Year 5 Weekly Blog 26.09.25- 'He is rich or poor according to who he is, not according to what he has'

Another wonderful week it has been in Year 5. In our RE lessons this week, we have looked at the true value of happiness and what aspects of life make are important to your happiness. It was lovely to see how the children voted on money being one of their lowest values to their happiness in favour of safety, love, family and friends. This led perfectly into our worship, where we focused on ‘wealth’ and read the story of The Rich Man and Lazarus, according to Luke 13:19-31. The children were really insightful and drew upon the hidden messages in the story such as using your privileges for the greater good and treating others how you would like to be treated.

Our English lessons have been full of excitement with us beginning our class novel- The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The children have been so drawn into our novel and have read with such expression, along with being super focused during our reading tasks when referring back to the text. The excitement of watching small clips from the film have really excited the children to draw so much description in their creative writing.

We have also began our first science topic of the year which is focusing on properties of materials. We looked at all of the different properties that materials can have and we applied this to everyday materials that we use in school.

Here are some of the key words from our lessons this week varying from key science vocabulary, tricky spellings in writing lessons and unfamilar words found in our class novel

Words of the Week

In our Kidsafe lesson this week, we have been learning about online safety and looking at the do’s and don’ts of what to do online.

Year 5 Kidsafe- Online Safety

Riddle of the Week

Test your parents on today’s riddle.

What type of bird would you use to carry really heavy weights?

Question of the Week- conversation starter

What makes you happy? I loved hearing your responses to this in RE. Ask the same question to your family members.

If you had to rank all of your responses from most important to least, what would it look like and why?

Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 26th September -“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

This week we have heard the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man saw the poor man, Lazarus, outside his house. Lazarus would hope for the scraps the rich man would leave, but the rich man did not notice him. We have spent time thinking about how we can help those less fortunate than ourselves, we recognised that many of us already help the poor and needy by donating to food banks, supporting and buying from charity shops and by taking part in charitable events. Our word of the week has been wealth.

Year 1 Weekly Blog 26.9.25 - "God has chosen the poor to be rich in faith" - James 2:5

This week we have heard the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man saw the poor man, Lazarus, outside his house. Lazarus would hope for the scraps the rich man would leave… This left us thinking… how do we help others? Would we watch others hurt, or would we try and help? Our children are full of compassion and have their sights set on helping others. Before our prayer and liturgies we have spent time saying prayers for people who need our prayers.

Going deeper in conversation

This week we have continued our Kidsafe lessons and have spoken about keeping our bodies safe. We all understand the 3 steps to keeping ourselves safe: Say “No” (we have enjoyed finding our voices by using our tummy muscles to say NO confidently!) Walk away, and finally tell a trusted adult. Please read the letter below to further support you child.

Question to ask: What should we do if we have Yukky feelings?

Kidsafe Letter - Lesson 4

Magic moments

There are so many moments from the week! On Tuesday we watched our Year 6 friends share a special message all about being ‘bucket fillers’… following this, we have been busy filling each others buckets! So many moments are standing out when writing this, but I must say that a group of children came to ask if they could tidy our home corner, as is was rather messy. They took such care in putting our home corner right. This was absolute stewardship from our young children and their efforts did not go unseen. They were celebrated by us all as we thanked them for their efforts. Seeing their happiness, knowing that they had done a very good deed, was such a special moment. Thank you Year 1, you are just beautiful!

Let’s celebrate

A huge well done to Roxie who has been so caring and considered towards our classroom. Roxie you have have looked after God’s world each and everyday and we have been so full of happiness watching you be so responsible!

This week we also celebrate Eddie who has been a reflective learner. Eddie, you have taken the time to look closely at your work and think about how you could improve it. Your huge proud smile certainly showed why being a reflective learner is such an important skill. Well done!

Have a lovely weekend!

This week...

A lovely sunny week at nursery. We have continued to explore parts of our bodies. We found out that we all have a skeleton inside our bodies which help us to move; run, catch, hop, dance…all sorts of physical activities! We also have 206 bones!!!

We also discussed how to stay healthy (click here) and how to look after our major organs in our body. Click here to find out more.

Lots of learning challenges have been happening all around nursery this week. We have been making bridges and balancing characters, placing balls in cups without dropping them, sequencing bears in order of size and colour and matching number shapes. I must say we all did extremely well. Take a look!

Worship

During prayer and liturgy this week we have been thanking God for our ‘Wonderful world’ and discussed how we should be looking after it. The children were sad to hear that some of our world is being destroyed instead of cared for. We are putting our thinking heads on to find ways in which we can help care for living things and our planet.

This week in Worship we have continued our Creation and Covenant topic with ‘God Loves Everyone’. Our key words were BAPTISM, CHURCH and CARE.

We began by listening to a story all about the things that God knows. We had to listen out for ‘God knows all about me’ – we were great at this! You can listen to it here

We spoke about how we are all different – but God loves us all! He made us and we are welcomed into his family through Baptism. When a person is baptised, it’s like getting a big welcome hug from God and joining His big family (the Church).

Baptism shows that you belong to Him and that He will always love and take care of you.

On Thursday we were very excited to join our friends in Reception for our Worship session. We lit the Worship candle and made the sign of the cross. We went to the Chapel and used the water to make a cross on our foreheads, just like the priest does when we are baptised. As we did this, we said ‘God loves me, God made me, I am part of God’s family’. We really enjoyed going to the Chapel, it was just like going to Church. Why don’t you see if you can remember how to make the cross on your head at home.

Meet Two

Counting to 2- counting involves knowing the order of the number names and assigning one number tag to one object or event.

‘Twoness’ of two -This episode provides examples of things that happen or come in ones and twos. There are lots of examples of twos, e.g. dancing together, riding a tandem, riding piggy back, singing a duet, setting a table for two. By also providing examples of one alongside, children can begin to distinguish what two is and what two is not. Click here to watch.

Take a look at your number mat to to practise writing 2, it’s a bit tricky- one curve down is what to do, then straight across to make a two'

and…we have learnt a new sound too, ‘t’

We made a ‘t’ shop, which can only sell things beginning with the sound ‘t’. I wonder how many things at home you have that begin with ‘t’!

If you fancy having a try writing ‘t’, take a look at your sound map for the rhyme- down the tower, across the tower’ Don’t forget duck fingers!!

We have reached the end of another busy week at nursery and I feel the children are exhausted- growing our brains is hard work!

I think we all deserve a good rest his weekend. Stay safe and enjoy the time you spend with your loved ones.

God bless

Barbara

Year 6 Weekly Blog 19.09.25 - "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."

This week’s liturgy and reflection has been focused around the word ‘stewardship’. On Wednesday, through the Wednesday Word, we first heard this week’s gospel, Luke 16:1-13, where we hear the parable of the dishonest steward who serves a lesson in using worldly resourceswith shrewdness but more importantly it teaches us an important lesson that one cannot serveboth God and money. We then reflected further in our liturgy on Thursday, looking at how our choice shoudl always be God over anything and serve him faithfully, by being stewards and not being wasteful. We reflected on how we can serve others in our roles around school and how we can put others before ourselves.

Thank you to the following children who led us in a beautiful liturgy earlier this week. The children led us through deep prayer and reflection…

Collaboration is key - especially in Year 6! This week we have collaborated and shared in every lesson - this has helped us to learn from each other. We have collaborated in our PE playing games of cricket, in our practicing of the assembly and most importantly getting to grips with our new roles around school . Alongside this, we are striving to be learned and wise, learning about the world around us and using what we have learnt to make changes where needed. Here is a snapshot over the last couple of weeks …

This whole notion of collaboration will stand us in good stead as we move forward as a class. Earlier this week they each received their positions of responsibility and what a great start to the year they have made! They came back to school on Tuesday ready and raring to go and they have worked together beautifully, what a team they make. It was so wonderful to see how they each celebrated one another! You will see this in full force on Tuesday 23rd September 9am for our class assembly. Please make sure they are practicing their lines and song for next week- thank you.

Message from Mrs Gregan

Whenever we start a new school year, we always have to migrate pupils and staff into their new class. This year, the technology that we use to do that has not been as successful for the teachers as it has been for the pupils. As a result, we have lost access to the Parental Consent forms that so many of you filled in prior to Induction Night. These have been deleted as groups have changed. Please can you spend another 5 minutes completing the consent form again this weekend. We are really confident with the information that we gathered before the forms disappeared, we just want to double check and make sure all information gathered is 100% correct. There was still some outstanding forms to be completed too. We are really sorry for the inconvenience and really appreciate you spending a little bit more time to ensure everything is as it should be.

Learning and Wise Stars

This half term we will be on the look-out for all the children that are learned in their actions, finding God in all things. Those who are wise, who use their learning for the common good. These children are the role models of the school, who drive their own learning and who have the wisdom to know when and how to apply one’s learning. This week we thank Finley for working for the common good of our classroom this week.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 19.09.25- 'Demorcacy is not guaranteed. Every generation should preserve it, defend it and fight for it'

It has certainly been a week to remember this week in Year 5. One of the most talked about trips in school took place as we all spent the day in London at the Houses of Parliament! Our day started super early with us arriving at school at 6:45am with everyone on time! We then got the coach down to Preston station and caught the train to London Euston.

It was then the mad rush of the day as we made our way down to the underground and hopped on the tube to Charring Cross. From here, we took a lovely walk up Whitehall, passing famous statues along the way and also 10 Downing Street. This took us up to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. We were then taken on our tour of the Houses of Parliament in which we got to visit both the Houses of Commons and Houses of Lords. Unfortunately, we were not allowed any photography in any of the houses. We then ended our visit with a school style workshop with activities based on what they had learnt on their tour.

After the Houses of Parliament, we had lunch in the Victoria Gardens outside of the Houses which had a lovely view right by the river Thames. We then talk a lovely walk up to ST James Park, where the children had some relaxing time to play. Our last bit of sightseeing was to Buckingham Palace where we saw that the King was in as the flag above was flying high, along with visits from lots of world news stations report the arrival of President Trump.

The children were full of energy and enthusiasm throughout the whole day (even on the coach journey back to school). I can not have asked for more in terms of the children’s focus, responsibility and respectfulness towards the people they interacted with. Here is to many more fantastic trips this year!

Riddle of the Week

What was your favourite part of our London trip?

What did you learn on the trip that you found interesting and has stuck in your memory?

Let’s Celebrate

Our certificate and star winners this week are…

Virtue Star of the Week: Our virtues for this half term are learned and wise. Our winner this week goes to Emilia. You have been an absolute delight to have in Year 5 Emilia. Your love and kindness towards everyone you interact with is just a joy to see. You apply this into your lessons when working with your learning partner and it allows you to get so much learning from these tasks. Excellent work!

Learning Certificate Winner of the Week: Our winner this week goes to Alice for being a focused and curious learner. You have blown me away Alice with how focused you are during lessons, you limit your distractions and you are always sat up correctly and tracking the teacher, an excellent ambassador for our STAR expectations. You carry this level of detail into your book presentation and creative writing which has been a joy to read and mark. Keep it up!

Sporting Fixtures for Autumn Term

Training is underway and after meeting with PE leads from across the cluster last week, the fixtures are ready to go. This year we are operating slightly differently and having mini tournaments instead of a running league. We have been put into a tri-fixture with other schools near us. We will be playing Heyhouses and St Thomas’s meaning two fixtures on one night, instead of consecutive weeks. This will then be repeated in the Spring term. All of the dates for the fixtures are below. Each tri-festival will be played at Heyhouses - please get the children there as soon as you can after school. The event will finish around 5:15pm.

Teams will be published on Monday so that arrangements can be made for the following weeks.

There is also additional football tournaments this term, which you can see below. We ask for parents support with transporting the children to these events. They are well ahead of time, so pop them in your diaries now.

You will also see that there will be a Year 4 Football Festival. We are really trying to broaden our offer in the cluster. This will be after half term. More details about training etc will be released nearer the time.

UPDATE - B TEAM FOOTBALL MATCH

We have just heard that Heyhouses are unable to produce two pitches for next Tuesday’s match therefore both teams will still play, just one after the other at Heyhouses school so do make your way there. Both matches will be played at Heyhouses. Please do stay to support each other if you can.

4pm v Heyhouses: Gus, Sean, Seth, Rory, Toby, Finley, Tommy and Louis

4.30pm v St Thomas: William, Isaac, Heath, Albert, Hugo H, George C, Myles, George L, Fletcher

Both teams are entered into the tournament on Thursday 21st November.
