This week...

Sports Day

A week full of sport! We are so proud of the children for joining in all of the games and races. They have certainly grown in resilience on confidence…just the skills they need to progress through school and have fun! Take a look at the photos!

Learning Landscape

Even though we are nearing the end of the school year we have not let our learning slip! We have:

  • completed puzzles. We are getting good and are trying even more tricker jigsaws.

  • practiced our writing…look how good we are getting.

  • made super hero masks for our party celebration.

  • made animals and figures using the Popoids…we really enjoyed these.

…and on Wednesday we had to solve a huge problem which had occurred in nursery over night! Someone had mad a mess in nursery. Time to phone Super Croccy, we needed his help.

We found broken biscuits on the floor, play food on the floor AND upturned chairs. We found baby bear upset, mummy bear not happy and daddy bear was FURIOUS! Who could have done this….mmmm? The children worked out it must have been Goldilocks, but where was she? We searched everywhere and eventually found her hiding in the roof space. We managed to spot some of her golden hair dangling from the ceiling tile. Mrs. Gregan was very disappointed.

End of year celebration party

Don’t forget the end of year celebration party is on Wednesday 15th July 9.30 am -11.00 am. Everyone is welcome to come and join the fun, dressed as a super hero (please bear in mind the weather, if it’s hot just a cloak will be fine). There is no need to bring any food, we plan to make popcorn and eat ice lollies!!!!!

Lastly, the weather is going to be great this weekend so fire up the BBQ and get ready for England to win against Norway on Saturday…come on England!!

Year 6 Play information

Dear Year 6 Parents,

We are delighted to remind you that our Year 6 production of Robin Hood will be taking place on:

  • Monday 13th July at 6:00pm

  • Tuesday 14th July at 6:00pm

For both evening performances, all children must arrive at school by 5:40pm to allow sufficient time for costumes, final preparations and getting into character before the audience arrives.

As we enter the final stages of rehearsals, this is a crucial period in the lead-up to the performances. We kindly ask for your support in ensuring full attendance wherever possible. Regular attendance at rehearsals is essential for helping the children build confidence in their roles, perfect their performances and work effectively as part of the cast. It also greatly supports our planning and preparation as we bring the production together.

As part of our commitment to working towards our STAR Charter and making a positive contribution to our wider community, Year 6 will also be raising money for charity through the production. The children have decided to organise a raffle at both evening performances, alongside the sale of play programmes, which they are currently helping to create. We would be extremely grateful if each Year 6 child could donate a raffle prize. This could be a small gift, toy, book, game, chocolate hamper item or other suitable prize. If donations could be brought into school at any point during this week, it would greatly assist us with organising the raffle and ensuring its success.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication the children have shown so far, and we are looking forward to sharing their talents with you in what promises to be two fantastic evenings of entertainment.

Year 6 Weekly Blog ‘If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change’.

“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Jesus tells us, “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” In this week’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that we do not have to carry our worries, fears, or problems alone. When life feels difficult, we can turn to Him in prayer and trust that He will help us. This message teaches us that God's love brings peace, comfort, and strength, helping us to care for others with kindness and compassion too. This lead on beautifully around the children’s feelings towards transtion and the discussion point: what are some worries or challenges that we can bring to Jesus and ask Him to help us with?

What a busy week we have had in Year 6. We’ve managed to keep all of our learning going whilst finally nearly finishing our play! Next week we will be running all the way through, making small changes and improving what we have done- maybe even adding a dance in! There are still some children not fully familiar with their lines, please spend time this weekend going over their parts, making sure they know all their lines off by heart with the right expression. They have had their scripts for 6 weeks now and there is only one week to go! Don’t forget tickets are on sale, so please make sure you purchase to avoid disappointment.

This week we have continued our World Cup project work booking holidays to our destinations, researching the football players and learning about their culture and tradtions in more detail! Our transition learning continues and on top of this transition preparation, all children have now been for a visit to their new high school and all have come back positive, looking forward to their new chapter, with of course some nerves. We have spoken in class about these feelings and how we need to share them with the people around us. We will of course, be discussing this in more detail over the next two weeks…

SAT’s Results …

We would like to inform you that Year 6 reports will be sent home on Monday 13th July. These reports celebrate each child’s achievements, progress, and contribution to school life throughout the year.

Unfortunately, the organisation responsible for administering and processing the Key Stage 2 SATs has experienced a technical issue, resulting in a delay to the release of results. As a result, Year 6 SATs results will not be available until Thursday 16th July and will therefore be issued separately from the annual reports, unlike previous years. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Leavers Day

As we approach the final two weeks of the school year, the celebration of our Year 6 children is at the forefront of our minds. Over the past 7 years, the children have grown into young people who are ready to fly. Young people who know how to be the change that they want to see in the world. They could not have achieved this without the love and support that they received from their school community, and more importantly, their family. For this we thank you.

On Wednesday 15th July, the whole school community will come together at the Leavers Mass to celebrate the class and their journey through primary school. This will take place at 9.30am in church.

The following day, we will be going out for the day for part two of the celebrations! They will be walking down, along the beach, to Fairhaven Adventure Golf and Adventure Playground, where we will stay and have lunch and games for the afternoon. We will then head back to school for the end of the day.

Details and payments for this day out will be given out to you next week and we will finalise arrangements-what your children needs to wear and bring with them on the day.

Isioma has faced challenges with such grace and strength, showing excellent character and serving as a positive role model for others. Her determination and perseverance in her learning are equally impressive, as she consistently approaches her work with a positive attitude and a commitment to doing her very best. We are incredibly proud of her strength, resilience, and outstanding example to our school community.


Curious and Active Stars

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children who are active by taking part wholeheartedly, helping others, and using their talents to make a positive difference, just as Jesus showed love through his actions. We will also be looking for the children who are curious by asking questions, exploring new ideas, and seeking to understand the world around them, following Jesus who taught through wonder, stories, and discovery. These children live out these virtues with Jesus at the centre, letting his example inspire both their curiosity and their actions each day. This week we thank Louis for always being active and curious.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 03.07.26-’ The best way to deal with change is to plunge into it, move with it and join in the dance’

This week has certainly been a week of looking into the future and preparing for the next two stages of the children’s lives in school. On Wednesday, we took a trip to St Bedes for our high school transition day. The theme was Science and Technology, with the children being split into different groups with children from different schools. They got struck straight into the labs and dived into some high school investigating and making activities. The following day. the children spent the morning up in Year 6 for their Our Lady’s transition day. Classmates and teachers were familiar to the children but they loved spending time in their new classroom, ready for September. Rehearsals for the end of year play continue to ramp up with us now being off script for our songs and speaking lines (keep practicing these at home).

Our week was started off in celebration as our girls cricket team took the field and participated in the Fylde and Wyre County trials. The girls played so well and with so much spirit. They came out as the best performing school in the fylde district and have been rewarded with a full day out of school next week, to compete in the Lancashire finals- where we will represent Fylde.

Conversation starters

Maths- We have been using the hours on a clock to help identify different types of angles. We have now been telling the time in angles and not using the actual time language itself. Teach your parents about our new way to tell the time.

Let’s Celebrate

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are curious and active. The star this week goes to Ava. High school transitions are a big thing because it is about making a good first impression in your future setting. You did an excellent job with this and you were a real ambassador for our school. You were so active in all of your science and tech activities which showed a brilliant attitude to your future learning.

Learner of the Week: Our certificate winner this week goes to Rosa for being a resilient and determined learner. We may be coming towards to end of our school year but your focus has remained sky high these past few weeks Rosa. Your determination during our independent tasks is amazing and you manage your distractions so well.


Notices

  • Homework- Please check the homework blog for your child’ s weekly homework, including the deadline date.

  • Year 6 Residential- Children have gone home with letters regarding next years school residential trips, including deadlines for costs to be submitted. If your child has lost their letter, please ask the office for a copy. The payments are live on parent pay.

  • Year 5 Sports Festival Wednesday 8th July - A group of 10 children have been selected to take part in a sports festival. Details are on the sports blog.

  • Girls Cricket County Finals Thursday 9th July- For those girls who took part in last weeks cricket competition, details are available on the sports blog for our county finals.

  • End of Year Play Dress Rehearsal Friday 10th July- Children will have to bring in a pair of black leggings/shorts along with a plane brown/green t-shirt to ressemble a 12th Century poor street urchin for the Robin Hood play. These need to be brought in ASAP in order for us to try these on and work out what else we need to alter with our costumes. Bring your clothes in a spare bag with your name labelled or written on the bag.

  • End of Year Play- There will be three performances for parents and family to come and see. Monday 13th July at 6pm, Tuesday 14th July at 9:15am and Tuesday 14th July at 6pm. Please purchase your tickets from Mrs Nel at the front office and for any further enquiries in regards to tickets. Children will need to be back at school for no later than 5:40pm on the 6pm performances.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 3.7.26 - "The Lord is my companion, there is no need that He cannot fulfil"

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus encourages us to take time to rest, something which is sometimes easier than said. Jesus tells us this because he is our companion, he cares for us all and wants us to be able to really be true followers of him. During RE we have been thinking about our parish and how we can be helpers. The children thought of so many wonderfully kind and helpful acts that we can all do every day! Our Catholic social teaching this year has been ‘Putting people most in need first’. The children have really taken to that and lots of our discussion was about how we can help the people in our community and the wider world.

Going deeper in conversation

Who is your companion and why? What do they do that makes them a good companion. Can you think of some ways that you are going to help them to feel your appreciation for how they help and care for you.

Magic moments

This week we had our transition day and all of our Year 1 children went to spend Thursday morning with Mrs Hotchkiss and Miss Forster in Year 2. The children blew both teachers away and I know that Year 1 are going to have such a wonderful year in Year 2. They have worked so hard this year and each and every child has grown in so many ways. It has truly been a gift to teach them all this year and I know their wings are ready to take off and fly in Year 2!

We have kept busy in class and were shocked when we found a letter written from Lorraine our train! Lorraine was feeling a little lonely so the children used their expert knowledge of trains to design new friends for her… she has been feeling much happier ever since! We have also really enjoyed exploring money, sorting coins and discovering what they look like!

Certificates

A huge well done to Adele who has been awarded our Star award this week. Adele is always trying her absolute most and her behaviour actively helps our classroom to be calm!

Our learning certificate this week goes to Ralph for always being so full of creative ideas! Ralph you have such a creative mind and I have loved seeing this blossom! You are so happy and confident to share new ideas and I love how you incorporate these into your learning.

Sports day: Our Sports day is on Monday 6th July at 1:15pm, we would love it if you could cheer us on!

Sponsored Fancy dress walk! In Year 1 we have decided to raise money for CAFOD by taking part in a fancy dress sponsored walk! This will be on Tuesday 14th July. Please make sure your Year 1 child comes into school in fancy dress with sensible shoes, any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Year 5 Homework- Due Thursday 9th July

Reading

New reading targets have been reset so lets get reading to beat those this half term! Remember, we are also trying to beat our 15 million word target for the whole year- we can do it! Minimum of 20 minutes per day is vital in our reading and writing progression.

Grammar

To children have been given the next sheet of our grammar practice that we have been doing in class. These are to be peer marked on every Friday so it is vital that every child attempts this and remembers to bring it back into school.

Maths

With us coming to the end of our curriculum, retrival topics will be sent out each week for homework from some of our bigger units this year such as multiplication, division, fractions and decimals.

This week...

Worship

This week we watched a video all about how God loves us. Click here to watch.We spoke about all the things that God loves and how we love those around us.

This led us into a discussion about love and other feelings. With our transition to Reception coming up and our transition morning on Thursday, we had lots of different feelings. Some of us are excited and some of us are feeling a bit apprehensive – and that’s normal! We spoke about family and how we will still be part of the Our Lady family, just in a different class.

Our Thursday worship focused on John the Baptist. John the Baptist had fun and memorable traits: his unusual clothes made of camel hair, his wild diet of honey and bugs, and his special job of telling everyone that Jesus was coming! We watched this video Some of us remembered our own baptism!

We finished with this hymn.

 Learning Landscape

A wonderful week full of Superhero fun! We phoned Super Croccy to ask if there was a mission her needed help with and on Wednesday he arrived at the nursery door! A robber wearing a red mask and blue cape had taken some pirate treasure and golden coins…quick as a flash we donned our capes, masks and x-ray vision glasses to solve the crime. Super heroes to the rescue! We searched the whole school and found the mask and cape in Mrs. Gregan’s office, a bag of gold coins in the All Stars classroom and the treasure and more coins hidden in Forest School. Mission accomplished!

We have also have:

  • released our butterflies into the nursery garden

  • matched Babushka dolls to Numicon patterns to 10

  • practiced naming and writing sounds

  • had an ice cream from the ice cream van! Thank you Mrs. Gregan!

  • practiced for Sports Day

  • explored using number lines to solve mathematical problems

  • made wonderful structures using Stickle Bricks

  • and had just a jolly good time!!

Sports Day

All being well Sports day will be on Monday 9.15 am, fingers crossed! Please ensure your child is in nursery no later than 9.00 am wearing trainers, shorts and t-shirt. Could you also please make sure that they have sun cream on, a filled water bottle and hat. If it is not your child’s usual session they must be collected at the nursery entrance immediately after Sports Day finishes. Keep a lookout for any messages from Mrs. Gregan.

Homework books will be brought home on Thursday. This will be our final week of homework. Next week I will send homework books home with a list of ideas of ways you can keep getting ready for Year 2 during the summer holidays.

Year 5 BEBCMAT Sports Festival- Wednesday 8th July

Due to recently joining the Catholic Academic Trust, we have been invited to take part in an inclusive sports festival, taking place at Blackpool Stanley Park, FY3 9HU on Wednesday 8th July.

The event will be 12:30pm-3:00pm. We are currently organising transport to the event, due to multiple schools in our area taking part. Therefore, we will take the children to the event.

Parents are welcome to come down and support the children. Children will need to be picked up from the event at 3pm by yourself or a nominated adult. Please communicate that to Mr Cornwell who will be accompanying your children. If you have any issues, please do speak with us.

The children taking part are;

Martha, Ava, Bea, Anna, Lucia, Heath, Nathan, Rodnie, Albert, Isaac

Children will need to come to school in their PE kits and make sure to bring plenty of water, suncream and also a sunhat.
