If you would like to be considered in our class votes then you need to prepare a short speech, presentation or poster that outlines why your class should vote for you and why you would be good at the job. We are voting next Friday, so make sure you prepare and bring in everything you need before this day.

This week....

Wow, what a fabulous start to the year!

This week we have been exploring primary colours (red, blue and yellow). We have had great fun sorting objects and choosing different sized red, yellow and blue pom poms then trying to them up using tweezers or pegs. This was really tricky but good practice in readiness for writing and drawing (we had to use duck fingers to hold the peg and tweezers).

In the afternoons we mixed red and blue paint with shaving foam and made purple! Then we mixed yellow and blue and made green! Next, yellow and red…what colour do you think we made!!

You may have noticed we get very messy at nursery! Next week we will be exploring secondary colours (green orange purple).

The children have so been keen to grow their brains. We have started to learn our letters sounds.

In school we use Read Write Inc. phonic scheme to help us.

How Read Write Inc. phonics works- a parent/ carers guide. Click here.

Click here to find out more. There is lots of useful information so that you can work alongside nursery as we introduce a new sound. This week we have started with ‘m’. Click here to help your child say the sounds correctly. See if you can find out how we say ‘m’ . Please don’t be tempted to race ahead and learn all the speed sounds (at nursery we only do set one). It is important that we fully grasp each sound and how to write it before we move on. Watch this space!

This week we have focused on two stories. Little Rabbit Foo Foo and the Colour Monster. We have talked lots about how we feel using colour! Luckily everyone sad they were happy and full of love! Phew!

Click here for the Colour Monster

In nursery we LOVE stories and books, the book area is a very popular part of nursery both inside and outside. Why it is important to read to your child! Click here.

As you can see we have had a gentle start to nursery!!!! Next week we have even more planned, so have a good rest this weekend everyone!

Before I finish just a few goo housekeeping points to make life a bit easier for the nursey ladies.

  • Can all fruit and veg be put in reusable pots- please do not put the pots in a plastic bag. Similar fruit does not need to be put in a bag. As a school we have gone plastic free. we are urging parents to help us by not sending food in one use plastic/packets. See Mrs. Gregans blog on the main page for lots more information.

  • Can you make sure your child has a named Our Lady blue book bag and not a back pack. They are very difficult to store and can cause a tripping hazard. Also, bags should only have one key ring on if necessary.

  • Your child should have one piece of fruit or veg for each session they attend. One piece for half day, two pieces for a full day.

  • Can to make sure anything that comes in to nursery is clearly labelled.

  • As the children are physically active all day and engage in PE session three times a week could you please ensure that they are not wearing any jewellery, including earrings.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Finally, thank you all for preparing your children so well in readiness for starting nursery. It is such a huge step in their learning journey.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

    God bless

    Barbara

Year 6 Weekly Blog 06.09.24 'Be brave, take risks and allow the unexpected'

Welcome to Year 6!

What a week we have had! There has been such a warm and friendly buzz of excitement, anticipation and enthusiasm over the last two days in Year 6. We could not be happier with how the children have returned to school for their final year at Our Lady’s. We have spent a lot of time over the past two days talking about leadership and our vision for the year ahead. We have shared a beautiful story with the children called The Invisible. A tender story about how we all belong in the world. Please click on the button below to read the story

Autumn 1 Extra-Curricular Timetable

With a new school year comes a new timetable for extra curricular opportunities. If you click on the button below, it will take you to the timetable. Please do check the starting dates for the clubs as some of them differ. For the children in Year 5 and Year 6 who will be representing the school team, fixtures will follow. There is a cluster meeting next week where the format will be decided but we are probably going to be moving towards a mini-tournament approach, rather than weekly fixtures. This will allow more children to take part and represent the school team. Once this has been decided, I will let you know dates.

Year 6 Homework Week 1

Homework usually should be completed and brought back to school for the following Wednesday

English - Reading - Read, read, read, read every single day! We now have completed our Star Reading quiz and have new ZPD’s for the term, we have chosen our books- who will be the first to get 100% of their target?

Spellings

Spellings will be practised throughout the week, both at school and at home. These will be a combination of past spellings/ phonics, retreival of vital spelling rules and new spelling patterns. Sometimes there may even be a quiz for you to complete on Purple Mash. We will then have a quiz in class on a Thursday once you have spent a good amount of time practising these spellings throughout the week. These spellings are in your homework books.

Decorate your homework book

Please back your homework book and clearly label with your name- it would be lovely to add some detail that showed me who you are and what you like, whilst also protecting it as it comes back and forth to school.
