MATHS

We’ve been adding two digit numbers. We’ve discovered that we have to look very carefully at the numbers and decide if they need bridging or not. I ask the question “what do you notice?” in maths more than I ever ask for the answer. When we notice - we can make decisions about how to solve in efficient ways. Please watch the video!

Girls Football Team Coastal School Games- Thursday 10th July

Due to winning the latest Lytham and St Annes district tournament, our girls football team have been invited to take part in the Spar Coastal Games at Blackpool Sports Centre, FY3 9HQ 10:00am-2:00pm

The children DO NOT need to come to school in the morning. Go straight to the sports centre and meet around 9:45am. The games will take place on 4G astroturf so astro trainers or molded boots are acceptable to wear.

Parents are free to stay and watch if available. When the tournament has finished, children are to be collected and they can go home- they do not need to come back to school.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 20.06.25- ‘Pain is temporary but being a champion is for a lifetime’- Usain Bolt

What a week it has been! I think we can agree that it has surely been the hottest week of the school year. What better activity to do in the blistering heat? Make the children do lots and lots of running! Luckily, our sports day this year fell on a glorious sunny day. The children absolutely ran their socks off and showed such a healthy competitive spirit. It was Harcourt who dominated the Year 5/6 sports day and it was these points which led them to becoming overall Our Lady’s Sports Day Champions!

If that wasn’t enough, the following morning saw us carry out some more running but in a slightly different environment. Pajamas, teddies and parents were all present for our annual Gym Jam Jog festival. The overall funds raised is available on Mrs Gregan’s blog and it is an amazing amount.

Let’s Celebrate

  • Learner of the Week- This week our award goes to Hudson for being an enthusiastic and cooperative learner. You really stood out to me during our sports day this week. You were so enthusiastic about the whole afternoon and carried such a positive energy into every task, which really rubbed off on your team. Your teamwork skills were really on show too! Always cheering on your fellow teammates and you did not let your head drop when results didn’t go your way.

  • Virtue Star of the Week- Our virtues for this half term are love and compassion and our winner this week goes to Amelia. Outside play is always a delight but especially when we have weather like this. I love the way you play with your friends and the creative nature of your games. This kindness and duty to look after others is why you are such a valued member of our mini vinnies.

  • St Bedes Science and Technology Day Wednesday 2nd July- We will be having our annual taster day at St Bedes. School pick up times at Our Lady’s will be as normal. Children will need to be in their full school uniform (school jumper and not a PE hoody). You may bring a pack lunch with you or you can choose to have a school pack lunch. This week...

Another busy week at school! As soon as the children arrived on Monday they noticed how big our caterpillars had grown! They look like they will be super pupa’s before long! Click here to find our more about the life cycle of a butterfly.

The weather has meant we have been able to be outside lots! The children love to learn in the natural environment. Our flowers are blooming, we have strawberries, blackberries, beans and peas. The pumpkins and squash and corn are also looking promising!

Worship

This week we read the Gospel which focused on Jesus’ gift of bread and fishes and how he fed the 5000. We discussed the word ‘nourish’ and how we eat healthy foods to nourish our bodies but also how else we could be nourished, perhaps a special friendship, being praised praying and by opening our hearts to Jesus. With Jesus’ love we will always be nourished.

Jubilee Year of Hope Pledge

The Jubilee Year of Hope, designated for 2025 by Pope Francis, is a special year of pilgrimage and reconciliation within the Catholic Church, emphasizing themes of hope, solidarity, and renewal. A key aspect of this year is the "Jubilee Pledge," where individuals and communities commit to actions that promote justice, love, and peace, both locally and globally. 

The Jubilee Pledge is a personal and communal commitment to living out the values of the Jubilee Year, especially by promoting Catholic Social Teaching. It involves promises to act with justice, love, and peace in everyday life, recognising the dignity of every person and the interconnectedness of the global community. 

This week we visited the worship area in school to think about issues like poverty, injustice, and the impacts of conflict and climate change. Next week we will be writing our collective promises. Examples include caring for creation, working for justice, and promoting forgiveness and reconciliation.

Meet number 10

We have started to investigate the number 10: we found out: Ten is both ten ones and also one ten. This incorporates the concept of unitising. young children needs lots of experience of exchanging ten ones for one ten and recognising their equivalence ( they have the same value). Ten plays a special role in other numbers that follow, e.g. 11 is one ten and one more!

This week we have been finding out what creatures live under the see. We have already found out lots of fun facts about whales and sharks! The children are in the process of creating and underwater display!

Emma’s Blog

Hello everyone, 

We have been having lots of fun and learning in the sun in nursery this week.

We have some great news, as our caterpillars have been growing this week (there are really big!). The children have loved coming in each day, checking on how they are doing, and watching them change each day. We can't wait to see what happens to them next week.

We have met the number 10 this week which the children have been exited about. They have all been working their brains by putting numbers in order 1 to 10, and working out number puzzles. We love numbers in nursery.

We have started a new topic all about 'under the sea'. We have been looking at different types of marine life, considering what they look like, the sounds they make, and what we think they eat. The children have been creating some wonderful paintings of different marine life to go on the wall. They look so marvellous. Well done children.

Hello everyone and welcome to this weeks blog

This week we have met number 10 and have practiced counting to 10 at every opportunity. Our favourite was counting 10 jumps. Why not see if your child can do this for you?

We have also grown our brains as we discover creatures that live under the sea, including the 50 toothed shark. We drew our own underwater world in chalk in the garden.

We were excited to find out our strawberries were ready to eat. So we washed them and ate them in the garden. They were delicious!

Work out Wednesday was so much fun, as we got to explore Reception and play with our Reception friends. It's not long now till our oldest children will be in Reception. Check here for some advice on school readiness. Click here.

Year 3 Weekly Blog 20th June

What an amazing week, filled with sunshine and fun!

Worship Our class worship was led this week by Blythe, Logan, Bella, Elsie and  Dexter. We listen to the story of Philip and how spread the word of God. As a class we thought about how we spreads God’s work, we decided that it was not just through speech but in acts of kindness, care and love. We though about times we had show care and compassion and times others had shown us care. Thank you for leading our liturgy Blythe, Logan, Bella, Elsie and  Dexter, you will be our prayer leaders this week. 

On Thursday we watched the Mark 10 Little Liturgy. We meet Jesus as he spoke in front of a great crowd but there was a problem, they needed something to eat. His disciples brought him five loaves and two fish and Jesus worked a wonderful miracle. Greg helped us reflect upon the Gospel for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We then gathered with Jesus to pray, we thought about those who are not as lucky as us and may be hungry.

Sports Day and Gym Jam Jog

I’m sure you will agree we had a fantastic sports afternoon, the sun was shining and the children were superstars. Thank you so much to the parents and friend who came and supported the children and cheered them on.
It was lovely to see so many families jogging together on Thursday morning for our annual Jim Jam Jog. Check out the picture on Mrs Gregan’s blog.

Our learning this week…

English We have started reading the classical poem ‘The Spider and the Fly’, the children have written statements and questions around illustartations form the text and started to make prediction about what they will think will happen.

Maths - We are column addition and subtraction experts - the children have smashed these units and I am so proud of them. We have started looking at fractions - recognising the whole and parts of everyday objects. For example, the cake is the whole, the parts are the icing, the sponge, the chocolate chips and the cake case. Can your child recognise the parts and wholes of items out and about this weekend?

Spelling - this weeks spelling are more homophones: weather, whether, heel, heal, he’ll, accept, except, affect and effect. Spelling quiz will be 30th June.

Science - We have continued looking at magnetism and non contact forces. We experimented with magnets and wrote statements about what happened when like poles were put together eg north to north and opposite poles were put together eg south to north. We added attract and repel to our scientific vocabulary and used these in our statements.

How did you feel after you had done it?

As we come closer to the end of the school year, children might be starting to feel nervous about moving classes and meeting new teachers. It would be a good time to remind them of how they felt at the beginning of year 3 and how far they have come.

  • Sponsored swim money - to be in by Friday 20th June

  • Glazey Days class trip - we will be visiting Glazey Days in Fleetwood on Wednesday 9th July. We will be travelling by bus and coach (keeping the cost down), then speding some creative time in their studio to paint pottery. The cost of the cost of the trip is £20 and can be paid on parentpay. More info to follow next week.
