Compulsory Homework

Reading

Everyone has been given a reading target to complete over half term (there should be a post it note in their book). Rocket reading targets will reset and be changed over half term so make sure you are ready to quiz when you come back to school!

English

We have today been learning about relative clauses and how these add information to our sentences. They all start with relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which and that). Complete the sheet and highlight the different clauses in the sentences and circle the relative pronoun in each sentence.

Maths

The children have got 2 sheets to complete in their homework books.

  2. Plotting numbers on a coordinate grid

Spellings

We have changed our spelling practice lessons in school to focus more on retrieval spellings- especially our high frequency and common words.

Practice writing these words three times on the line in your BEST handwriting. Make sure to complete lots of mini spelling tests in preparation for our weekly test on Friday.

This week...

Another fabulous week!!

Our learning landscape has been full of challenges:

We have been exploring dinosaurs by sorting them into three categories, herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We decided we liked the carnivores the best especially their sharp teeth.

The children have been measuring ‘dinosaur bones’ and matching them to patterns on a card…mmm very tricky!

We have also been matching dinosaurs to their dino eggs…no problem doing this. We are even remembering our duck finger for writing, great!

On Tuesday we found a huge egg in the garden. We think it is a dinosaur egg! We have made it a cosy nest and are patiently waiting for it to hatch! I wonder which dinosaur it will be, hopefully not a carnivore!

Our number challenges this week have been about number 4. We have been counting (pretend) ice cream into cones and been subitising to 4 by rolling a dice and ordering numbers to 4… I think we mat be ready to move on to number 5!!

In the water play this week we have been fishing for sounds. I must say we are getting good at recognising the sound, saying the sound correctly and also the rhyme that helps us write the letter. Our new sounds are i and o. Have ago writing them at home using your sound mat.

Worship

This week in Worship we have continued our ‘Prophecy and promise’ topic. Our key words were WAITING, CHRISTMAS, JESUS and ADVENT.

We began our first session talking about times we have to wait – for presents, birthdays, for a bus, a new baby. How does it make us feel to wait? Sometimes it can be hard, especially when it is something exciting! We had something wrapped in gold, shiny wrapping paper on our worship table – we are all excited to see what it might be!

We learnt a new word – Advent. Advent is the time when we wait for Jesus to come. We celebrate Jesus being born at Christmas. We had a look at our travelling nativity story and special figures to help us understand the special story of Jesus being born. We can’t wait to see what you all put in the book once the travelling nativity makes it to your house.

We ended with one of our favourite songs ‘This little light of mine’ Click here The shepherds and the wise men followed a great light in the sky to find the new baby Jesus. We love singing this song with our new lightbulb shakers!

On Tuesday we dedicated our worship to Remembrance Day. We made remembering poppies from blocks and play dough. We made two wreaths one for indoors and one for outside the chapel. Mrs Gregan came to join in our prayers and the laying of our wreath at the chapel. When we returned to nursery we decoartated poppy buns…and then ate them!

Forest school

Last Friday was our forest school take over day. We spent a whole morning with Mrs. Tierney in forest school We climbed trees, made key rings, made dens, dug for dinosaurs ran up and down mounds of bark chippings, looked for frogs in the pond, played in the mud kitchen and found lots of hidey holes and secret pathways. IT WAS FANTASTIC! We finished our morning with a story around the fire pit and roasted marshmallows to put inside our chocolate biscuits. yummy!

The zipper club!!

We are encouraging all the the children to join the zipper club and become independent coat fasteners. We already have quite a few members but we would love to have everyone be able to fasten their coats before Christmas.. can you help. Have a practice at home, they are nearly there!

Nursery drop in session

We will be holding our parent drop in session on Thursday 20th November 3.45 pm- 4.45 pm. This is not a formal parents evening but just a chance for a catch up, a look around nursery and to ask any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you.

Christmas Raffle tickets

Our Christmas raffle tickets are being sent home today!!! Please help us by selling as many as you can…then send the money and named stubs back to school. Any unsold tickets must also be returned to school. More information is on the tickets!!!

‘In a town called Bethlehem’

This years Nativity is being held for parents and family on Wednesday 3rd December and Thursday 4th December at 9.30 am. Owing to fire regulation these performances will be ticket only events, with a limit of 4 per family over the two performance . You will have received your ticket order form this week. Please complete and return to school, a.s.a.p.

All the nursery children are invited to take part in the Nativity but if it is not your child’s usual day we kindly ask that you collect them straight after the performance, approximately 10.30 am. All children should be in nursery no later than 9.00am

We have the costumes ready but each child will need a pair of plain white leggings, a plain white t shirt and a strand of silver tinsel.

Tuesday 2nd December will be our dress rehearsal. If possible it would be great if we could have all the children in nursery. This is also the day the Nativity DVD will be filmed.

If your child will not be present for one of the performances can you please let us know.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 14.11.25 - "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies." St Teresa of Calcutta

This week in RE we have been discovering all about the Annunciation, and we have had some really thoughtful discussions about Mary and how brave she is. We know that Mary said “yes” to God and we have been reflecting on how we can say yes to God in our lives.

We were led beautifully in prayer and liturgy by Ralph, Diya and Adele who shared Luke’s Gospel of the Annunciation. We prayed the Hail Mary and said thank you to Mary for always listening to our prayers. We also thought about our mummy’s and how wonderfully they help us too.

On Tuesday at 11:00 everybody in school stopped, and there was silence across the school. Our children were so still and full of prayer, you would have been so very proud with the respect they showed during these 2 minutes of silence, all the children know how important it is to remember all those who have lost their lives to protect others.

Magic moments

This week it has been such a joy to hear the classroom full of joy as we prepare for our Nativity by learning the brilliant songs! The children are singing with such excitement and confidence, they are really going to put on a show for you all I can just tell! My personal favourite is the New King, the children sign this song with such love for baby Jesus - bring your tissues when you come to watch!

Let’s celebrate

A huge well done to Adele who has been a focused Cooper Crab and has been awarded our Learning certificate this week. Adele, in every lesson, every activity you are focused and ready for whatever challenge or task we will be doing. This focus has allowed you to get the most out of every learning opportunity. You have noticed things in more detail and have made connections between our learning and solved problems. Wow, how you have grown your brain already this year! We are very proud of you.

Congratulations to Tommy who has been awarded our Star virtue this week. Tommy you had the most heartwarming reflection on moments that have ‘filled your bucket’ this week. You spoke about kindness that others have shown towards you, how that has made you feel and how you will pass that kindness forward by doing things that fill other peoples buckets. Tommy, it’s such a special thing to have faith in your friends and in others, thank you for reminding us of that!

PJ Day for Brian House - This Monday (17th November) we will be raising money for Brian House. Please come to school with your favourite teddy, wearing your PJs and £1 donation. Remember sensible shoes for outdoor playtimes (we also have outdoor PE on this day).

Own clothes day - Once again we will be creating Christmas hampers / prizes for the school Christmas raffle. On Thursday 27th November we will be having an own clothes day along with chocolate donations.

Year 1 Forest school takeover day - On Friday 28th November we have our takeover day in our forest school. This day is for ALL our year 1 children so please come dressed for a day outside: waterproofs, clothes you don’t mind getting mucky, old trainers and wellies in a bag please.

Nativity: Year 1 and 2s Nativity is on 10th and 11th December. Please don’t forget to order your Nativity tickets. The letters came home last week. If you have any problems let us know!

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'Unfurl the sails, and let God steer us where He will' Saint Bede the Venerable

This week’s liturgy and reflection has been focused around our two virtues ‘Faithfilled and Hopeful’ This half term, we are looking at what it means to be faithfilled and hopeful. Both of these qualities will be really important as we journey towards advent, having faith in oursleves, others and most importantly God. With faith and love, comes hope, hope that we can achieve the things we want to and hope in others. During litrugy we discussed and wrote down all the things we are hopeful for at school, home and around the world.

Of course, earlier this week ‘remembrance day’ was in the forefront of our mind, thinking of all the people who have lost their lives to give us the freedom we have today. On Tuesday, we walked to the cenotaph, where we joined in prayer and reflection with the wider community to remember those who are no longer with us. This was a beautiful way to mark such an important day.

 

This week we have fit so much high quality learning in to our timetable. This is all down to your wonderful children, how hard they are working and how eager they are to deepen their knowledge and learn new skills! This week we have continued with our adjusting method in maths, we have been revisiting our grammar skills suing conjunctions to create compound and complex sentences and we have heard some wonderful presentations from the child on the femail protagonists of the old testament …

My Happy Mind this week’s focus was on Meet your brain! We looked at all the ways that we can keep our brains healthy, by ensuring that our three areas of the brain are working together and keeping our amygdala calm. The children have discussed how going forward their sleep, keeping hydrated and knowing what relaxes them are reallyu important - ensuring that we keep away from screens at least one hour before we go to bed!

Tudor Enrichment

On Tuesday 16th December we have booked for Heritage Learning Lancashire to come in to school and deliver some enrichment activities for Year 6 in the school hall, which will help to enhance and complete our Tudor learning perfectly. During this day we will revist the war of the Roses, the Spanish Armada, object handling and even Tudor dance! Please can we come to school this day in Tudor costumes! Payment for this morning of fun and learning is now on ParentPay, with a small charge of £5- thank you.

Leading Learners

Well done to Louis this week.

Louis- Focused Cooper Crab- Wow Louis, you are impressing us so much with your focus, eagerness, enthusiasm and determination. You are  so engaged during lessons, managing your distractions, participating fully and getting lost in each task. We love seeing how resilient you are when work is challenging and how you always ask for help if you need it- your openness makes you a delight to teach!

Faithfilled and Hopeful butterflies

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are intention in their actions. Children who show great faith in themselves, others and God. We will also be spotting children who are hopeful, who show hope for the future, enabling us to trust ourselves and those around us with the decisions that will shape our future. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Rose for always being faithfilled and hopeful.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 07.11.25- 'They believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken' John 2:16-22

What a lovely start to the new half term it has been! This week in worship, we have focused on the word ‘temple’ and the children showed such good understanding of what this word means and how important it is to us as faithful learners. In RE, we have been looking into the life of David and how is qualities made him so inspirational within the Bible, particularly in the battle of ‘David vs Goliath’.

It has been an exciting start to our learning as well as Year 5 and 6 came together to share some of their writing as we moderated our work so we understand what is expected come the end of key stage two. The children loved running away with their imagination by writing about a visual stimulus and also reading stories from children in Year 6. We have also started our new English topic of non-fiction texts and we discussed some real life examples of texts that we have both read and written in our lives before. Can you remember the six types of non-fiction texts?

Conversation Starters

On Monday, we began our My Happy Mind lessons in which we recapped about the different parts of our brain (can you remember what Team HAP stands for?). We discussed how our hippocampus where all of our memories are stored. We had a lovely chat and shared some weird and wonderful memories that will always stay in our minds. Share your memory with your parents and see if they remember this. Do they have any memories like this of their own?

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are faith-filled and hopeful. Our winner this week goes to Albert. You have come back after half term and have been so focused and determined Albert. I am really hopeful for the progress you are going to make this year as you have reflected so well on guidance given by your teachers.

Learning Certificate Winner of the Week: Our winner this week goes to Anna for being an focused and cooperative learner. You have been such a role model of how to engage fully in your lessons Anna and this has really shown in your quality of work. You have been so helpful and loving towards your new learning partner at the start of this half term. Long may it continue.

And so we begin a new half term together and this one is up there with my favourites, as we get ourselves ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus and all of the wonderful celebrations and traditions along the way! Our prayer and liturgies as always have been such special moments of the week. Our child led was focused on Remembrance the children passed round poppies and drew someone special they wanted to think about and pray for, all the children thought so carefully about how they wanted to pray for, it was really touching.

In RE we have looked closely at the Bible. The children have learnt that the bible has two parts and that we can find the Gospels at the start of the New Testament. We played a game of four corners, helping us to remember the names of the four Saints: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Magic moments

There have been so many moments this week. Let’s start with the children’s excitement to return to school and to see their friends on Monday! Their sheer happiness to organise new classroom jobs to look after ourselves and our school. To the enthusiasm to really challenge themselves during this weeks writing. We have begun our new story book and during our first English lesson back, we went on a nature walk. When we returned to the classroom we gathered our vocabulary and wrote describing sentences using ‘and’. The children set to work and once completed Noah asked if he could do more.. this rippled around the room and all of the children successfully wrote multiple sentences with all of the sentence structure we are currently focusing on: letter formation, capital letter, a full stop and finally including the word ‘and’. Seeing their pride once they had completed their writing was one of my biggest joys this week.

Maths workshop: A huge thank you for the so very many of you who were able to attend on Wednesday morning. It really was such a magic part of the week and one which the children adored! To those of you who couldn’t make it please do not worry, you will have received all of the materials that we used during the workshop and will be needed to complete this weeks homework. Should any pieces get lost, I have attached all of the resources on our HOMEWORK page.

Let’s celebrate

A huge well done to Isabella who had been a determined Sadie Spider this week. Isabella, your determination during our English lessons has made us so proud. You have started every piece of writing with such a positive attitude and you have produced some brilliant pieces of work. You have shown yourself just how much you are capable of and we have enjoyed seeing you beam with pride and confidence! Keep it up Isabella, we are so proud of you!

Another huge well done to Arla who has been awarded our star virtue this week for being Faithfiled and Hopeful. Arla we could see how much you enjoyed leading one of our prayer and liturgies in class this week and you did so with so much respect and a calm faithfiled manner. Thank you for helping to lead us in our reflection.

Year 6 Weekly Blog: “Lest We Forget"

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them… this week is always a poignant week as we stop and remember all of those fallen victims of war and conflict. Our focus of the week has been on the word ‘Remembrance’ and joined together in prayer in a beautiful litrugy that helped us remember all the people who have died in God’s friendship are like these sparks. They are free and completely alive with God– living in eternity. We have wrote the names of those who we will remember on wooden crosses which we will lay at the cenotaph next week at the Remembrance service.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

This half term, we are looking at what it means to be faithfilled and hopeful. Both of these qualities will be really important as we journey towards half term, having faith in oursleves, others and most importantly God. With faith and love, comes hope, hope that we can achieve the things we want to and hope in others.

We have read more of our class novel this week, looked at the reign of Queen Elizabeth, the defeat of the Spanish Armada and looked closely at singificant women found in the old testament. This week we met with Year 5, to moderate and peer mark our writing, which the children found very interesting and helped them to see what they need to work on next …
