Maths Mastery Parent Project final survey

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support with the mastery for maths parents project. We loved having you all in school to share the games and approaches taken in school with the Mastering Number program. We are seeking to give the children confidence their number facts and recall them with ease. We will be running the program again next year in KS 1. This time we will invite you in the Autumn term we look forward to taking the maths further together.

READING

Please continue to read every night. During one of our “My Happy Mind Lessons” all about ENGAGEMENT - we were challenged to set goals. The class came up with three, the second one is to complete 2 quizzes each week. The children are determined! Please enjoy listening to your child every evening.

SPELLING AND HANDWRITING

We have 3 dictations this week. These are tricky - they have red words (common exception words we are trying to master). They also have apostrophes and some spelling rules!!!!! Can you spot them all?

MATHS

The children have got into their TT rockstars. Please continue to practice 2;s, 5’s, 10’s multiplication only (at the moment) - remember to skip count your groups.

School Football Trials 2025/26

At the end of this school year, we are hosting our trials for next years school football teams.

If you are currently in Year 4 and 5 and are interested in playing for the team next year, please complete the form below and attend both of the sessions dated below if possible.

We have had 4 teams this year such as a girls team and 3 boys teams.

Even if you played in the football team last year, you will still have to try out again to keep your place or you can try out in a new position.

The dates for these trials will be after school on;

This tournament will be held at LSA after school between 3:45-5:00.

Please pick your child up from the school office at 3:15pm for a 3:45 kick off.

The tournament will be played on astroturf so astro trainers will be needed.

Please bring your football kit, shin pads and your trainers in a spare bag to get changed at school, before being picked up.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 09.05.25- 'Our first duty is to communicate the beauty and joy of knowing Jesus'- Pope Leo XIV

In RE, we have looked at the story of the ‘Lost Son’ or ‘The Prodigal Son’. We reflected on the selfishness of the son and the greed his possessed but more importantly the forgiveness of the father in his return. The children were able to link the ripple effect to this and explain how actions, good or bad, have consequences.

It may have been a short week but what a week it has been, certainly one to remember in the history books. From Wednesday onwards, we have been glued to the BBC live stream of the Conclave as we were anticipating the release of smoke from the Sistine Chapel. It was fitting that on Thursday, the day of the Pope’s announcement, that we were in celebrating of VE Day 80. The school gathered together in unison during a picnic and moments of reflection.

Apologies for last weeks lack of photos so here is two weeks of Year 5 loving life in forest school!



This week, we have been learning…

  • Maths- We been smashing short division with 3 digit x 1 digit numbers and have also been looking at how we can multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.



  • Science- We have finished Newton’s 3 laws of motion with us diving into his third and final law of action/reaction and looking at how this applies to real life examples.



  • History- We have begun our new topic of Crime and Punishment this week as we look back through a 800 year journey into how both crime and punishment has changed throughout history.


  • PE- We have been applying our teamwork skills and knowledge of counter balances to perform these using apparatus.


Conversation starters

  • RE- We have been testing our conscience with some moral dilemmas in class. Do your parents know any good moral dilemmas that they can put you to the test with?



  • English- We have began our discussions text topic and have been creating points of view for our school themed questions.

    Should mobile phones be banned in schools?

    Should school uniform be compulsory?

    discuss these with your parents and see what they think.






Notices

  • Homework- Please check the homework blog to keep on track of your child’s SPAG, multiplication and division practice and also their reading.





  • Forest School- This will take place every Friday for this half term. You will be sent a text the previous night to make aware who is doing this on which day as the class are split into groups. The children will just need to bring in a change spare of clothes- ones suitable for outdoor activities and working within a forest environment. Long clothing will be needed (no shorts).

    The groups are;

    Group 1- Daisy, Grace, Isioma, Jacob, Lilly, Logan, Matilda, Seth, Teddy, Toby

    Group 2- Amelia, Beth, Finley, Hudson, Hugo, John-Paul, Joseph, Poppy, Sean

    Each group will have four sessions of forest school spread out across the rest of the year.





  • Extra Curricular Activities- Please check the sports blog for new and existing sports clubs taking place this half term, including game and tournament dates.





  • Swimming Gala Trails- If you’re interested in taking part in the swimming gala, please complete the form on the sports page of the school website. The trails will take place on Friday 16th with the Gala being on Friday 23rd. You will need to bring your swimming costume, a towel and goggles to the trail session.

  • Year 5 Krispy Kreme Donut Day- For our class fundraiser, we are hosting a donut sale for the rest of the school. Children can bring £1 in to buy a donut. A box of 12 can be pre-ordered from the office.





Year 6 Weekly Blog 9.5.25 ' We are disciples of Christ, Christ goes before us, and the world needs His light' Pope Leo XIV

What a momumental week we have had in school. This week all our thoughts and liturgies have been centred around celebrating VE day and the 80 year anniversary, as well as the appointing of the new pope! This week we have remembered the soldiers and people during World War times who helped to bring peace and thanking them for bringing us this peace and freedom, whilst appreicating how we can all live in peace now beacuse of them. We celebrated this as a whole school community, in our red, white and blue, with a whole school picnic on the playground, listening to war -time songs!

There was much excitment coming in to school on Friday, discussing the appointment of the new Pope Leo XIV, our first American pope, who will be our spiritual leader, leading the Church in faith, working for peace and justice around the world- how fitting to be appointed on the 80 year anniversary of VE day!

After working with the children this week, we feel nothing but pride. The way the children have come in to school every day and giving their absolute best, no matter how they are feeling on the inside, is truly amazing! Each one of them are overcoming barriers and challenges, no matter how big or how small and this process is making them see, that hard work, over a long period of time, really does pay off. This week we celebrated all the children, not on their marks of their final practice papers, but on the progress they have made and for some, this has been huge! We have worked SUPER hard this week on the areas we needed to, and the children couldn’t do any more, other than remember what we always say in class… YOUR BEST IS ALWAYS GOOD ENOUGH.

Going Forward …

Monday will be the start of the children’s SAT’s journey and they are extremely ready for this! There will, of course, be some nerves and anticipation this weekend on the run up, but the most important thing to do over the next few days is to relax, exercise, have plenty of sleep and eat healthily. We need those brains ready and raring to go! It would be a good idea if the children, did a little revision (small doses) to keep their learning ticking over, we have sent a short reading task to complete over the weekend ready for Monday, a punctuation revision map to prepare them for their grammar on Tuesday, and they could always have a look at IXL or ‘maths is fun’ for their maths. It may just give them a bit of practice and confidence before the week begins. On Friday, the children set up the hall ready for Monday, so they all know exactly what they are walking in to and where to sit - I think there was even some excitement by the time we left the hall!

Onwards and Upwards…

The following Monday, of course, is their forthcoming ‘holiday’ to Winmarleigh. The teachers are all getting ready and looking forward to spending a few days with Year 6, it is the perfect way to end this half term- making memories, with the class and teachers, they have gone through school with, as well as pushing themselves to do things they have never done before. These children are capable of great things and I know we are going to have a great time away with them.

I have listed some essential information below which you will need to think about and know. Again, if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

  • On Monday 19th May, the children need to arrive at school through the normal way (playground) at 8:45am. Please bring all bags and drop them off in the ‘All Stars’ room, next door to Year 6. Parents on this day are able to bring the children in to school via the playground with their bags where they can then say their goodbyes. There will be members of staff there to help and direct you. The children will need one case/bag with their main clothes in and a back pack for the coach with any smaller items in.

  • All children must bring a packed lunch with them for the first day. Please make sure there is plenty of water and no fizzy drinks please. The packed lunch box they will use on this day, will then be re-used to put their sandwiches in on Thursday. So please make sure you pack a proper Tupperware.

  • If your child needs any medication for the week, this needs to be in a separate bag - clearly labelled - and given to the member of staff who will be at the medicine table in the ‘All Stars’ room. The form below needs to be completed which will indicate the medication, when it needs administering and how much needs to be administered. Please bring this with you on the day with the medicine (not before).

  • Bedding- Children are required to bring their own duvet/ sleep bag and pillow. The bed sheet will be provided for. Please make sure you wrap the duvet and pillow up in a bin liner to protect it but it needs to have a BIG, CLEAR label on to show who’s is who, as you can imagine the chaos once we get there, when everyone needs to get their bags etc off the coach! Children should be familiar with their own bedding etc to ensure they recongise their own once they are there, in case labels disappear- so don’t pack for them.

  • Talent Show - Next week, I will be asking the children what their talent show act is and if they have any music etc. Please can you ensure that the act your child is doing is totally appropriate. I will be checking this next week. Anything that the children need for the talent show needs to be brought in on the morning of departure. If it fits in your child’s case - brilliant! Please ensure that they have any music that they need too.

  • Final balance - please ensure that the final balance has been paid please- any difficulties please speak to Mrs Nel.

On the Wednesday, our coach will be picking us up from Borwick Hall at 2pm, so we aim to arrive back approximately 3:30pm at the latest. However, this is traffic dependent, so therefore, we will be in contact with school to give a more accurate time and then you will receive a text message, so you know when to come and collect them.

I know you have a kit list list which I am sure you have all studied, but just a couple of reminders of the vital items:

  • no valuable or electrical items please (apart from a hairdryer if necessary)

  • make sure all clothing items are labelled with names

  • does your child suffer from travel sickness, if so they are able to take travel sickness tablets to avoid illness but please make sure it is added to the medical form.

  • packed lunch box and refillable bottle

  • indoor and outdoor shoes

  • sun cream and sun hat!

  • a book or a notebook to write in for quiet time.

  • talent show- if music is required, then please send the song either as a mp3 file, USB stick or a CD as their is not a great Wi-Fi connection at all.

  • bags will be carried by the children and have to be lifted up stairs by themselves up to their rooms, so please make sure you pack lightly.

The Year 6 team

This week....

A week of remembrance and celebrations. We have been preparing for our VE Day picnic by putting up the bunting, making union flags to wave and celebratory VE day crowns!! Luckily the sun was out to make the day FANTASTIC. it was so lovely to be out on the field with the whole school. Siblings and friends across the classes were able to eat and play together.

We started the week by watching the video that we looked at for Remembrance Day. The children were able to describe what was happening and how war made them feel and that we had all made a remembering poppy. Click here to watch again at home. We then discussed that when the fighting had finished there was peace in our country and we learnt the sign for ‘peace’. and made a ‘peace wreath’.

Forest school

Last Friday it was our turn for forest school. We absolutely love it. We visited our tadpoles in their new home. Listened to environmental sounds and did some forest bathing under the canopy of the trees. It was so tranquil and calming, although it was tricky to get in to the hammock! As a treat we had juice and Jammy Dodgers!

Hello everyone,  

The sunshine is still shining for us all, and the children just love playing and learning in the garden. 

This week, we have been exploring the number 8. The children have been working out how many legs an octopus has (one of our friends brought a cuddly octopus into nursery and was telling their friends about its 8 legs. The children drew their own octopus and counted each leg, making sure they had 8.

As a fine motor activity we made a picture of Rapunzel with her long hair, then clipped and counted 8 pegs on to her long hair! This was tricky but the children ‘had a go’ like Tommy Turtle.

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.

We have had a very busy week of learning. We have worked very hard practising writing numbers 8. If you would like to practice at home, here is the rhyme; ‘s' to start, looking great, loop back up and there’s your 8’. Don't forget to use your duck fingers. We have also been counting out objects to 8. Why not have a go at home. I'm sure you will be amazed at how well your child can count. Don't forget to touch each object as you count it.

Year 3 Weekly Blog 9th May

Luca, Jacob, Jude Cl, Michael and Danny led our worship this week, we listened to Acts 1 ‘Jesus is King’ and heard how Jesus stayed for 40 days with his Disciples teaching and encouraging them. Jesus explained that he would leave them again but the Holy Spirit would help and guide them once he had gone. Jesus would be ruling the world from his new position, seated at the right hand of His Father.
