Well it has certainly been a week life no other at Our Lady’s! temperatures sky high with suncream and cool downs being the main theme for the week. The children have been taking some end of year quizzes across English and Maths this week, in which they have been applying their retrieval skills across various types of questions.

Wednesday was certaintly a highlight of the week with our annual ‘Gym Jam Jog’, in which the children would have been delighted to spend the rest of the day in cooling loungewear. To end our heatwave, we were all treated to a visit from the Mr Whippy van for a refreshing and well needed ice cream.

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are curious and active. The star this week goes to Lucia. Working in these weather conditions is certainly no easy task and yet you have powered on this week, without a fuss, and continued to throw yourself into all of our activities this week. You have done this too with such a positive mindset and openess to include everyone else.

Learner of the Week: Our certificate winner this week goes to Scarlett for being a creative and enthusiastic learner. Poetry can be difficult, especially because the style of writing is so different from what we usually do throughout the year. However, you have smashed our Highywayman topic this half term Scarlett, throwing all of your enthusiasm and creative writing skills into your stanzas in which you have produced a beautiful final display for this.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other'.

“Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:31

This week’s gospel, Matthew 10:31, reminds us that we are very special to God, saying, “Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” This means that even the smallest things matter to God, and so do we—each one of us is loved, known, and precious. Just like our school’s mission teaches us that everyone is important and valued, this verse helps us remember to treat ourselves and others with kindness and respect, knowing we all belong and matter. If every single one of us is so precious, how can we make sure we show that in the way we care for others each day?

What what a hot week in school!! Despite the heat, and trying to keep as cool as possible, dancing, singing and laughing has most definitely been the theme for the week this week in Year 6! You are in for such a treat with their end of year play. When we watch them on stage now, we can’t believe some of them are the same children that started the play 3 weeks ago. Their confidence has grown so much and are now so much more comfortable on stage that they are bringing their characters fully to life! Please make sure Year 6 spend some time this weekend going back over all of their lines, thank you. Next week we will be sorting costumes. We always try to source the outfits as much as we can ourselves, with little effort or cost from yourselves. If you have not heard about costumes as yet, then you will next week- sorry for the delay! This is a long process, so bear with us.

Tickets will go on sale next week for the play. You will recieve a letter on Monday with a form for you to request which performances you would like to attend and how many tickets you need- so keep a look out in bags on Monday!

Year 6 have been so busy in class too, during play rehearsals, they have continued to work on their World Cup project, looking closely at specific countries, their geography and even creating a travel brochure!

Year 6 have excelled in their jobs around the school this week and the teachers have been praising them on their support within the classroom, in fact I think they wished they were in there permanently. They have sat with the children in their class at lunchtimes to help keep the noise levels down, they have been supporting them in their work, reading with children and even building towers in Reception!

On Wednesday we had our annual Gym-Jam Jog Extravaganza and wow what a turn out! It was wonderful to see so many people coming together, having fun and jogging (of course) to help us raise money to go towards our wonderful school- thank you so much for all of your donations! Despite the heat, we had so many parents joining in too, which made it all the more special! Thank you to all of those that joined us …

On Monday, Group 1 will be having their Food Tech lesson, “ Forest School Come Dine with Me”.Each child knows which ingredients they are brining in to make a three course meal on the campfire. Children can come in forest school clothes ( trousers only, no shorts) and change into their unform afterwards.

St Bede’s Transition

Next Thursday 2nd July children are invited to a transition day at St Bede’s. They are being picked up at 9:10am by members of staff from St Bede’s and will be dropped off back at school just before pick up time. Children all need to bring £3.00 (in the correct change) for their school dinner and their water bottle- please don’t forget. Please see the letter below for more details:

Delving deeper through talk …

What are you most looking forward to at high school?

What has been your favourite memories at Our Lady’s?

Well done!

Lily, you are so enthusiastic, pro-active and hands on, always ready to help when needed and see what needs doing and on task with your work in class! We absolutely love the way you always have a positive outlook on any situation and make it your mission to praise people when you see others deserve this! You are such a caring learning partner and are such a great help in Reception, thank you for always having patience and showing love to others- you make our class and Reception a happy place to be!

Curious and Active Stars

This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children who are active by taking part wholeheartedly, helping others, and using their talents to make a positive difference, just as Jesus showed love through his actions. We will also be looking for the children who are curious by asking questions, exploring new ideas, and seeking to understand the world around them, following Jesus who taught through wonder, stories, and discovery. These children live out these virtues with Jesus at the centre, letting his example inspire both their curiosity and their actions each day. This week we thank Teddy for always being active and curious.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 26.6.26 - "Faith and love are everything, and nothing is more precious than these." Saint Ignatius of Antioch

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus asks His friends who they think He is. Peter answers bravely, saying that Jesus is the Son of God. We learn that it is important to believe in Jesus and be brave enough to say it. It also reminds us that God helps us to have faith, and we can all do our part to be kind, strong, and help others as part of God’s family.

Going deeper in conversation

This week we have been thinking all about the communities we live in. We have discovered that we are a part of different communities. We have also thought about how we can help our communities.

Can you think of ways you can help in your home community? Maybe by keeping your room tidy or helping in the kitchen…

Magic moments

With the sun shining this week Mrs Gregan organised the best surprise for the children on Friday… the ICE CREAM VAN CAME! The children were so excited when it pulled up and enjoyed their ice cream’s under the trees shade! What a lovely memory!

We hope you have a fantastic weekend! Here are a few extra photographs from fan making to keep us cool, to consolidating our shape knowledge and even some fine motor flag making …

c.bassett@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk

This week...

Wow what a scorcher!! Summer has arrived with gusto! We have managed to find shade on the top garden underneath the trees, so that is where we have spent our outside time, albeit for a shorter length of time than usual.

The children have loved being sprayed with water at regular intervals and splashing around in the water play…it really didn’t matter how wet we got!

Worship

This week we have continued our final branch, ‘Dialogue and encounter’. Our key words this week were PICTURE, DIFFERENT and WORLD.

Jesus came for everyone, all around the world. We looked at a picture of our wonderful world and some images of Jesus from different places. Some children told us about their pictures:

“Hello, my name is Gabriel. I live in Nigeria. This painting of Mary and Jesus shows them with dark skin like mine and wearing special African clothes. Our pictures often have lots of bright colours and patterns”.

“Hi! I’m Maya from India. In my country, we sometimes show Jesus with brown skin and wearing clothes like a sari or a kurta. Our pictures are often full of flowers and pretty patterns to remind us how special and kind Jesus is”.

We had some discussion cards to help us think about how we are all different and special. We put them in the middle and turned them over to see what they said:

Describe what you look like.

What is your favourite colour?  Why do you like it so much?

If you could have any pet, what would you choose?

What makes you a good friend?

What job would you like to do?

Where do you live?

Next week we will hear from two children from Mexico and Australia.

We ended by singing this song to the tune of ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ – why not sing it at home:

Jesus came for me and you,
And for all the people too.
In the cities, by the trees,
Over mountains, over seas.
Jesus loves us, everyone,
We are part of God's big plan!

Our child led worship on Thursday focused on St Paul. We watched this video: click here We noticed that Paul used to have a different name. He wasn’t very nice to Jesus’ friends but then after a special event he changed his name to Paul and dedicated his life to Jesus.

Learning Landscape

Owing to the extreme heat this week we have been finding shade everywhere we could or remaining inside. Needless to say our learning has been altered to meet the weather conditions!

We have:

kept ourselves hydrated

sprayed eachother with water bottles and pipettes

made ten frames in the shade and cool of forest school

joined in the Gym Jam Jog and then came into nursery for breakfast!

ate ice pops and drank litres of ice cold water

ate strawberries!!!

completed number stories using Numicon

been on a gingerbread man hunt

remained calm and cool!!!

Calling all Superheroes! We will be having our end of year party on Wednesday 15th July 9.30 am -11.00 am. All the children are welcome to join us. Come dressed as a super hero. Please bear in mind the whether when choosing and outfit. Keep a lookout for your invitation in your childs book bag.

Year 6 Weekly Blog 'Faith is trusting in God even when you don't understand his plan'

Another fantastic week was had in Year 6! The children are working so hard both in the hall, in the classroom and around the school. We couldn’t be prouder of their independence and maturity. The play is coming together, children have come much more prepared for each scene, as they have clearly been practicing their words and songs! We can’t wait for you to see it.

Our Sports Day was such a lovely day and a real celebration of effort, enjoyment, and teamwork. It was great to see every child getting stuck in, trying their best, and encouraging each other along the way. There were lots of smiles, cheers, and proud moments as the children worked together in their house teams and supported one another. It really showed that taking part, working as a team, and having a go are what matter most. It was also extra special that it took place on the same day as England’s first World Cup match—just like the players, our children showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and skill throughout the day!

Year 5 Weekly Blog 19.06.26- ' Let's celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and the joy of playing together'

What an exhilerating week it has been! I think it is fair to say that we have all earned a well deserved break over the weekend. Our week started with the children using their delicate hand skills in DT for sewing. The following day consisted of our preparations for the end of year play, in which we have began to rehearse our second song that Year 5 are partaking in the play. Wednesday was our most anticipated day, as we all prayed for the weather to hold, for the Year 5/6 sports day! The sun was shining and the children were certainly running, along with jumping, passing, balancing and throwing. Congratulations to Harcourt for winning the upper KS2 sports day, giving their house a lead in the overall scores for the school cup. I simply could not have asked the children to run anymore when it came to our PE lesson the following day, which gave us a perfect opportunity to test our new golf equipment out- in preparations for the girls golf competition coming up. Unfortunately, unlike sports day, the weather did not hold up and our play around the golf course was halted by the heavy rain.

Conversation starters

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are curious and active. The star this week goes to Albert. Summer is certainly a time for sports and you have been super active this week. You had to run lots of double laps for your house on sports day and you did this with such a great attitude (even though you were very tired!). You also showed off your skills in our golf lessons during PE this week too!

Learner of the Week: Our certificate winner this week goes to Mia-Grace for being a focused and determined learner. I could not have faulted your work ethic and determination across this whole year Mia-Grace. Even when it is a subject you don’t necessary love (like maths) you still give it 100% and you are always trying to improve yourself through your learning- this has been amazing to see.

Year 1 weekly blog 19.6.26: "When we feel good we do good!" - My Happy Mind

In this weeks Gospel we have listened to Jesus give COURAGE to his disciples to continue the church’s mission to spread for Good News and to heal people. We have thought carefully about the times we need courage and how we can ask Jesus for his help in these moments. In RE we have been learning about items our Parish church and all of the very special things inside each Catholic church. I wonder if you can remember what a crucifix, lectern or tabernacle are?

Going deeper in conversation

This week we in My Happy mind we have been engaging with our brains and how we can make ourselves feel good. We have discussed what we can do that makes us feel happy and how we can make sure our body feel’s happy by taking care of it. We then learned the phrase, “We when feel good we do good”, and we all agreed that we want to do good! We discovered that setting ourselves goals can make us feel happy.

Can you share your goal with your family at home?

Magic moments

In Thursday something very exciting happened, we have a class pet! After lots of predicting what it could be, we were shocked to find out that it was actually a TRAIN! We have been super busy learning all about different types of trains and how fast they can go. After some time researching we discovered that a mini steam train is the slowest train and the high speed train was the fastest going as quick as 217mph!

We have also been busy pracitising for the different events in this years sports day….

Certificates

A huge well done to Noah who has been awarded our Star award this week. Noah you have been shown great curiosity during our class discussions, asking great questions and thinking of ways we can help God’s world!

Our learning certificate this week goes to Hugo for being a determined and brave learner. You are trying your best in your learning and we are all so proud of you! You are managing your distractions and are blowing us away with your reading and writing skills! Well done Hugo, we are so proud of you!

Reminders

Sports day: The new date for our Sports day this year is Monday 6th July at 1.30pm. We hope you are able to join us!

Finally, we have been getting in the spirit of the World Cup and have finished making every flag for each country that is taking part. The children worked with a partner, sharing their ideas and skills to create a flag between them. They all used their cooperative skills wonderfully!

We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
