, children looked at The Creed - the statement of their faith. They have tried the unconsecrated host and are so ready to take that next step in faith to make their Holy Communion.
Children were full of awe in Science this week. We have started a new topic on sound. Equipped with a ukelele and cymbals, children watched carefully to figure out what causes sound. We learned about soundwaves needing a medium to travel through and this reminded us of our solids, liquids and gases work from earlier in the year.
This week in maths, children have learned how to convert fractions from mixed numbers to improper fractions. This was tricky - but we are developing our fraction sense.
We delve deeper into our novel in English. Children have learned how to write setting descriptions and have looked at how an author can create two settings which really contrast each other by their choice of language.
We had a super History lesson this week. Children looked at recent excavations and sources of evidence which show the Vikings in a better light. They realised we cannot just paint them as vicious warriors - there was more to them than that. THey produced some excellent work, explaining what each piece of evidence proved about this race of people.
They then took this into their PE lesson, adding to their Viking boat dance and showing the Vikings settling peacefully into their villages.

This week....
A week of remembrance and celebrations. We have been preparing for our VE Day picnic by putting up the bunting, making union flags to wave and celebratory VE day crowns!! Luckily the sun was out to make the day FANTASTIC. it was so lovely to be out on the field with the whole school. Siblings and friends across the classes were able to eat and play together.
We started the week by watching the video that we looked at for Remembrance Day. The children were able to describe what was happening and how war made them feel and that we had all made a remembering poppy. Click here to watch again at home. We then discussed that when the fighting had finished there was peace in our country and we learnt the sign for ‘peace’. and made a ‘peace wreath’.
Take a look at our wonderful celebration!
Forest school
Last Friday it was our turn for forest school. We absolutely love it. We visited our tadpoles in their new home. Listened to environmental sounds and did some forest bathing under the canopy of the trees. It was so tranquil and calming, although it was tricky to get in to the hammock! As a treat we had juice and Jammy Dodgers!
Emma’s blog
Hello everyone,
The sunshine is still shining for us all, and the children just love playing and learning in the garden.
This week, we have been exploring the number 8. The children have been working out how many legs an octopus has (one of our friends brought a cuddly octopus into nursery and was telling their friends about its 8 legs. The children drew their own octopus and counted each leg, making sure they had 8.
As a fine motor activity we made a picture of Rapunzel with her long hair, then clipped and counted 8 pegs on to her long hair! This was tricky but the children ‘had a go’ like Tommy Turtle.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
See you all on Monday

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.
We have had a very busy week of learning. We have worked very hard practising writing numbers 8. If you would like to practice at home, here is the rhyme; ‘s' to start, looking great, loop back up and there’s your 8’. Don't forget to use your duck fingers. We have also been counting out objects to 8. Why not have a go at home. I'm sure you will be amazed at how well your child can count. Don't forget to touch each object as you count it.
We then had a go at singing the number 8 rap Click here.
Thank you
Have a lovely weekend

Luca, Jacob, Jude Cl, Michael and Danny led our worship this week, we listened to Acts 1 ‘Jesus is King’ and heard how Jesus stayed for 40 days with his Disciples teaching and encouraging them. Jesus explained that he would leave them again but the Holy Spirit would help and guide them once he had gone. Jesus would be ruling the world from his new position, seated at the right hand of His Father.
Thank you for leading our class worship, you will be our prayer leaders this week.

Yet another week has flown by in our shortest half term of the year. It was nice to get a full week under of belts in this summer term before another bank holiday awaits us. The weather has dominated the week with sky high temperatures. It is important to make sure children come into school with a water bottle and are all sun creamed up and roll on or spray cream can be brought into school to apply later in the day. Regardless of the extreme temperatures, the children have still thrown themselves into their learning. Whether if its been argument building in English, multiplication in maths or understanding the laws of physics in science, the children have continued to work really hard.
This week, we have been learning…
Maths- We have been using our new written methods of long and short multiplication to calculate numbers way beyond 12 x 12 such as 3 digit times by 1 digit numbers.
Science- We have continued with our focus of motion and have looked into our final scientist of this theory- Isaac Newton. We have started to look at his three laws of motion and how these apply to our day to day lives.
History- We have begun our new topic of Crime and Punishment this week as we look back through a 800 year journey into how both crime and punishment has changed throughout history.
RE- We have been discussing what is a sin in detail and relating this to our personal lives. We then progressed to how we use our conscience to prevent us from making sins. We then put our conscience to the test by analysing some moral dilemmas as we shared our own personal views on different social situations.
Conversation starters
RE- We have been looking into the life of Pope Francis and discovering how Pope’s are granted a coat of arms, which is a badge/emblem to represent your name. Talk to your parents and grandparents and see if your family name has a coat of arms.
English- We have began our discussions text topic and have been creating points of view for our school themed questions.
Are class council sessions necessary?
Should homework be doubled or banned completely?
discuss these with your parents and see what they think.
Let’s Celebrate
Learning certificate for being enthusiastic and determined goes to Daisy: You have been super determined in our maths lessons this week- it has been incredible! From the first minute of long multiplication you have loved it and have been willing to use your break times to do more questions. This enthusiasm has also been seen in our English unit with you wanting to share your points of view during our discussion questions.
Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are active and curious. Our winner this week goes to Finley. You are so curious with your wisdom Finley it is amazing. You love to apply this wisdom by being so active in lessons by adding all of your existing knowledge, along with our learnt skills.

This week’s worship has centred around the story of Peter reconciling with the risen Christ. Children in RE this week have also learned the difference between an apostle and a disciple. They learned that the twelve disciples became apostles when Jesus bestowed on them the same gifts He had from His Father.
Our Holy Communion sessions are going really well. Children have learned about the eucharist. When we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, we become His body on earth and are called to be like Him.
We had a lovely trip to the Grand theatre to watch the RSC’s production of ‘The Tempest.’ It was lovely to watch the children recognise their own lines that they spoke on stage and watch them figure out what was happening.
This week in maths, children have learned how to add and subtract fractions larger than one whole. They are now learning how to convert fractions from mixed numbers to improper fractions.
A busy week in English! We have been learning more about the characters in our novel - they are very unusual and inspiring, especially the lead character, a girl named Lila. Children have written their own character descriptions using their year 4 features and have also written a persuasive letter. I am confident they have mastered these now.
In History, this week, children looked at two different accounts about the Vikings - one written by Anglo-Saxon monks, the other from the same year by Vikings themselves. Children learned to question evidence and form their own opinion based on it.
They then took this into their PE lesson with a Viking boat dance - see below

Year 6 Weekly Blog ‘My God will supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory by Jesus Christ’ Philippians 4:19
Did you know we are now in Eastertide? A period of 50 days after Easter in which we see Jesus show us that He was alive. But how did he do this? In whole class liturgy this week we looked at John’s gospel and reflected on our ongoing friendship with the risen Jesus. In this gospel, Jesus shared a miraculous breakfast with His disciples and we discussed how we can trust that He will always provide for our needs… because he loves us always!
Continuing to learn…
We only have one more (short) week until SAT’s. It is vital over this long weekend that children continue to revise and work towards their targets. I have set some papers to complete over the week for children to have a go at, but there are other areas that are unique to them as individuals that they know they also have to practice. Please have a look at the homework page and have the conversation with them to see how best to support them with their revision. This week we have had a practise SAT’s week, where every day they have took one mock, whether this is independently or in partners. We are so proud how they have tackle this with such a positive attitude and resilience!
English - This week we have revised our determiners and prepositions!
Maths - We have tackled some tricky ratio problems with Mrs Harrison, revised BODMAS with Mrs Barker and also revised converting measures, which we will contunue next week.
Delving deeper through talk ….
What do you think certain items around your houehold weighs or measures? Can you convert these measurments, for example weigh in grams and kg?
With only one week left until SAT’s what is the one area you want to practise and master? How can your parent help you?
Curious and Active stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are curious in their , finding God in all things. Those who are active, who use their learning for the common good. Those who learn through actively engaging through probing, seeking, asking, challenging and questioning until the truth is plain. These children are the role models of the school, who drive their own learning and who have the wisdom to know when and how to apply one’s learning. This week we thank Michael for being both curious and wise.
Leading Learners
Well done to Bella this week.
Bella It is so important to apply the skills you have been taught and to do this independently- you have shown that you CAN. You have learnt to be thorough, take your time but mostly believe in yourself as you can do anything you put your mind to! Well done for reflecting on feedback and doing what you can to improve. You are also very honest about what you need to work on and are always happy to share this, ready to rise to a challenge.

This week...
The weather keeps getting better and better…and we are loving it! Whenever possible we have chosen to do our learning outdoors. Our tadpoles are getting bigger and bigger, no back legs yet though. On Wednesday Mrs. Tierney took some of the tadpoles to a new home in the forest school garden pond. they all look happy and settled in their new environment.!
The meadow seeds we planted a few weeks ago have germinated and started to grow. The children have been popping to the poly tunnel each day to water the veggies…not shooting yet.
Worship
This week in prayer and liturgy Mrs. Gregan told the story of doubting Thomas. In the Bible, the apostle Thomas initially doubted the accounts of Jesus' resurrection from the other disciples. This story is often used to teach us about faith, trust, and the importance of having a belief system, while also acknowledging that some people may have doubts. Hello everyone
We have really enjoyed being outside this week in the sunshine. The sun makes everyone feel so happy, including our tadpoles, which are growing really big now. The children can't wait to see their legs start to grow.
We read a story called Rapunzel as part of our ‘Once Upon a Time’ learning thread. Rapunzel had very long hair in the story, so we thought we could grow our own Rapunzel ‘hair’ from cress. The children used a plastic see-through cup so they could see when the seeds started to geminate…it didn’t take long. We put cotton wool inside the cup to make a cosy bed for the seeds, gave them a drink of water and put them where it was light and bright. We waited. The children drew Rapunzel’s face on the cup so the cress would represent her hair. Everyday we checked to see if the seeds had germinated, and within 6 days, the children’s Rapunzels all had cress hair! The children used a ruler to see how long the cress had grown. Some of the childrens cress had grown to 12cm long. Here is a video of the story Rapunzel. Enjoy.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and enjoy the sunshine.

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.
We have had glorious weather this week and we have made the most of it as we continue to watch the tadpoles grow bigger. We are still waiting for them to start growing legs but they are getting much bigger now.
We have started our research about all things ‘creepy crawlie’ as we set off on a bug hunt. We found woodlice, slugs, spiders and ants. We hope to find many more. Why don't you go on your own bug hunt? Click here.
We have been practising our positional language skills and checked our learning by having a quiz at home. Click here.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the weather

Next Thursday nursery will be joining the whole school for a picnic lunch on the field. If your child is present on that day we are asking if they could wear red, white and blue coloured clothing!!! Let’s hope the sun continues to shine!
Have a fabulous Bank Holiday weekend everyone. I have lots of gardening planned in the sunshine, maybe followed by a little snooze!
See you on Tuesday
Stay safe and God Bless

Year 2 weekly blog Friday 2nd May "Love Our Lady. And she will obtain abundant grace to help you conquer in your daily struggle." Josemaria Escriva
This week we turn to Our Lady. The month of May has begun and so does our adoration for Jesus’ mother. Our Worship table has a beautiful statue and next week we will share the Rosary during worship time. If you have rosary beads at home please bring them into class and they can sit on the altar ready to be used. In RE we explored the Ascension of Our Lord and paid attention to what he asked the disciples to do - “wait in the city for the power to come”. We understand that they didn’t know what Jesus was telling them but they trusted him and waited. Now we wait too trust for Pentecost.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
Next week we start our new Geography Topic - we’ll be looking at the rainforest. What is the rainforest and where would you find it in the world? Unfortunately, the rainforest is being chopped down it is so important to our world. Watch this Laudato Si' video for our common home - a message from Pope Francis - click the picture to open the video.
MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING
The highlight of our week was our trip to the Theatre. We watched The Tempest with our lovely Year 4 partner class. The characters came to life and even though it was tricky to follow it was a visual feast and we really empathised with Ariel and Caliban. In class our drama lessons led to writing and we’ve written as Ariel once more - this time we were responding to feedback - this is something that we will keep doing so that we strive to achieve all our Year 2 goals. We’ve had fun with Mrs Mather in Art and Miss Bassett is really enjoying teaching time - this is the time to get a learning watch to wear in school- I’ve attached an image here. We’ve set up a germination experiment in science and we complete the week with -Theatre Reviews and gardening!

This week our Star Virtue goes to Heidi - Heidi is such an active and curious learner - not only that but she shares her friendship openly and lovely every single day.
Our Learning award goes to Alfie. Thank you Alfie for being a super enthusiastic scientist (again). You have consistently demonstrated resilience with your writing and maths. Thank you for being a great role model.
