What a jam-packed first week back it has been- we have certainly getting close to summer as the heat has cranked up this week! Sports days have started taking place, with Year 5 loving the music booming out just outside our classroom. Our sports day is just around the corner with the date and time of this down below in our notices. We have also began our preparations for the end of year play by hosting auditions for some small speaking roles amongst Year 6 and also practicing our songs in the hall with Mrs Harrison. We have also welcome our Year 6 helpers into our classroom on Mondays and Tuesdays with them being put to work straight away, whilst also being a kind and approaching supporters of our Year 5 children.
Learning has taken place straight away with us starting our final units in some of our subjects. Maths has been all things fractions as we have been recapping our knowledge of key words and linking this to our Year 5 curriculum. In English, we have dived into the world of poetry and have been reading the poem ‘The Highwayman’ which has huge links to our history topic of crime and punishment.
We have also been secretly making fathers day cards - so mothers, please keep these hidden until Sunday!
Learner of the Week- This week our award goes to Seth for being an enthusiastic learner. You have really started our last half term with a spring in your step Seth. You have been engaging with lessons so profoundly and your hand has been shooting up ready to share your knowledge. Keep this up!
Virtue Star of the Week- Our virtues for this half term are love and compassion and our winner this week goes to Lilly. The Year 5 staff team have just loved how eloquent, gentle and loving you have been towards our younger children this week (especially with Hugo). You have given up your own break times to make sure our little friends are okay and have gone out of your way to help them.

Well, we certainly have hit the ground running this half term!
The sun shone and everyone had a fabulous time. We have been practising our fundamental movement skills all year in readiness for this moment. I hope you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed taking part.
With regards to our bespoke t-shirts, please remember to press them for three minutes before washing to seal in the colours. Ut would be a shame to lose such wonderful art work.

Hello, and welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful half term. It has been lovely hearing what you have all been up to over the break.
The children have got right back into nursery life.
A big well done for everyone who took part in Sports Day, it was fantastic! You all have worked so hard preparing yourselves, and we were so lucky the sun was out for us.
The children have been playing detectives in the garden, finding lots of different mini beasts. They were looking under lots of different objects in the garden. They found spiders, spider eggs, a slug, and lots more, but we also found a magnificent butterfly that had fluffy legs and body. Take a look at the picture and see if you ca find out what kind of butterfly it is!
We have had some visitors delivered to nursery this week, five baby caterpillars for us to look after! We are all excited for what will happen to them and watch their metamorphosis. It's all very exciting.
Have a wonderful weekend and Fathers Day on Sunday.

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.
I hope you all had a wonderful half-term break and got to spend some time with your friends and family.
This week has been all about Sports day and what a glorious sunny afternoon it was. I am so proud of all the children, they all did brilliantly. Thank you to you all for your support too.
We have been growing our brains this week as we have explored symmetry and patterns. We had a special delivery this week as our caterpillars arrived. We discovered that when they are butterflies they have symmetrical wings, where the pattern is the same on each side. We made our own butterfly and had to make each wing the same.
Why not go on a butterfly hunt this weekend.
Have a lovely weekend
Michelle
Symmetry-Matching
We have been finding our about the life cycle of a butterfly. We noticed that a butterflies wings are the same on each side of its body….they match! Here’s a good game to play at home. Click here.
Have the most wonderful weekend everyone, we will see you on Monday!
Stay safe and God Bless
Barbara
Today, we celebrated mass at St Joseph’s church, together with First Holy Communicants from lots of different local schools. Our theme was the Sacred Heart of Jesus, reminding us Jesus gave His body so we could feel His perfect love. Children joined in with responses, complete with sign language and sang with gusto.
In our Happy mind this week, we talked about what it means to ‘engage’ in learning and how important this is. We had a discussion about being able to give things our total focus and attention and how difficult this can be in the age of screen time.
This week in maths, children have been learning all about symmetry - how many lines of symmetry different shapes have and how we can reflect shapes over a mirror line. We have grown our knowledge of certain quadrilaterals - like kites, trapeziums, parallelograms and rhombuses.
Children enjoyed working in their biscuit teams to make their biscuits with Mrs Mather this week.
This week in our English lessons, we have been focusing on reading questions. We have started our new novel, “Odd and the Frost Giants,’ and made sure we have mastered all year 4 reading skills. We have also been learning all about the Viking cosmos and children have been creating these in groups.
In PE, we have done a lot of running and hurdling this week. Also we have been practising our obstacle race.
Have a look at our beautiful images in the film below from our proud moments at the Grand Theatre in the Tempest - sent by the photographers. What a special event to look back on with fondness forever.

Our learning certificate this week is another double whammy. A Roger Robin/Clara Clownfish goes to Hugo for being a learner with such interest and curiosity in his learning - especially with shape. You have also been there offering your help to me and to others this week - like an angel!
Our virtues for this half term are Compassionate and Loving. The first person who comes to mind in class when I think of these virtues is you Phoebe. You have a real gift from God in spotting the needs of others and then showing your love to them by helping.

Next week we are learning about money. Have a look at some real money at home. What are the values of each coin or note?
Talk about equivalence - For example:
How many 5ps would be equal to 50p?
How many £1 would make £10
How do you write down amounts of money?

Read moreSt Peters school are hosting a charity football match on Friday 27th June in which both ourselves and St Bede’s have been invited to take part in. The match is due to start between 3:45-4:00 and the event will finish around 5:30pm. The event will take place on the field of St Bede’s High School (which is also shared by St Peters)
This is an optional invitation but we would love to bring enough children to take part and help make this a memorable evening. A large full football match will be played with rotating teams throughout the match. This a call out to everyone who is currently in the school football teams this year- Boys A Team, Boys B1 and B2 and Girls team.
If enough people are interested, there is a possibility of there being a parents game as well! (Teachers included).

Please take the time to read about Patrick’s story and complete the form below if you are interested.
‘We are raising money to celebrate and honour the life and legacy of our beloved friend and coworker Patrick McCready.
Whilst working at St. Peter’s as our site supervisor, Patrick undertook the role of Girls Football Coach due to his experience and passion for the sport.
Every week, he would take to the field to coach the girls, and take them to their matches with other local primary schools.
However, his love for the game was not just saved for his beloved U11s team. It was a mainstay of our school. From chanting songs with the children on the playground to talking to pupils about the weekend’s results, Patrick’s love for football was clear and he shared it with all.
As such, in his memory, we will be raising funds for Rosemere Cancer Charity. This will take place through various means but will culminate on the 27th June, when we will be hosting a football match in his name.
This will allow our school community to celebrate his life, his passion and the impact he had on so many of our pupils.
All funds raised will go to Rosemere Cancer Charity, a cause close to Patrick’s family, supporting vital cancer care and services in our local community.
Please donate what you can and help us make a difference in Patrick’s name.’

This half term has flown by with an action- packed term of learning! We have been looking at Mechanisms, in particular, pivots and levers. The children have investigated and explored everyday items that use a mechanism to operate. We have thought about the input and the output of a device and what happens in between! Through exploration, the children used levers and pivots to make linkages. Using this knowledge and through discussion, we came up with a design- criteria to plan and create a moving monster for a Year 1 child. The children were so proud with their end product!
Next half term we are moving on to Food Technology, where they will be looking at nutrition and a healthy balanced diet, focusing on the different food types. They will then go on to use their knowledge, to design and make a healthy wrap. Your class teacher will let you know in advance of any ingredients that you child will need to bring for their session.
Have a wonderful May half term,
God Bless
Mrs Mather
What a final week of Summer 1 it has been! A change of personnel for the first half of the week with the absence of Mr Cornwell. In steps Mrs Woodend. She was blown away with the children’s attitude, behaviour and changes in maturity since she last taught them- an excellent welcoming return. Hard work continued throughout these three days with the children finishing their independent writing about their final discussion text, along with tacking more and more percentages of amounts. We also took another step in our historical timeline of crime and punishment, with us entering the 17th Century- where punishments became bloodier!
To finish our English topic, the class split into two teams and worked together to create arguments for their final debating question, this time in a more formal setting. This question can be found below in conversation starters. We finished off this day with the much anticipated final gymnastics lesson of the year with the class challenging themselves on the big apparatus! We ended our week with the entire class out in the morning either at forest school or out swimming at this years gala at Paletine. The children represented the school so well and helped the school achieve their highest ever finish at the swimming gala.
We wish you all a lovely, relaxing and safe half term- enjoy those two weeks!
One final half term of the school year. Let’s push on and make it the best one yet.
Conversation starters
RE- We have been testing our conscience with some moral dilemmas in class. Do your parents know any good moral dilemmas that they can put you to the test with?
English- We had a go at formal debating to finish our unit off with our most difficult question…
Are girls better than boys or are boys better than girls?
Share with your parents the reasons we came up with for and against.
Learner of the Week- This week our award goes to Louis for being a determined learner. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. This is something that you value when it comes to your learning Louis. Your spelling test scores this year certainly prove this as you are constantly achieving full marks week in week out. This will pay off as you go into your final year of Our Lady’s. Brilliant work!
Virtue Star of the Week- Our virtues for this half term are curious and active and our winner this week goes to Hugo. Staying alert and focused during lessons is such an important factor in learning progression. Us teachers like to test this with lots of cold calling. Whenever I come to you, you are always ready to provide the right answer which always brings a smile to my face. Keep this up!
Homework- Please check the homework blog to keep on track of your child’s SPAG, multiplication and division practice and also their reading.
