READING

Please continue having the children read their RWInc (phonics) books at home daily!

MATHS

This week, the children have 1 maths sheets stuck in their homework book. Picture below:

English:

In English, we are still focusing on simple sentences. The children should have a sheet of jumbled sentences stuck in their homework book to rewrite using the correct capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.

SPELLING:

Handwriting

Your child should have either letter formation or days of the week stuck in their book for them to practice their handwriting.

Note- Please don’t worry if your child’s book does not have these exact documents, I have adapted some homework tasks to children’s specific targets in their learning!

Weekly Homework 22.09.26

Homework Deadline 28.09.26

Thank you all so much for supporting your children with their homework this week! The spellings are coming along fabulously and many have told me how much they enjoyed practicing their times tables on TT Rockstars!

Handwriting and Spellings…

In the homework books this week, you will find a spelling sheet stuck inside. The children have been put into groups for spellings, which has helped us to know which spellings they need the most support with. These spellings are just some of our Year 1/Year 2 and Year 3/Year 4 statutory spelling words that we must learn this year. Whilst this sheet is great for learning spellings, it is also a wonderful opportunity to remind your children about neat handwriting. We are really focusing on our handwriting in class at the moment.

Just a little reminder that we can only stick the spelling sheets into books that are returned on time. Please can we ask that homework books are brought back to school on Monday 28th September. Thank you!

Maths…

As we move into our next unit in Maths, our focus will be on securing our place value knowledge to 100. We want to make sure the children feel confident recognising, reading, ordering and understanding numbers, as well as knowing the value of each digit.

To help prepare the children for this next unit of work, this week’s Maths homework will focus on revisiting and practising place value skills. We’ll be encouraging the children to practise these skills in a fun and interactive way, helping them to build confidence without it feeling like a chore! Please find below some online games that they can play:

And, of course, times tables are always a must! In particular, please keep practicing the 2s, 5s and 10s. TT Rockstars is a fantastic way to practice! Regular, short bursts of practice are a great way to help these facts become quick and fluent.

Reading…

Please find time to read with your child as much as possible. It would be wonderful if they could read aloud to you and equally lovely if you could read stories to them too. Bedtime can be a wonderful opportunity to make reading part of your daily routine and enjoy some special time together.

Please could I also ask that your child brings their reading book into school each day.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to pop me an email:

e.brookes@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Well done to those that completed ANTON this week. Few people struggled to get on, I believe if you have used the same app as last year, or saved your password this will not work. You need to use the QR code in homework books, to re-sign in with your new account.

Will give you another week to have a go at the following:

Reception Weekly Blog 18.9.26 - "God is generous, He shows us all His love and encourages us to be generous." - Pope Francis

This week we have been thinking about FOREGIVENESS and understanding what this word means. During prayer and liturgy we listened to the time when Peter asked Jesus how many times should we forgive a person, Jesus replied, “Not seven I tell you, but twenty-seven.” We discussed how Jesus will always forgive someone and wants us to do the same. In RE we have been learning all about CREATION and in particular how God made us to be like Him. We thought carefully about how we can be like God and decided that God wants us to look after His world and everything that He has made. The children are really trying to do this by taking care of their classroom, collecting their natural snack waste for the compost, and looking after each other!

CONVERSATION STARTER

We have began our learning of Kidsafe and in this weeks lesson we have been learning all about TRUST and who our trusted adults are. We played a game of trust. We helped a friend move safely around the classroom, demonstrating how having trust means knowing that person will look after you and be safe. Over the weekend discuss who you trust and why… also begin to share what makes you feel happy and what does not.

MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING

This week our topic has been, “All about me”. The children have been practising their partner talk: turning our whole body to face our partner, and to give our partners our looking eyes. We have had many conversations with our partners but one of my favourites was discussing our three favourite things. The children loved sharing what they love and what is important to them and they all created beautiful images of their favourite things with Mrs Summersall!

LET’S CELEBRATE

Our STAR this week has gone to a little boy who loves to be helpful and is always ready to offer his help. During carpet kingdom he is always listening so intently and sharing his wonderful smile. A huge well done LOUIS CR. you are our Star this week!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Wednesday 23rd September - School photographs

Sunday 27th September - Family mass 9:30am

Monday 28th September - Flu Vaccinations

Have a wonderful weekend - God bless

Year Three Weekly Blog 18.09.26

What a Fabulous Week…

We are two weeks in and what a fabulous two weeks they have been! I honestly could not be prouder of each and every child in our class. They have worked incredibly hard all week and have made such a positive start to Year Three. It is so wonderful to see how independent and confident they are becoming as the days have gone by.

In RE this week, we have been learning all about Imago Dei, which means “Image of God.” The children have been exploring the belief that we are all made in the image of God and we have discussed what this means. As a class, we have thought carefully about how we can reflect God’s love through our own behaviour and ways we can show kindness, patience, compassion and forgiveness to the people around us. The children have shared some incredibly thoughtful ideas about how our words and actions can make a difference to others.

I would like to say a very special thank you to this weeks prayer leaders, Dee Dee, April and Antonio, who have all had the opportunity to lead us in worship this week. They did such a wonderful job and we all loved sharing this special time together to reflect, pray and think about how we can live out our faith through our everyday actions.

Magical Moments of Learning…

This week in History, we went on a VERY exciting journey, transporting ourselves all the way back to the Stone Age! The children were introduced to what life may have been like during the Stone Age and we began to explore how different everyday life was then, compared to our lives today. We thought about where people lived, what they ate and most importantly, how they survived. But this really wasn’t an ordinary History lesson…the children were given a mission! They had to imagine they were Stone Age Hunter-Gatherer’s and their challenge was to think carefully about what they needed in order to survive! The classroom was soon filled with Stone Age experts and we had so much fun immersing ourselves in this role!

Alongside this, we have continued to explore the wonderful world of Paddington Bear, whilst also looking carefully at the different sentence types that we are going to begin to use in our writing. The children have become so good at spotting subjects and verbs in a sentence and we have started to learn about conjunctions and how to use them to enhance our writing skills.

In addition to this, we have been working our little socks off in Maths this week! We have been revisiting how to bridge numbers over ten and looking at strategies for adding and subtracting small numbers. This has helped us to understand why our strategies work, rather than simply finding an answer.

Going Deeper in Conversation…

How can we keep ourselves and others safe?

This week, the children have taken part in Session Two of KidSafe, led by Mrs Carter. The focus of the session was bullying and helping the children understand what bullying is, how it can make others feel and most importantly, what they can do if they experience or see it happening.

The children have had some thoughtful discussions and explored the importance of speaking to a trusted adult, looking after one another and making sure everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

Please find attached a letter below that outlines what we have discussed.

Let’s Celebrate…

This week, our Virtue Star is Rebecca!

Rebecca has shown so much love and enthusiasm towards her learning this week. We are extremely proud of how hard she has worked and how much determination she has shown. Alongside this, Rebecca is always a compassionate and loving friend to others. She truly has such a kind and caring heart. Rebecca, thank you so much for being our superstar this week and for always wanting to grow and better yourself. We are very proud of you!

Key Messages and Reminders…

Unfortunately, I am still unable to post any photographs of what we have been up to as we are still waiting for a couple of forms to be returned. Please can we ask that these are completed as soon as possible! We’d love to show you what our learning looks like in Year Three!

  • FOREST SCHOOL is now up and running! Our sessions are on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Letters have already been sent home with the children who will be taking part, so please ensure that your child comes to school with the correct clothing and footwear for Forest School.

  • SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS will be taking place on Wednesday 23rd September for all children in school. These will be individual photos. As Wednesday is our usual PE day, children are welcome to come to school in their full school uniform for their photographs and bring their PE kit in a named bag to change into afterwards. This is completely optional and up to you to decide what uniform you would like your child to be photographed in.

  • HOMEWORK will be sent out next week on Monday 21st September. Please have a little look at the Year 3 Homework Blog for some guidance and information about this next week.

  • WOODMATTERS SCHOOL TRIP is on Wednesday 30th September! This is now live on ParentPay and is £32.00 per child. Please note, the deadline for this is Friday 18th September (today). Please see below for more details about our upcoming trip!

Woodmatters School Trip

As mentioned above, we have planned to go on a very exciting day out to Woodmatters in Windermere, where the children will be immersed in all things Stone Age!

We will be leaving school at 08:15am in the morning to ensure we arrive on time, so please make sure your children arrive at school for 08:00am on this day. We will meet you at the school gate. We will be out of school all day, but we will be back for home time (15:25pm).

Children must come to school in their PE kit, wearing long sleeves and trousers - no shorts please. Hats, scarfs and gloves are optional, but the children are more than welcome to bring these items with us. We are expecting the weather to be cold and possibly wet.

If your child is travel sick, please ensure they take any medication they need before school. If they require an addition tablet or medicine during the day, you will need to fill in a form giving me permission to give your child medication you have provided. You can give me the medication on the morning of the trip, it must be in a named bag. The forms to be completed for this will be available at the school office.

For this trip, your children will need:

  • A packed lunch and drink (please refrain from packing any sweets, chocolate and fizzy drinks - also, please do not pack anything that may contain nuts)

  • A pair of wellies, old trainers or walking boots (anything you don’t mind possibly getting dirty)

  • A spare jumper and a pair of spare socks

  • Named waterproof coat

  • A reusable carrier bag (to transport the things we make back home)

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to pop me an email:

e.brookes@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk

Thank you once again for all of your continued support. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Miss Brookes and Mrs Austin

This week...

A brilliant week at nursery. We are all now getting to know the rhythms and routines of the nursery day. As always we have been extremely busy and I can tell by Friday afternoon everyone is a little bit sleepy!

Prayer and Liturgy

This week we have continued our Creation and Covenant topic with ‘God made me’. Our key words were LOVE, SPECIAL and FAMILY.

We began with a lovely song all about all the things that God made: Click here to listen. We then spoke about something that God made that is very special – us! We passed a mirror around the circle and looked at God’s wonderful creation – we are all different and God loves us all. Our self – portraits are now up on display in the classroom and we love looking at them.

Our child – led worship on Thursday was all about kindness. Our prayer leaders led our session with a sign of the cross and by turning on the candle so we knew that Jesus was with us. We read a story all about kindness and how we can ‘fill each others bucket’. Here is a video all about our bucket: Click here to watch. We then passed a love heart around the circle and when it was our turn to speak we shared with our friends ‘how’ we were going to be kind to each other that day and always. We had lots of lovely answers including, playing, giving hugs, sharing toys and helping friends that may be feeling sad.

Learning Landscape

This week our learning landscape again has been full of colour, number and sounds. We have:

  • been exploring green and purple by sorting and finding the colours around nursery and school.

  • learnt another sound! We are now trying to remember ‘a’ and ‘m’. We played the sound hunt game and we are getting good at spotting ‘a’ and ‘m’.

  • met another number ‘1’

  • been loving outdoor PE with Mr. Nay!

  • enjoyed indoor PE. We have been dancing and exercising our bodies

School Photographs

School photographs are being taken next Wednesday (23rd). As promised, if it is not your child’s day to come to nursery don’t worry, bring them at 9.30 am and they too can have their photograph taken.

Home Learning Challenges

Here are just a few little challenges that you may want to do to support your child at home. We are still trying to remebr the names of some colours, perhaps you could go on a colour hunt at home or whilst you are out and about at the weekend. Colour blocks is a good way of engaging with your child- see how many objects they can remember of each colour- we had great fun trying to use our brains to recall everything we had seen. Good luck! Click here.

Meet Zero! Click here. Remember Zero is the number for nothing and is one less that one!

Meet and number one at home! Click here

Remember Zero is the number for nothing and is one less that one!

Counting to ‘one’ when there is one thing to be counted. Try finding ‘one’ familiar object to be counted such as one finger, one nose, one head etc

and lastly…read read read to your child! Here are just a couple of tips you may find useful. Why read to your child? Click here and ‘10 things to think about when you read to your child’. Click here.

Remember to have fun!!!

We are looking forward to another great week next week.

Stay safe and God bless

Year 1 Weekly Blog 18.09.26

We have had another busy week in Year 1, with the children continuing to settle into our routines while getting stuck into lots of new learning. There has been plenty of exploring, practising and, of course, lots of questions along the way!

RE

This week we have continued our unit on ‘Creation & Covenant’. We looked more deeply into the Creation story, recognising it as an ancient, prayerful, and poetic reflection on God's world.

We thought about how the story of Creation reminds us of how much God loves us through all that He has made. We took our 'binoculars' outside to become Creation explorers, spotting and talking about things around us that God created.

We finished our lesson with bubble prayers, saying something we were thankful to God for as we blew our bubbles.

Magic moments

English

We have been continuing with our All About Me topic and have started creating our own All About Me pages. The children have been putting all the skills we have been practising into action, remembering their capital letters, full stops and finger spaces to help them form a perfect sentence.

Maths

In Maths, we have been using our subitising skills and continuing our journey of counting objects. We have been practising looking carefully at groups of objects and recognising how many there are without always needing to count each one.

Wider learning

With Mrs Hunter, the children have been learning about the seasons in Science and diving into their music lessons. They have also been getting creative with Mrs Mather during Art.

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

Reflecting on our RE lessons so far, you might want to have a lovely conversation with your child about what they have learned so far about the Creation story! This might be using questions such as: ‘Can you remember what God created on each of the seven days? Which part of Creation are you most thankful for and why?’

HRSE

In HRSE, we have been learni

ng about keeping safe online. We talked about some of the positives and negatives of using the internet and began to think about how we can make safe choices when using different types of content.

We also looked at age ratings and what these mean when we are watching or accessing different types of content.

Please take a look at the letter attached to this week's blog for more information about what we have been learning and how you can continue these conversations at home.

LET’S CELEBRATE

Loving and Compassionate Star

Our Star Virtue this week was Harry Kennedy.

He has been a super role model to all of the children and has shown some brilliant qualities throughout the week. We are all so proud of him!

Well done, Harry Kennedy- keep it up! ⭐

Year 6 Homework Week 3 - to be handed in Wednesday 23rd September

Homework to be handed in on Wednesday 23rd September

Reading

Please read at home every night just 15-20 minutes - the children are already making their way up the target board. Well done keep it up!

Spellings

This week spelling focus are words with ‘cious’ and ‘tious’ endings.
Please practise these in your homework book and complete at least 2 sections of the spelling activity sheet.

Maths - Please complete the tasks on the sheet in your homework book and go on TT Rockstars to practise your spellings at least 3 times this week.

Year 5/6 Girls Golf Competition- Tuesday 22nd September

You will remember that we selected the following children to take part in the golf competition that unfortuantly had to be rescheduled and will take place next Tuesday 22nd September (1-3pm). We will take the children down to the event. Parents are welcome to come and watch but views may be restricted due to the surroundings of the golf course. If the children could be collected from the event, that would be great. Please let Mrs Gregan know if this is not possible.

The children taking part are Emilia, Bea and Alice, Louisa, Lucia and Scarlett

Children will have lunch in school as normal and will need a water bottle, PE kit, sunhat and suncream.

Illness in class

There has been a bit of illness in class that has presented itself in Scarlet Fever in a child. This is a bacterial infection that is treated with anti-biotics and may have a rash and a sore throat. Whilst there is no NHS guidance for schools, the guidance states that anti-biotics will be prescribed and children can return when well and 24 hours after the first lots of medication.

This is a common illness in schools and often goes quickly once treated. We will be vigilant in school and ensure we communicate anything we spot in your child quickly. Please do keep an eye on your children at home and let us know if they become unwell.

Castlerigg Day 2

Before bed last night, we shared the most beautiful night-time prayer together. We were led beautifully through a time of prayer and reflection by Sophia, one of the wonderful Castlerigg youth workers who has been with us throughout our stay. She encouraged the children to reflect on the words from Isaiah 43:1–3 and think about what this scripture means to them personally.

Thank you all so much for spending lots of time decorating the children’s homework books with them! They look absolutely fabulous and are so unique to each individual!

Handwriting and Spellings

In the homework books this week, you will find a spelling sheet stuck inside. The children have been put into groups for spellings, which has helped us to know which spellings they need the most support with. Maths

At the very front of your child’s homework book, you will find three different logins. This week for homework, I would like the children to use their TT Rockstars login and practice their times tables as much as possible! TT Rockstars can be accessed online on the internet or through an app on your phone. Please encourage your children to practice timetables that they find tricky or are not yet familiar with. I will attach a direct link to the TT Rockstars website below.

Reading

Please find the time to read with your child as much as possible. The children have completed their reading quizzes at school this week and will now be coming home with a book that is suitable for their reading age. Please can I ask that reading books are brought into school each day.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to pop me an email:
