Learner of the Week- This week our award goes to Matilda for being a focused and cooperative learner. Even with our learning being disrupted with play practice and trying to work in intense heat in our classroom, your commitment, enthusiasm and kindness never drops below your incredible standards. This just shows that you are ready to lead our school as a role model and the responsibilities of a Year 6 pupil.
Virtue Star of the Week- Our virtues for this half term are love and compassion and our winner this week goes to John-Paul. Transition week is always a fun and exciting week with lots of new opportunities but it is also important in making good impressions. You do this every single day Johnny so I had absolutely no worries about you in your transition days this week- an excellent role model.

Year 4 Weekly blog Friday 27th June “History is the discovering of the principles of human nature.”
Another enjoyable week in Year 4! We have learned more about how to relate to others in our Happy Mind lesson this week. We focused on the ‘Stop, understand and Consider’ strategy to help us see things from others’ perspectives.
The highlight of our week was definitely Viking day! Thank you so much for preparing the children so well - they looked amazing! We started the day by recalling our Viking dance and performing it - see video below. Then the children made movies in groups, explaining everything they have learned about Vikings and giving a more balanced view than the stereotypical one in most History books.
We then split in half and some children went to forest school to learn about Vikings through nature! They made natural jewelry, played Viking games, had Viking stories and Miss Lavelle helped them make porridge with foraged cherries from our tree. Thanks to Miss Lavelle, Mrs Tierney and Mrs Molloy for this!
In class, children invented their own character from the Viking cosmos and thought of a magical object that they might own, lose or steal. This will help them with their upcoming Viking myth stories.
In maths, we have continued our money unit - learning about the most effective ways to calculate and find change. Look out for some homework this week on this.
Also this week, the children below took part in a tennis competition. We had great fun and the children played so well. Thanks to all parents that came to support too!

Our learning certificate this week is another double whammy. A Sadie Spider/Kiki Chameleon certificate goes to Anna for trying so hard in all you do. You allow your creative mind to thrive! You are always so polite and considerate too.
Our virtues for this half term are Compassionate and Loving. This week we have noticed Alana. You are such a lovely friend to others. You always show compassion for others’ needs.

This week...
The weather hasn’t been as kind to us this week but we have not been deterred. In between down pours we have been out and about exploring and investigating the whole school environment. Our learning never stops!!
Worship
This week we have been discussing the word ‘church’ and what is means to us as a Catholic community. We talked about the Church being not just a building, but the living Body of Christ, a community of believers united by faith and sacraments, with our Pope as its visible head. It is seen as the means of salvation, a universal community with a divine mission to spread the Gospel. This Sunday’s Gospel celebrates the Feast of St Peter who did great work for the church. Emma’s blog
Hello everyone,
We have been so busy at nursery this week.
We went to visit the tadpoles in their new pond during forest school. They looked so happy in their new home…but still no back legs!!!T.
A few days ago whilst walking my dog along the estuary I found some crab shells. How fortuitous as it fits perfectly with our ‘Under the Sea’ learning thread! W got our our extra strong magnifying glasses and began investigating. The children couldn't believe their eyes, they saw their eyes, legs and claws and we even held them too!
We have some news about our resident caterpillars. They have turned, they are now super pupas in their cocoon! It's a waiting game now for them to metamorphosise in to butterflies, we can't wait!
The children just love PE with Mr. Nay and Mr. Murray. This week we have been playing ball games in teams. Team A would throw a ball, then the Team B would run and field the ball, a bit like rounders. We then swapped roles. The children had so much fun.
Have a wonderful weekend, and if you are going to Club Day in Lytham, have a great time.
Emma
Michelle’s blog
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog.
We have had a wonderful week as we have seen our caterpillars make their cocoons and become super pupas. We are a little worried as some of them are not hanging from the lid but are lying on the floor of their house. We will keep you updated. We watched The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and then we did caterpillar yoga, stretching and wiggling like caterpillars and flapping our wings like butterflies. Click here to listen to the story.
We've also enjoyed role play and dressing up this week…using our imaginations. Role play is so good for children as it gives them the freedom to express themselves and make sense of the world and their experiences. Why not have a look at home, and have a dress up day.
Have a lovely weekend
Michelle
Finally, it is with great sadness that I have to tell you that our wonderful Michelle will be leaving us this summer. She has decided to retire and have a well earned rest. I am sure you will agree that she deserves it! Just like like the nursery team I am sure you will like to wish Michelle a happy and healthy retirement and the opportunity to fulfil her wish list of adventures. Thank you Michelle form the bottom of our hearts.
Leavers Party
This years Leavers Party will be on Wednesday 16th July, 9.30-11.30 am. We are hoping for sunny weather so send the children in shorts and t-shirts in readiness for some fun games and dancing!!
Keep a look out in you child’s blue bag for their invitation.
Have a lovely weekend, I will keep a look out for you at Club Day!
Stay safe and God Bless.

Dancing, singing and laughing has most definitely been the theme for the week this week in Year 6! You are in for such a treat with their end of year play. When I watch them on stage now, I can’t believe some of them are the same children that started the play 3 weeks ago. Their confidence has grown so much and are now so much more comfortable on stage that they are bringing their characters fully to life! This week we have got over half way through the play! Please make sure Year 6 spend some time this weekend going back over all of their lines, thank you. This week we have been trying to sort costumes. We always try to source the outfits as much as we can ourselves, with little effort or cost from yourselves. If you have not heard about costumes as yet, then you will on Monday- sorry for the delay! This is a long process, so bear with us.
Year 6 have been so busy in class too, during play rehearsals, they have continued to work hard on their class novel ‘Wonder’, looking deeper in to the text by answering some tricky comprehension questions. We have also been researching the history of Blackpool, finding out fun facts abotu Blackpool Tower!
Year 6 have excelled in their jobs around the school this week and the teachers have been praising them on their support within the classroom, in fact I think they wished they were in there permanently. They have sat with the children in their class at lunchtimes to help keep the noise levels down, they have been supporting them in their work, reading with children and even building towers in Reception!
Bikeability has been enjoyed by all over the last two weeks, they even had a trip to Fairhaven Lake on Monday …
St Bede’s Transition
Next Thursday 3rd July children are invited to a transition day at St Bede’s. They are being picked up at 9:10am by members of staff from St Bede’s and will be dropped off back at school just before pick up time. Children all need to bring £2.80 (in the correct change) for their school dinner and their water bottle- please don’t forget. Please see the letter below for more details:

What has been your favourite memories at Our Lady’s?
Well done to Pippa
Pippa, you are so pro-active and hands on, always ready to help when needed and see what needs doing! We absolutely love the way you always have a positive outlook on any situation and make it your mission to praise people when you see others deserve this. What emotional intelligence you have! You are such a caring learning partner, thank you for always having patience and showing love to your classmates- you make our class a happy place to be! Your determination and resilience shines through, and how you faced your fears last Friday shows just how courageous you are- what an inspiration!
This week we have the following children helping to take the younger children to their class:

Love and Compassionate Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that stop and notice how others are experiencing their lives, and how they feel, and why they say and believe what they do. Ultimately, it is what makes us kind and, at a deeper level, opens up the possibility of being loving through our just and merciful actions and forgiving words. This week we thank Sophia for always being compassionate and loving with others.

We’ve been adding two digit numbers. We’ve discovered that we have to look very carefully at the numbers and decide if they need bridging or not. I ask the question “what do you notice?” in maths more than I ever ask for the answer. When we notice - we can make decisions about how to solve in efficient ways. Please watch the video!

What a week it has been! I think we can agree that it has surely been the hottest week of the school year. What better activity to do in the blistering heat? Make the children do lots and lots of running! Luckily, our sports day this year fell on a glorious sunny day. The children absolutely ran their socks off and showed such a healthy competitive spirit. It was Harcourt who dominated the Year 5/6 sports day and it was these points which led them to becoming overall Our Lady’s Sports Day Champions!
If that wasn’t enough, the following morning saw us carry out some more running but in a slightly different environment. Pajamas, teddies and parents were all present for our annual Gym Jam Jog festival. The overall funds raised is available on Mrs Gregan’s blog and it is an amazing amount.

Learner of the Week- This week our award goes to Hudson for being an enthusiastic and cooperative learner. You really stood out to me during our sports day this week. You were so enthusiastic about the whole afternoon and carried such a positive energy into every task, which really rubbed off on your team. Your teamwork skills were really on show too! Always cheering on your fellow teammates and you did not let your head drop when results didn’t go your way.
Virtue Star of the Week- Our virtues for this half term are love and compassion and our winner this week goes to Amelia. Outside play is always a delight but especially when we have weather like this. I love the way you play with your friends and the creative nature of your games.
